Is the Rune of the Trapper on Zerker LB/GS worth? Anyone tried it yet?

Also one doubt, you need to be close to the pet to Empatic Bound trait work?

I tried it with 2 traps and one stun breaker. It works, but it was too much effort to make it work. I was using my setup to time my stealth’s and reposition, but it seemed like trying to anticipate where to throw the traps so the enemy doesn’t hit them was nearly impossible without rotating your camera around 180 and throwing them behind you. Which is possible, just annoying when dueling.

On a condi build, they work nicely. Because you want the enemy to hit your traps.

Zerker setup + Remorsless + GS – S/A might be a nice combo too.

I use them on a somewhat hybrid zerk build (its geared to zerk traits anyway), and just use the fire trap with its short cd. Firstly, if you don’t want to be revealed, you may have to use frost trap since it does no damage there is no reveal.

But really traps are very powerful and should be used. If I go back and look at my combat logs the random flame trap damage just from constant dropping them rivals just about every thing else! Problem is the damage is very diffuse and unfocused but you have to think it’s helping your side ..

I’d be more tempted to try Rampagers than zerk, if you want to go full offense with stealth as your defence. Would obviously lose a fair amount of direct damage, but with 6 trait points into MS and Skirm for the LB / Trap traits you’d still have pretty high Power and Ferocity, and your traps / bleed procs would then also be doing a serious amount of damage.

On Zerker? No, not really. You need slots for offensive cds, defensive cds and much more. Traps require more patient play, you also use bonus from regular runes, like Traveler’s/Pack/whatever and without investement, traps do very little by themselves.

If you want stealth, picking up Siamoth would do the trick.

I actually like Remorsless and Zerker without RtW just doesn’t work imo.

ran these runes with various setups. as others have said, traps breaking your stealth make these runes pretty clunky.

i would not recommend them for solo roaming. you are flat out better taking offensive or defensive cooldowns. then again, i would never recommend zerker longbow for roaming in the first place.

for zergs, again, bad. what matters in the zerg is your positioning and your defensive cooldowns. stealth doesnt stop the aoe from killing you.

for small group roaming though, these are effective. snipe for your squad, when people come for you stealth and reposition. presumably your squad is fighting similar small groups so aoe is a non issue, and your teammates can pick people off of you every time you stealth.

the real question is, is it better than the alternatives, and i think the answer is no for every single type of wvw gameplay.

  • zerker longbow in terms of wvw is only effective in zergs, and even then its not as effective as a lb ranger with decent health/armor defensive cooldowns.
  • in-combat run speed is mandatory for any non-zerg wvw. you dont get runspeed from these runes and you cant afford to take Hunt signet because of the traps. Unless you find some magical way to have perma swiftness with your build, these runes leave you in a bad spot for solo play. The super-speed sorta makes up for this in small group vs groups.
  • condition builds have much stronger options, such as undead or krait, power specs have much stronger options, and with the low cooldown on entangle even lyssa’s condi clear is better than these runes.
