Hello fellow rangers. I am after some advice on the Vigorous spirit trait which can be found in the Nature Magic line. The trait says “Spirits have twice as much health. Spirit bonuses have 35% better chance of providing their benefits.”

When i took this trait, the little flashing boon thingy reads “70% chance to apply xxx on hit.” At first i thought wow, 70% on hit to get boon/dmg/condition. But in reality i found that this does not seem to be the case.

I would like to use the Stone Spirit as an example. The Stone Spirit would give you a 70% chance to gain protection on hit. The boon itself lasts around 5-6 sec and says that protection can be stacked. After the boon has expired it would take around another 4 hits before i get the boon back.

There are couple things that don’t add up here. with 70% on hit chance i (with a fast firing SB) i would have expected quite a few protection stack, 5 sec is a long time couple taht with 70% chance. I would have expected to see a a refresh of the boon. Secondly i don’t understand why there is a long delay after the boon has expired to regain the boon. To me it the 70% seems to be a myth. The behaviour is more in line with 35% chance.

Has anyone else experienced this? I am scouring through the ranger trait to come up with a viable build.

It says in the tooltip, the cooldown for the effect is 10 seconds, so you can only get the boon every 10 seconds.

There is a 10 second internal cooldown before you can activate the protection again. That’s what the “Effect recharge: 10 seconds” means in the description. This basically means that you can’t have perma protection when you have the spirit out.

As for the 70% activation chance, I don’t really notice it that much. It seems to proc often enough while it’s still alive with the trait. I haven’t really tested it extensively to confirm or deny your findings.

Ahh i see it now. I guess that explains the delay before i get the boon back up again. That poses another question. How can protection be stacked? the boon says it can be stacked.

There is a running theory that each spirit proc has it’s own internal cooldown that is independent of each other. If you have 4 rangers running the stone spirit, you can potentially have protection permanently.

It’s not proven yet though.

EDIT: added words for clarification
EDIT 2: I meant 4 rangers, since prot from spirit only lasts 3 seconds

Frost spirit has no internal cooldown despite the tooltip. I dunno if that’s been mentioned but it’s relevant because 10% bonus hit on 10s cooldown sucks. That’s not how it works. It’s a 7% DPS increase with the trait, flat increase for party.

I’m not sure if you are asking how the stacking works, or the methods in which you can approach 100% uptime on it.

Frankly, the game wasn’t designed around being able to keep up boons like protection a lot. You can use them in a active/reactive to prepare for incoming damage, but other than that, there aren’t many classes that alone can attain high duration protection.

If you are asking how the stacking works however, its that when multiple sources provide protection, the durations don’t overwrite each other, and are instead added and a total duration is created.

I honestly don’t know what exactly is being asked, so I answered both.
