September 29th Patch Notes
Very basic stuff, but I’m pretty happy about everything.
Really like the changes to CotW, Clarion Bond, the Spirit changes are decent as well, and we will see how We Heal As One plays out.
Rangers back in the meta confirmed
I’m mostly positive about the pets getting condition damage. I think people underestimated the impact of this.
For instance devourer pet will finally be a good choice (not best of course, but still). Birds and drakes have quite a bit of condi applications, so boosting it is very nice. Spiders getting 1000, i like it Their poison aoe might have to be dodged now.
WHaO amazing, even more utility, even if copied duration is capped.
Quick draw was already good, now just better, so no complaints there (one of my favorite traits).
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.
Very basic stuff, but I’m pretty happy about everything.
+1
I like the fact Irenio already told us the balance were mostly about basic stuff but they are looking into it so i’m happy with this bug fixes for now.
It is a good sign Anet is balancing the game.
Really good stuff but I wish ambidexterity was fixed. The condition damage increase is no longer applied after death.
somewhat dissapointed, mini balance patch. Dunno why you hyped it up so much on stream (all these pages man, 6 hour to do them all, those 15s per class where enough to cover 90%). Some of the changes are pretty meaningless – spirit boons and MDG, still 0 reason to ever use those traits. Some of it is pretty good for pve – vuln on spirit, pet condi dmg (cats stack a lot of bleeds in pve), 3 stacks might on call.
Unfortunately there is nothing in there for pvp. The only way for your pets to apply meaningful condis is crit on autoattack in BM along with sharpened edges. But the pets that can crit like birds and cats, never hit with autoattacks in pvp because target moves. Pets that can hit with autoattacks cant crit (spiders, devourers). THe bleed on auto crit is never worth it in pvp then and you will only proc sharpened occasionaly. Maybe eagle can get of its f2 bleed with taunt every 3-4 tries, but thats not much.
I mean I love the change and it was long overdue, but unfortunatly doesnt do much in pvp. Maybe buff devourers precision by 100-200, could maybe be useful then, they are the worst pets anyway this would give them a role.
Heal as one is good, could see some use now, maybe even open up a cele build with axe.
Just really disappointed in the scope of the patch (and if i understood it right on the stream, the next balancing will happen after league season1?? that would be like feb2016 or something?). And not nerfing d/d ele after all the shenenigans and announcements how you intend to do so is a whole other story but not for ranger forum.
Just did some testing and i think pets are bugged. Buffing the pet to 1830 precision, it should crit 43,5%, it was way less then that. Couldnt test it extensivley, too many people around with fury, loosing spotter and whatever, but it seemed i was getting way less then that – around 25-30% at most. SOmeone please do a proper test.
No healing power stat on pets? Why is that?
Cool patch, especially Warhorn/Clarion Bond changes and WHaO is total boon copy, not a fixed amount and duration like some people speculated. 16s quickness is great
[TLA] Desolation (EU)
Unfortunately there is nothing in there for pvp.
Somewhat disagree. The Quickdraw stacking is good(ie. practically chain Hunter’s Shot) and if you can fit Marks or wh into your build then the Clarion Bond/CotW change is good too.
Poor Frost Spirit. That skill’s group viability just got destroyed.

Huh? It got buffed unless I’m missing something obvious…

It got changed to Vuln application, which most groups have maxxed out anyway. In Heart of Thorns, this will be even worse as it will be handed out like candy on Halloween. Frost Spirit now adds no damage at all to most groups.

-Storm Spirit: Changed the on-hit boon to now apply 3 stacks of vulnerability for 10 seconds.
Frost spirit still provides 75% chance to add 10% damage boost. I think you merged Frost TRAP and storm spirit.
is LoyF good now?

you have to take marks and skirmishing for quickdraw change to have any effect, BM is still better imo, you can still land the taunt after the change. I mean i love the quickdraw fix, but its a bug fix not a buff really. s/t a/d condi really makes use of it. I play quickdraw on all my ranger builds and it will help on some.
At first glance i thought pets with condi would be a buff for pvp, but looking into it, its not really the case. mainly cause they only hit when the target has CC or with leap skills, so you cant ever stack bleeds with them. You could with range pets if any of them had precision. Thats why i think devaurer precision buff would be great.
Great changes + fixes all around. I’m also VERY surprised they let Call of the Wild give 3 stacks of might. I was sure that wasn’t an option when they finally made it into a blast finisher.
I guess Irenio IS turning out to be Ranger’s Robert Hrouda 2.0. Feels good to be a Ranger again with a competent dev at the helm that will actually do some changes (good ones, that is).
Will update once Path of Fire releases.

facepalms I was mixing up spirits. My mistake! Yeah, these are pretty nice buffs all over.
LoL, they took away our taunt just to give us supreme ultimate power? The WHAO change is the most broken and funny thing I have ever had in gw2.

That change was absolutely critical to making WH questionably viable IMO. The weapon has fallen into complete obscurity. Hunter’s Call is utterly useless outside of that MKT bleed build, CotW gave us boons we didn’t even need as a ranger, and the blast finisher was on such a long CD compared to so many other professions. Not acceptable for such a valuable offhand slot. With the trait that gives you CotW on pet swap, this could actually be really quite good. Dunno yet, but I will try it for sure. Anything that improves our weapon options is great in my book.
Looking hopeful to the point I think I will order HoT for this weekend. Gotta let the initial feel-goods wear off before I decide.
the changes are really really good and whao er my gawd is that skill not awesome i think it is what it needed LOVE IT !
Looking forward to seeing how my snow leopard performs now with the 1k condition damage to back up all the bleeds it applies. Very happy about this change!

I approve of the might increase. Currently, I’m using a build similar to Frost Spotter NM, which uses a war-horn and pet swap to double blast my healing spring water field.
I can already provide perma swiftness, perma fury and near perma regen (if I drop HS on you) to the group. The added stacks of might will be a nice addition.
I know that WHaO is the new hotness. I may try it out. But, I just enjoy the group utility that my build gives.
Sometimes I wonder what I’m doing here…
- Call Lightning: Fixed a bug so that the daze will properly be increased by daze-increasing effects.
This is something I’m surprised no one mentioned. This change, along with Storm Spirit’s passive rework is just kitten nice. I thought I would never see this as there was always a split on whether Moment of Clarity should affect Storm Spirit since it doesn’t even affect pets.
Should we try and push for this to apply to pets now? Haha!

Obviously were supposed to be good at breaking bars I guess.
CotW buff and icon to know when it will proc. Nice QoL change right there. The spirit changes seem nice. A good spirit QoL change would be to select a spot to summon them, like the warrior does with his banners.
I just wish we would also have gotten an icon for Beastly Warden since that one is actually even more important to reliably trigger.
