Hey all,

I was wandering what possible builds ther is for roaming. I have recently got to 80 and have been searching for the forums for a build but there is so many possibilities like bm or spirit or trapper? What do these mean? Any recommended builds for newbie ranger?

This is my standard advice for new lvl 80’s looking to get their feet wet roaming in WvW:
Take ~240k Karma to Orr and buy the Dwayna Arcon Armageddon armor. I’d say buy some exotic clerics trinkets, they shouldn’t be to expensive. This will give you a little of everything. Trait X/X/30/10/X for oak heart salve and empathic bond or bark skin in survival. Also, grab natures bounty in nature magic. Do with the rest of the trait points as you will. It will take a while to get proficient with a lvl 80 ranger, this basic gear should keep you alive and kicking until you figure out what works best for your play style.

When going to dwayna temple should I get the 4 soldier pieces and 2 magi pieces or should I aim for 6 soldiers pieces?

Also, is there a good roaming build that uses shortbow? I just love that kind of playstyle :p
Finally, could someone also explain to me what a bm build is?

BM stands for Beast Master, which is the 5th trait line of rangers. It adds stats to your pet and healingpower to you. The RRR (Roaming Regen Ranger) build relies on heavy investment in BM trait line. Don’t spend karma on magi gear, you could by some PVT if you want to farm dungeons for tokens though. For RRR builds most people use settlers/apothecary gear. You deal condition damage, your pet deals direct damage (if it hits).

Even with all the heals and protection on dodge you want evades to deal with hard cc (stun/fear/daze/knockdown) becuse apart from Rampage as One ranger has very limited stability application. You also want some control so that your pet hits moving targets better, and you want coondition application as well. Shortbow has all of those, but some argue that axe is better. You can pair it with weapons like sword, axe, dagger, warhorn or torch. Its all down to personal preference. Roaming regen ranger will be rewarding for starters because its pretty survivably, and you will stay in fights longer. The more you learn, the hadrer you will be to defeat. But do bear in mind that this build will result in slower kills. Also check out youtube for some vidos on how RRR plays.
