Quaggan has been trying and trying, but Quaggan cannot sit on chair.
Quaggan does not think sitting exists. . .Quaggan sad.
I honestly think this needs to be done. I really enjoy watching medium armor run with a rifle but hate engie rifle skills.
Rifle is not a dps but dot on warrior
Rangers need dat Kentucky long shot.
Like slow as kitten but High damage and High range shots and evasive weapon skills.
or maybe rapid fire conditionless dakka dakka
Ill feel more like a ranger, shooting from a safe distance
imagine shooting a guardian. then have the guardian be like
*dink “wtf?”
sees a ranger
ranger is loading
guard throws reflection
ranger hurts himself
lolsy
many ways to be balanced
and fun
Or maybe give it to thieves.
Would be okay with ranger rifle, though I think melee staff with some support nature magic elements would be more fun, suitable, and entertaining. Who doesn’t want to hit someone over the head with a bifrost? :P
Thief really should just get longbow. There are already too many blinds available and the role is mostly fulfilled by the pistol. There is no dedicated archer build available in the game, though, and thief since the shortbow nerf has lacked a 1200 range attack/weapon altogether.
You literally just described a longbow. Besides “Rangers” despite having “range” in their name do more dps with melee, and are more of a druid/naturalist class than an archer.
I have to agree with post above me, you described the longbow completely. However I wouldnt mind the rifle at all, id prefer a melee staff though. I think the Ranger either is at a stage where its fine power wise and needs to embrace its druid like tendencies.
They will never give rangers rifle + rapid fire, too much machine gun. It would make the claims by the noobs that rangers have machine guns credible.
It’s so hard for people to understand that “Ranger” does not mean “master of ranged weapons”, it means “wilderness roamer”. And, yes, while real-world rangers do and have used firearms, that doesn’t mean it fits within the context of this game world.
Rangers are the only class that has access to both Short and Longbows in addition to a third option (axes), which gives them versatility, and especially now that Longbows have been buffed they are probably the most proficient class at long range.
So, in short, Rangers don’t really need Rifle. I’d prefer another melee option.
We totally need that. There’s hunters and hunters. Right now, rangers can only fulfill one hunter archetype: the primitive spear/bow caveman shouting ooga-booga to get blessed by the spirits of even more primitive fairy-tale beings. No offense meant, but… enter the proper hunter archetype:
- we have the dog.
- we have the outrageous mustache.
- we (used to) have the monocle.
- heck, we even have a clearly labeled Hunting Lodge in Queensdale!
- WHERE IS OUR RIFLE?!
This needs to be settled NOW. I don’t care if the 5 skills all do 1 damage with 200s cooldown. It’s all about the ganging up on a boar with fellow-minded brothers and discussing our heroics afterwards while sipping expensive whisky at the Lodge in front of the fireplace while the wench is roasting the carcass.
That this is still not an option 3 years after launch is an outrage.
Wnatabout NO……… Mý ranger is no solider!
It’s so hard for people to understand that “Ranger” does not mean “master of ranged weapons”, it means “wilderness roamer”.
There should be a sticky thread with this text only.

While I agree with what you’re saying with the regard to the weapon options (would much prefer melee staff myself), a lot of people who argue about the whole ranger vs archer thing forget to look at the official class description.
“Unparalleled Archers” should implicate superior ranged firepower.

And we have that without a rifle. Especially with the recent LB buffs, and the fact we have the longest range ingame, also the fact we can use both bow, we are the archers of the game.
However, let’s not stick to that lame description because as I already mentioned, our highest DPS comes from melee weapons, and before the recent patch, our biggest burst was with GS. Regardless of that description, we are more naturalists than an archer.

“Unparalleled Archers” means exactly what it says – unrivaled skill with bows, which Rangers already have. Not only are they the only class able to use both Shortbows and Longbows, but they are also the most proficient with both. Every other class’s ranged weapons are largely utilitarian and don’t normally function well as primary weapons.
In fact I’m on the borderline with the camp of people who think that the Longbow may have been slightly overbuffed, although I’m more inclined to the say that it needed it and that other class’s ranged weapons need to be buffed as well. They’ve always lagged behind melee to the point that they’re rarely worth using. I don’t see the point of having a weapon set that’s extremely situational.

Again, I’m not disputing whether or not rangers should have rifles. Frankly, I’d prefer them to have the staff as an additional weapon and would prefer for thieves to get the longbow since there are already too many blind options for thieves and they lack a 1200 ranged weapon/attack altogether.
I’m merely just disputing what a lot of people claim that in the case of GW2 “ranger != archer” on the basis that the class description says otherwise, and that said firepower should be justified.
You are now thinking on a musketeer:
yea that would be so awsome
Personally I prefer Warrior Longbow over Ranger

I think thats rifle warrior, aside from medium armor.

yeah i get that.
What do you think hunters sometimes use when they roam the wilderness?
-rifles
Wnatabout NO……… Mý ranger is no solider!
they are not going to make ranger a soldier with rifle because warrior already does that
i honestly want ranger to use spear like a double bladed lightsaber. yay dreams.
What I would love to see come into the game for Rangers (and Warriors) is a Great Axe (Two -Handed Axe).
This fits my idea of a person who wanders the lands --- just my opinion
