Hey guys,

I’ve been off GW2 for a while and just getting back into the game.

Quite some time ago I’ve seen a build in this forums:

Its been centered around:

  • ‘Remorseless’ the Grandmaster Marksmanship trait that give you back Opening Strike everytime you kill a foe or gain stealth.
  • Sigil of Fire: 30% Chance on Critical: Trigger a Flame Blast for AoE Damage
    (Cooldown: 5 Seconds)
  • and Valyrie Armor, for the + Crit Damage

The idea behind this was using a longbow and just deal AoE damage through the 100% Crit chance you get from Opening Strike.

Did anyone test that and does it actually make sense to center a build around this?

(for reference, the build would look something like this:

Hi

I think the post you saw the build was this post https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/What-can-rangers-do/first#post2830878 by Chopps:

Remorseless build I run:

Valkryie gear with scholar runes, bud of pale tree type ascended trinkets (beryl exos should be fine, probably more power with those) along with longbow/greatsword (valkryie stats) and sigils of fire on both. Since ranger only gets like, a little more than 1/2 buff from might type sigils that other professions would (not counting pet) sigil of fire is awesome because it just depends on crit. Ranger is great with “on crit” type sigils.

Use stength of spirit (+5% vital to power) and two handed training. Use dragon’s breath buns for more power and crit dmg. Use tough/vital to power oils or stones for nourishment.

I run troll, signet of renewal, lightening reflexes, and protect me with two porcine (siamoth for more stealth).

When you take “remoresless” grandmaster, you get opening strikes on kill or stealth. Precise strike (25 in marks) will always proc a crit on opening strikes. This is how you crit a lot without much precision.

Elite: spirit of nature or your preference

Build: I like 30/30/10/0/0 or 30/0/10/30/0 (both with wilderness knowlegde) yet I’ve been experimenting with masters bond again (10 in BM).

I actually tried this, full valk with scholars, and with the pow-pre-vit-crit trinkets and it worked rather well, but the lack of precision kinda annoyed me, having conditional crits rather than a constant chance lowered my damage output overall, you relied too heavily on hunter’s shot (every 9.5 sec traited) and the amount of vitality gained wasn’t that great an improvement in survivability over just going glass cannon.

I can’t say that I tested and concentrated kitten the opening strikes effect on barrage, though normally not every individual hit is a crit, each strike counts as its own %chance, much like rapid fire for example, each hit is either a crit or non-crit

I used siamoth as the main pet for the forage ability, finding feathers was another source of stealth to use to get opening strikes back, but the drawback with this is enemies can also pick up the foraged goods if you’re not quick enough.

Taking remorseless and eagle eye denies you piercing arrows ( I really wish this was condensed with quick draw like warriors crack shot trait) and as such the build was great 1v1, but with only barrage or greatsword swings as “aoe” I struggled 1vX.

TL;DR
Yes its viable
Try this build http://tinyurl.com/lcf9838 you still get 26% crit chance with it for when opening strikes/stealth isnt available and fury from greatsword (meh) and Rampage as One (so OP) push that up to 46% or you could swap the sharpening stone for maintenance oil to get 32% (52% with fury)

Haha never realised the enemy could pick up the foraged item too, and I use siamoth all the time. Usually to go poof in the face of a zerg, or just have every buff in the game if I’m “unlucky”.
