Q:
Role of greatsword
A:
PvP Greatsword
It has amazing mobility, to chase or escape.
Huge cleave damage on downed targets or just very good aoe on point
The block against ranged is also great defensive.
If you improve daze its 3 sec daze/stun
You can get a decent burst off easyly spike down high priority targets. After there worn down and used defensive cd.

Compared to what other classes can do, the cleave is pretty bad. Regarding damage GS offeres strong single target burst (with the right traits) but low sustained dmg.
It is a balanced weapon, but is geared towards spiking.
It has some spike potential with Maul and a bit of CC with its daze on Bash, but I think its more defensive thanks to its ability to guard and the evade on Auto 3 and Swoop’s leap
just wandering what should imake a bifrost or twighlit for my duid

If you prefer PvP – Twilight.
If you prefer PvE or Condition Builds – Bifrost.
If you have more classes – Twilight.

Not anymore. HoT changed Bifrost to lead amount of profs that can use the legendary.
+ Druid, + Revenant, + Daredvil (and already had 4).
7/9 profs use Bifrost.
5/9 profs use GS
Bifrost is a better choice for multi prof (imo). Before HoT both weapons were available to 4 professions.
I still haven’t made my GS, though it’s one of the legendaries I want. I got Bifrost however absolutely no regrets.
Very personal, But id’s say make Bifrost.
Don’t forget Sword. Before the Bifrost catchup, it was the only weapon usable on 5 professions (now it’s 7). I actually Like Bolt more then either of GS skins. Also sword is almost always the best cleave choice for their respective profession, dps wise, so it sees a lot of play in PVE content.
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.

@Phoebe Ascension
You might have a point.
Even though I had a feeling Axe is not really the “go-to” weapon for that many classes. But yea, HoT changed pretty much everything.
GS was awesome to get the dodger daily finished fast!
221 hours over 1,581 days of bank space/hot pve/lion’s arch afk and some wvw.
Brain tells me do the bifrost but heart tells twighlight
It is a good defensive weapon with CC/Short burst capability. It has mobility that rewards using it offensively. And its defensive nature also encourages using it offensively (Evade frames at the end of auto attack chain, Counter Attack knockback, Swoop evade frames at the end of the attack)
It can definetly be used for attacking. It isn’t going to match the dmg of sword 1 spamming. But you will live several times longer with a GS than a sword.
GS was one of our best tools for fighting rampage warriors back when warriors were more common in PvP as timing the evades helped negate most of the CC effects.
Atm. It is outclassed by staff in the defense and mobility categories. But it has higher burst damage and in the right hands more reliable melee defense.
It also has one of the best short range CCs available in the game through hilt bash. An attack that dazes from the front while stunning from the back and boosting the pets damage.
It is above average down cleave. But a 1 spamming revenant will out cleave you hear unless you combine a pet burst (bristleback f2 for example) when your trying to rally race.
It’s 2 ability (maul) hits just hard enough and with enough range to force a dodge. Making it very good for disrupting an enemies attack rotation.
In PvE it is our sustain melee weapon. Are you in a fight with multiple mobs? Or the mob hits fast/hard enough you want those auto attack evade frames? Then greatsword is your weapon. It won’t match a sword/axe combos damage in most scenarios. But it will keep you alive through all of it without causing your druid to scream into his microphone at you.

The problem is Bifrost’s design is pretty medicore, and lack uniqueness too.
If you really want something to show-off, go make Nevermore instead.
It’s un-tradable, and fit Druid much better.
