sPvP Build – WvW Build
Tarnished Coast Server- Anthrage Stormrider on Youtube
So I experienced something last night I hadn’t had happen before and can’t explain – had one downed target selected and my pet went to an entirely different on the Search and Rescue usage. Anyone else have this happen?
You can see it twice in this vid. Any ideas?
The pet doesn’t go to your target. It will go to the closest downed/defeated ally. The real failure in this skill is that sometimes the pet won’t ress. It will just stand on your ally, doing nothing.
In all my previous uses it went to my target. In this example, in one of the instances, it went to a more distant downed ally in any case.
afaik it goes to a random ally within the skill’s range.
I don’t know, before Search and Resque felt more reliable. Now it occasionally fails to ress. I think it used to work with a downed pet before as well, which was better. I’ve dropped it for a number of reasons…
In my opinion just another useless slot filler.
i think S&R tends to suffer from the same bug of lick wounds, failing when the target is not on a flat surface.
It never went to your target thou, only the closest one, giving priority to downeds before defeateds
You should always learn the rules of a skill, before you set up expectations for it. The pet will revive the nearest downed or defeated, player or NPC, within about 600 range of the pet. Not yourself. So when you trigger Search and Rescue, you have to keep in mind where the pet is, and who’s closest to it. Guild Wars 2 has no skills that effects a selected ally, only a selected foe. But you can use “Guard” to send the pet to a selected location, and then use Search and Rescue.
Search and Rescue won’t work for me a lot of the time.
It’ll run to the players body, stand over it and just stare at them. >_> Not doing anything.
When it does work flawlessly though, a little piece of me is like : “/CHEER ^.^ OMGGG YAY IT WORKED!”
I also feel that way about our Downed Skill #3 (Lick Wounds). When I use it, I’m not sure what to expect.
Welcome to Ranger.
That’s all fine and good, except it did not go to the nearest…my expectations are fine, the functionality is simply incorrect.
At 00:14 of this video, you can clearly see that the downed supervisor is much closer to the pet when the skill is activated than the downed player the pet ran to. Nearest is not what it did – it is not working correctly.

That’s a horrible example. You ran into a huge pile of players in WvW, which means you are probably not seeing half of the players there, because of culling. So how can you possibly see which player is the nearest, let alone expect the skill to work as intended? Of curse Search and Rescue will be less effective in situations where the game is suffering from loads.
I have used Search and Rescue a lot in fractals and dungeons, and the times it hasn’t worked as I expected, I can count on one hand.
The skill should either not be able to click if no targets are in range or it should have a visible range indicator when you hover over it with the mouse.
it should be on target click imho, and it should have a long range 1500 which is calculated from the player’s position
First off all, if culling were a factor, it would have caused the pet to go to an invisible downed target that was closer to it than the one I was standing on or the more distant one it in fact went to…so this point is completely invalid, and the example is actually a very good one.
Secondly, I DO expect the skill to work as intended. I think ANet expects it to as well…but it clearly does not. That would be where the ‘fail’ portion of the thread title comes in…
I’m sorry – you may believe otherwise, but it is not working as intended, that is beyond question, and it should be. I think it’s important it be established this is the case and the issue not be confused. If something is to be fixed, the first step is admitting it is broken. And this definitely be broken.
