SPvP - Trapper Viable (Requires Skill)
Twitch – Aussie Streamer
The build seems pretty solid to me! Gonna have to try that in a abit. I’m used to sword/torch with shortbow, maybe axe dagger will give better results. Love trying builds that require skills.
Thanks for posting this man.
Mate check out your base crit damage after you weapon swap + pet swap. I can get 800-1k auto attacks from my axe, without any real investment into timing. Once you get it more and more under control you will start finding combo’s i did and use your fire fields to boost your might past 10 and whoa the damage is rocking at that point.

Thanks for sharing, i think i remember duelling you some time ago in wvw

Yeah mate, I remember you. Ya tricked me with your nasty LB/SB build with them spiders, was fun seeing something new, think we both ended up running some hybrid spirit build version.

haha yep thats me, was fun. Although i abandoned that build for very long time already. while it was effective, its just not my playstyle at all; too passive, and I can’t stand the sight of those pesky spirits. Now i am working on both trapper or signet builds. Hence i came here XD.

tried it, love it.
1 exception: changed fern hound to wolve for obvious reasons.
Very good pointdefender with fun gameplay.
Not as fun as my gs/lb build, but a nice change once in a while.
This is definetly going on my list ;-)
Update 5.9.2013: getting better ANet, still way to go!

Yeah I enjoy the gs/lb just hate the condition remove for that build can be killer at times.
I would love to see a come back for Trap ranger, I feel good guardian/warrior/ranger (trapper) mid with probably DPS mesmer would make really good combo, for team fights.
Twitch – Aussie Streamer
true, those combo fields you dish out are just a real gamechanger in teamfights.
I’d even go as far as to say that the combo fields have the potential to offer greater support than a spirit ranger (if used correctly)
I love the synergy you have with the build by yourself already with the wolves cc, combofields and mightstacking.
1 question: you say LB/Gs has poor condi removal.
In the build Im deep in the nature magic tree so there is no empathetic bond, but in exchange I have signet of renewal that has a pretty similar effect.
Both builds have healing spring. (so imho both builds have same amount of condi removal)
still, I feel like the power build is much harder to play against condi stackers than your trap build. I dont see the reason why?
edit: nvm, 3 condi / 10s <→ 1 condi /10s

Yeah I’ve been trying to find way’s to improve the build more but there really isn’t much more you can do.
If there was a decent way to get Swiftness into the build without breaking it that would rock, currently all your swiftness comes from RoA and when your in combat weapon swap. I have been thinking Speed runes, but you lose your forge which is required to counter that burst damage (Protection).
Yeah with the LB/GS I always run 30/30/0/10/0 max DPS build, so HS and Renewal are my only options as condition remove. So many time’s I’ve been condition spammed and well no chance of keeping up I need Renewal for stun-breaks as well not just condition clear.
I’ve even tried using Lyssa Runes and when I’m maxed out with conditions on me hit my elite but normally I can’t come back from it due to how much damage I’ve taken how small heal from HS is.
If we had a different condition remove that doesn’t xfer or require our heal skill to remove we be in decent place.

I also feel Trapper build would combo best with H/LB Warrior, the extra CC/Stun from the warrior + blast finishers and fire combo field.
E.g. you trap your target do your weapon combo’s + pet, mean while Hammer Warrior stunning the target while blasting might. It’s like 2 for 1 combo, you get great bonuses while doing your job.
And the down time on your fire field is made up from LB on Warrior, you can leap throw it giving yourself that extra fire field. + your base damage would be allot higher due to might stacks. So them traps + attacks will hit rather hard.

That actually just happend in my last tPvP solo match. I was defending a point with a H/LB warri against an MM Necro, (some) Warri and a thief, and we totally kicked kitten :-P
The (enemy) warri turned out to be a beginner, so it basicly was 2 v 2. But hey, the amount of Might and CC was just “stunning”
PS: for LB/GS try 30/10/0/30, its a roamer build but a great deal of fun!

you could just go 10 pts into nm and pick up natures protection – and run s/d + sb, which is basically the build i ran for the longest time – forge is good, but so is speed or 4 nightmare + 2 lyssa, but i think they fixed it and you don’t get an extra tick from flame trap anymore.
with sb + s/d you have 4 100% projectile finishers – so the burning can be stacked up rather decently, and the pressure from sb in a teamfight is just really handy to set up targets for a kill or interrupt a rez/stomp and you gain another active dodge, making it 5.
wolf/spider, spider/spider, wolf/drakehound, wolf+river/marshdrake usually functions really well, depending on the map and the role you play as this is basically a jack of all trade builds, yet master of nothing, thus you’re strength comes from adapting.
also s/d + a/t > s/t + a/d i cringe everytime i see s/t and a/d.
apart from that it’s really solid.
and double geomancy is beast.

I’m not exactly sure how viable it is but I’ve been running a Rabid Amulet/Carrion Jewel with speed runes and Triple Traps. A little less hp, a little more toughness, always on movement speed increase and a nice condition damage stat, 0/30/30/10/0.
I’m not sure how it fairs compared to this build, or if the build I’m suggesting was one you had already thought of and tested out, but I just don’t really like the whole Carrion/Forge (or just Carrion) setup. More of a preference than an opinion about viability though.

Hi, before the last update I was testing and running Trapper Build, it was decent but just didn’t cut it well now its decent and cut’s it.
So I’ll share my SPvP build and i’ll try my best to explain how to use the build, as there is allot going on. If your a FOTM Ranger just leave now this is a build that require skill so it won’t carry you in top tier pvp.
Trapper – SPvP/TPvP Only.
Build Link: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fMAQRAnY8fjEVx11VWWs2Bi2DNZeMxeYIH9oXh0fyHagK-TwAgyCpIATBmDMDYSwsgNCZFyehZAA
This build covers allot of area’s which many won’t see at first until you have really given it a good run.
Runes/Sigil/Pets & Amulet are picked to fit the build in many area’s, E.g. Weapon/Pets and combo fields are big part of this build learn to use them correctly and as much as you can.
Axe/Dagger – Sword/Torch, are a must combo change them are your gimping the build.
Dagger/Sword/LR are your dodge’s and vigor upkeep, with how much imob going around you need a hard dodge. Natures Renewal won’t save your kitten so don’t waste your time taking it. LR plays big roll with hard dodge stun break and vigor up keep, with recent nerf’s to vigor you need a solid upkeep.
RoA don’t randomly use save it and try to win all your fights without using it, best to use it when someone is about to go down, res or stomp is your best options even for escapes. Your taking RoA for the Stability, not the fury or might.
Weapon swap as much as you can, your auto attacks are going to hit rather hard, pet swap as much as you can keep them 3 might stacks up at all times.
So there it is, simple break down of the build if you mod it don’t bother playing the build your going to run into many problems along the way.
I enjoy the fact that you use sigil of leeching, I tried it and since rangers have so many inherent sources of dodges/vigor sigil of energy actually becomes a bit excessive.
A variation to this build that I might suggest would be going for keen edge in Marksmanship 10, which adds a relatively significant burst occasionally. If this happens on Axe2, thats a 10 stack bleed instantly.
Anyhow, i usually prefer to play with more than 1200 condition damage.
Close enough to my current tPvP build for Ranger. I do switch pets sometimes, but I feel that both Lynx and Spider give you a lot of fun stuff. Lynx is nice for bursts and forcing early condi clears (8 bleeds just from the pet? For 15 seconds ? Can be scary ;p ), while Spidy is just my beloved pet and covers conditions.
Now you may ask how do I manage to survive without a stun break! Well, I have some SA trait, and I tend to quickly switch couple things if I see I’m about to face 2 or more warriors, but I found out that SoW is pretty good passive regen, helping out a bit. In my traitset, if needed, I can switch II in MM to reduced cd on signets and just take SoR If I feel I’ll need it.
Why not HS as a heal? I do take it sometimes, however, I find trap build not really that supportive for group fights, I tend to either bunker some point for a while, switch between points, when helping everyone on my way if I can. So it’s mostly 1v1, 1v2, 2vX. TU is just far better as a selfheal, I prefer it in general.
:Edit:In Skirmishing, there’s Primal Reflex use instead

Really nice build man! I’ve tried it and i love it! 5/5 wins in tPvP
Andúnë Faroth, level 80 sylvari ranger.
Some nice feed back, I do disagree with fair amount of idea’s but that just me I see things differently.
Everything in this build is designed to combo off each other and offer different combo’s other builds can not offer, E.g. my Healing combo – Weapon Swap (Leeching + HS + Leap + Pet F2. At the same time I can remove conditions on myself and team mates but also heal my teams and give them regen + offer water field for blast finishers which stack up the AoE team heals. That’s just one of the combo’s, now the fire field combo’s and weapon combos are rather good as well everything is timing play it right and you can have big upkeep on burning.
