Shortbow Selection
duration is important in conditions but it is extremely important and that is how you do most of your damage.
Wrong.
Go for condition damage.
80Rng – 80Wa – 80Thief – 80Grd – 80Ele – 80Engi – 80Necro
how is that wrong?
Because Condition Damage is far better than Condition Duration
80Rng – 80Wa – 80Thief – 80Grd – 80Ele – 80Engi – 80Necro
well I’ll entertain your answer, by saying then is power and condition damage better then precision and condition duration.

Depends on your traits/sigil/build
80Rng – 80Wa – 80Thief – 80Grd – 80Ele – 80Engi – 80Necro
So I am pretty much just putting the finishing touches on my character. My dps set I use is a bleed centered build with a shortbow, my Superior Runes I have 3 2 set bonus’s all with 15% to bleed duration, everything else is some combo of Condition damage , precision, Power, then some toughness and vitality.
My spec is 20/25/20/5 I think
The thing to remember is that bleed ticks each second. Shortbow starts with a 3 sec bleed. So to get it to 4 sec you need +33% duration. Any less then that and it’s still a 3 sec bleed. To get it to 5 sec you need +67% duration. And to get it to 6 sec you need +100% duration.
From what you’ve posted, it sounds like you have 3*15% + 20% = 65% duration. Just shy of what you need to get shortbow’s bleed to 5 sec. So the 10% duration on the bow would take you from a 4 sec to a 5 sec bleed. Or you could go with the regular bow and ditch 30% worth of bleed duration runes and maintain your current 4 sec bleed. (This is in theory. I’d suggest going to the test golems and firing one shot with your shortbow with your runes equipped or unequipped and counting the number of bleed ticks.)
Thoughts on 10% condition duration vs 179 condition damage?
That’s not the comparison you need to be making. It’s the 10% condition duration bow vs 179 (from weapon) + whatever additional condition damage you can get by ditching two of the +15% bleed duration runes since they aren’t getting you to the next second of tick.
Pearl needler: Going from a 4 sec bleed to a 5 sec bleed is a 25% increase in bleed damage. (Actually a bit less since targets will die with bleed stacks on them.)
Condition damage bow: Bleed damage at level 80 is 42.5 + cond_dam/20. So you need to plug in your current condition damage stat to determine a percentage improvement.
- The 20 WS gives you +200 condition damage.
- I don’t know how much condition damage your armor and jewelry gives. You need that info to compare.
- 179 condition damage from the bow
- Looking through the runes, it looks boosting to 5 of the rune of the krait (which retains the +15% bleed duration) will get you an extra +55 and +100 condition damage. Your 6th rune can be a +28 condition damage, for a total of +183 condition damage from runes.
So let’s say you’ re getting 250 condition damage from your non-weapon equipment (excluding runes). That would mean your current bleed damage is 42.5 + (250+200)/20 = 65 per tick.
If you switched to krait condition damage runes and bow, that’s an extra 179+ 183 condition damage. 42.5 + (250+200+179+183)/20 = 83.1. 83 per tick is a 28% increase in damage over 65 per tick. So condition damage would be marginally better. And your poison and traps would benefit as well.
Incidentally, this is why trappers go for 30 skirmishing. The double trap condition duration trait is much better than either +300 condition damage or +30% condition duration.
