Guild Wars 2

Hi all, I’m super new to the ranger class and I’m at a bit of a loss for where to start. I tried checking a lot of the guides in the sticky but they were outdated by quite a couple of years, and metabattle does not currently stock Open World + Farm builds.

I left utilities + pet options blank, because I was hoping you guys could recommend some good options. I heard that Jaguar + Stalker was top DPS, but what about ranged pets? Also, I figured the 25% movement speed signet would be efficient, but I don’t know what to take for my other two utilities. Should I take traps instead +gear/trait for conditions instead?

For gear Berserker’s is currently the best all around in pve, but condi builds recently have been brought to be almost on par. Since you have a longbow though, you’ll probably want zerkers. In that case I’d recommend dropping the mainhand axe for a greatsword or sword. The axe does really poor physical damage and is only really useful for tagging mobs for loot. The sword can be a pain to get used to, but if you turn off the auto attack and get used to timing dodges inbetween attacks you’ll have the highest dps possible for ranger. Otherwise there’s the greatsword.

For utilities signet of the hunt is great for move speed, and from there you can decide if you want more dps or more survival/support. For raw damage sic ‘em, quickening zephyr, and signet of the wild are all great choices. If you want a bit more survival you can look at signet of stone, signet of renewal, and lightning reflexes. Frost spirit is also a very nice support option since you can drop it in a big fight and it’ll buff the damage of everyone near it. For heal skills you can pick your favorite that isn’t water spirit, and for your elite strength of the pack is hard to go wrong with.

Lastly cats, birds and drakes are generally the only pets you’ll need. Moas can be nice for their boons and if you really want a ranged pet you could take a spider, but between the raw damage of the cats and birds and the tankiness of drakes you usually don’t need anything else. Its also worth noting that drakes have one of our very few blast finishers.
