Basically, run in the mill S/X + GS build. I already made it, but its open for modification and I need some other opinions. Success so far is decent in the stance of WvW (Save the D/D Thieves because lol pet is open target). No, I dont expect it to work in sPvP, although I wish. The sword Sigil is 5% but I use a stacking sword for most encounters until I hit 25.
Yes, you can be as mean as you want. I do not mind as long as its pretty constructive so I can improve it.

1. Full melee will never really be optimal for WvW or PvP. It lacks the ability to contribute to small skirmishes/ team fights effectly. It’s ok for 1v1, but many classes such as Mesmer or P/D thief will be able to kite you very effectively.
2. If I were you, I’d much rather take Martial Mastery from Wilderness survival (reduced cooldown on Sword/Greatsword skills) than Signet of the Beastmaster. This will also give you the protection on dodge roll minor trait, which is strong against thieves in particular.
3. I would exchange Forest Spider for Jungle spider for the very valuable venom immobilize.
4. I would exchange Signet of the Wild for Signet of Renewal (for the extra condi cleanse and stunbreak) or Signet of the Hunt, making you and your pet more mobile.
5. I would definitely change Troll Unguent to Healing Spring. You have 3 leap finishers on your weapon sets and one blast finisher, that’s an extra 6k healing if you perform all of them inside of your Healing Spring.

I’d maybe changed the trait in MM for Malicious training instead of Steady Focus.
10% of jack kitten is still jack kitten … And you’ll be rolling in melee range like your life depends on it. So you won’t have much profit of it anyways. But pet’s longer immobilize by 50%, also wolf’s fear is noticeable.

Actually only 2, Swoop and Monarch’s Leap. Hornet’s Sting isn’t a leap finisher.
You might consider axe instead of warhorn. The #4 skill hits quite hard and it pulls people in to melee range. With 2 swords, you’re already quite mobile and you can always swap the WH in for traveling.

Swoop triggers its Leap Finisher twice. I would assume that’s what was meant.
Well i run a build that is almost the same! The key for this build to work is too play like a thief. Hit hard and kite !
It should’nt be a problem with this weapon sets since you have so much mobility and defensive move.
Your role: Burst your 3 main GS damage abilities on the target and back off/kite the enemy that focus you (because you are a ranger duh…). rince and repeat till downed!
Works well in 1vs1 too. Except vs the unkillable PU condition mesmer where you just walk way and spam laugh haha.

Alright, So I took some of everyone’s advice. I switched warhorn for axe as my active offhand weapon (still use WH while traveling via swap with GS so its just 3 clicks). I opted for Signet of Renewal in place of Signet of the Wild. Every kill is 32s of swiftness and once you kill one critter, it just stacks well enough to leave SoTH off. Malicious Training was picked up along with Jungle Spider and I love it. Its alot more synergy with Sword, axe and GS with this pet than forest.
Only thing I am partial to is healing spring. It still adds up to more healing technically with axe throw included and the double-triple leap, but I hate the CD so much. Still it works and has saved me lots.

Are you sure about that. I mean I know I get the Healing-heart twice from it, but does it really trigger twice? During the attack on LA freeing citizens counted as a blast finisher, and you could spam it. I put down a fire field and spammed F, pop-up hearts showed Might, Might, Might…but only once I let the channel finish did I get 3 stacks of might.

I strongly disagree with this. Maybe in zerg and silly blob fights melee ranger isn’t optimal, but for small scale roaming (not talking about solo roaming but 2-5 man group) it’s amazing. There is no all around build that destroys everything, certain classes can give you a headache but with the swords you have the mobility to get away when things turns nasty and while you kite your team should be able to back you up. You could try offhand dagger for one extra evasion too if you like. You shoud try bumping your toughness at least to 2,5k (preferably a lot higher, 2,8k even?), otherwise those escape tools won’t really help you when you get focused and splat after few silly hits.
I got lucky and looted ascended soldier armor box some weeks ago, picked the chest piece and been experimenting with different runes and stuff. Currently running GS + S/D, using warhorn off combat with this build as well. 2,4k power, 2,8k armor and 23k HP with guard & sigil stacks.
