Shortbow Range is now Pathetically Comical
Welcome to the world of engineers – throwing Grenades further then firing a Mortar.
why not instead of nerfing the range, just adjusting the arrow speed, short bow should fire faster but have a slower arrow speed, making it slightly easier to dodge. Long bow however should take longer to fire but the arrow should travel much faster making it more deadly and harder to dodge. Just an idea….spitballin ideas….brainstorming…….something the devs probably never do…

I’d agree, range is a significant “nerf”. I play a ranger to range kill. I do not want to be melee, it is not my play style! Please feel free to take back the damage increase and put the range back out at 1200, or give us a trait to do so.
Having it at 900 by default but a master trait that could bring it to 1200 makes some sense actually.
I think the issue was that SB became the de facto Ranger weapon. Which was only a result of the Anet making the Longbow so poor. Yay, for the LB buff, but why reduce the effectiveness of the SB? Makes no sense. It was not OP in any way.

As long as its the same trait as the LB range increase. Two traits for the two separate weapons is too much of a burden. I actually still feel like it should be the 25pt trait you get in Marksman tree and not something you have to choose. Training Marksman should mean just that, shouldn’t it? A focus on fighting at extended ranges?

Or that yeah, that’s a good idea.
I was definitely switching between the SB/LB before, but now in all likelihood the ‘out of range’ message will pop up more often after doing so.
Range breakdown should be: Longbow > Shortbow > Axe
Oh dear. Dont make suggestions like that. They’ll misinterpret that as – Nerf Axe range to 600 LOL
D&D shortbow is 600 inches
D&D longbow is 1200 inches
GW2 is heavily influenced by that game. Just a thought. Maybe you should be glad it’s not 600 range?
Still…
Shortbow is almost as powerful as sword, pierces, and stacks insane might on pet with companion’s might and berserker now with the huge buff to companions might. Arguably, in dungeons and wvw, shortbow just got a lot better. In pvp it is a nerf because people were pressuring points from 1200 inches with a psuedo-melee weapon. Come on, that’s not too strong? Everyone and their mom used shortbow until yesterday because of it’s ridiculous range. It should have been nerfed a long time ago.

No. It doesn’t. It’s the kittening Necro’s staff and Greater Marks all over again. It should be baseline. It was baseline and there was nothing wrong with it. The reason nobody was using longbow was because that sucked.
@ topic: Applying real world logic to a game with magic is pretty special in its own right…

I meant if longbow was 1200 then it makes sense to me if shortbow is 900 then the trait bring them to 1200 and 1500 repectively how does that not make sense?
I’m not arguing that I want it to be 900 I’ve used shortbow since the game came out and I still do, but I do think longbow should have a longer range by default.

Actually, it’s 60 feet, and that’s just a range increment. The weapon shoots much farther, but you take a -2 penalty to attack rolls for each range increment past the first.
Nobody used shortbow solely because of the range. Most people probably saw it as the least sucky ranged option. It has decent defensive/utility skills built in, benefits from the piercing arrows trait, and isn’t the longbow. Those are the three things it has going for it.
Also, if we’re going to apply logic to this stuff, we should probably first recognize that a shortbow’s real world equivalent would probably be a composite bow, which had all of the range of a longbow, but was much smaller due to the improved materials, design, and construction.

Not if it’s a long composite bow.
I win!
