Rune for Condi Ranger?
Depending on what you want to do rune of the grove is awesome. Gives great Prot uptime and a 50%chance to root on hit which is great for opening a fight.

Trapper runes for WvW, you can also try Krait Runes (beefs up Entangle a lot and gives you +45% bleed duration).

Krait is nice. It’s pretty easy to get (+)100% bleed duration, and it helps your entangle as well. Undead is pretty good for competitive since AoE condi clears are so insanely prevalent, and I use the bleed on crit trait and sigil (if you’re going the rabid approach.) More bleeds of short duration rather than long-lasting krait bleeds that get cleared quickly.
One little minor problem – it doesn’t always work in WvW.

i used trapper runes for a while and they were fine but since you need to stack traps you have very few stunbreaks. i now use krait runes and i like them although the torment is lackluster.
you could also go with undead runes or even grenth if you wanted to focus on chills.
Bristleback can’t hit anything? Let’s fix the HP bug instead.
Useful options
Traveler runes – imo most useful for SOTF builds
Trapper runes – obv most useful for trapper builds
Krait runes – best “damage” option for SOTF builds
Mad King runes – provide some semblance of condi burst for SOTF builds
Grove runes – useful against necros, some warriors, rangers, guardians, engis
Lyssa runes – useful for 1vx against multiple condi classes
nightmare runes – additional control effect for dealing with thieves
Grenth runes – can be used to setup a perma chill build, although personally I don’t like them since chill doesn’t help against the classes we struggle with most
scavenging runes – a more defensive damage option than krait runes
Krait.
+Condi damage and bleed duration, plus the extra tormet etc from settting off your elite skill.
I run shortbow with Sword/Axe, close combat and kite around as much as possible, traited with Survival of the Fittest to gain Fury from Survival skills. Bleed them all to hell, then when they get close, pop Entanglement that bleeds even more, fury’s me, then drop offhand axe 2 (reflect missles and axe whirl) to anyone caught.
