Shortbow, high critical or high power?
I run with ~2950 attack, 60critical chance with food and 57-58 (depends if SB or Duals) critical damage.
In my opinion no condition build has damage comparsion to it. It simply hits more.

My guess is that you’re running a glass cannon build though given you have the best of both worlds with power and critical chance, my build runs high toughness so I can’t get both up to those amounts.

I’m running full glass cannon with zerker gear with SB/GS with 52% crit chance, 100% crit dmg and 2964 attack.
Can you please tell me what gear you are using? I want to reduce my crit damage but keep the power at the same level
Hmm your builds are very different to mine but it’s interesting to see your stats, makes me wonder if I can keep my crit at 50% and up my power at the expense of some toughness.
Although then I come back to the same old question, do I leave my power as it is and bring my critical chance up instead.
It actually seems to come down to this, do I use sharpening stones or do I use maintenance oil, that’s what I can’t seem to decide over.
I think given the difference between 50% and 60% critical chance, I’d see more overall damage by upping my power from 2000 to 2300 instead.
Logically power should be better once you are above 50% crit, if the majority of your attacks already crit it must be better to boost them, I think?
The one thing I feel is somewhat underwhelming is +crit damage, I have also run a power crit setup for a while with a knights armor base and recently put a zerker set together for dungeons and honestly the only real noticeable diffrence to me is I’m squishier, of course the damage is higher too but not very much.

With 2947 armor I wouldn’t even call it close to glass, heh.
I run with everything knight (armor, trinkets) beside weapons (berserkers, since with such huge amount of armor, critical chance I need so attack boost) and ruby jewel to trinkets. And runes w/e boost your attack by 160 (I chose vampirism, since it’s additional 1k heal every 25sec). Runes of citadel probably will do too. Or orbs (which will boost critcal damage to 70 and critical chance by 3-4%).

Yeah, its possible to get high atk without glass. Im at 3250 attack, 48% Crit Chance with ~2450 Armor all without food. I would say ~50% Crit chance is best with SB since attack speed is so high then grab power/Crit Damage.
Stats with other food would be probably higher, but omnomberry ghost is like gift from heaven :P
Ha I’m dumb, I’ve just noticed some of you are talking about ATTACK, not power. My mistake our stats are not that far off.
I’m dumb.

i was and still have most of my gear berserker but to be honest the damage just wasn’t there, i did more dmg with my mesmer geared to be more defensive than with my ranger. I have tried almost any build with rangers and still don’t find something i feel comfortable with. Recently i am trying 0/15/30/25/0, i have around 45% crit and with the fury boon on weapon swap i almost always have more than 60% so that is good, im running shortbow and greatsword. I survive very good n to be honest the dmg is not that bad at all. So far im liking it, plus since i know i need fury and boons it encourage me to change weapons constantly, because mostly all i did was pew pew lol. Now is more fun to play a ranger, liking it so far
If your attack is weak, having a high critical rate won’t do you much good. 200% of a wet noodle is just two wet noodles. You have to balance it. Plus, if you’re dead because you’re running a berserker build and are squishier than a mud-flat… Well, 200% of ZERO is still ZERO.
That comes from the perspective in that I do a lot of WvW. So doing well there, versus dungeons or events or whatever has its circumstances that are similar in some respects, but vastly different in others. So anything I say… Well, it’s colored by my experience which may, or may not, be helpful.
So, in WvW I run a hybrid Knight/Soldier armor and Valkyrie weapon build. My trinkets are Berserker/Knights/Soldier trinkets. I use beryls as my upgrades on my Soldier trinkets because they not only have precision, but they also increase my critical damage output (and vitality) which is well over 200% damage on a critical vs the 150% base critical.
I run 0/30/30/10/0. I use Superior Runes of the Ranger.
Over-all, I’m happy with the build. I think I crit around 50% of the time without maintenance oil, precision boosts through my sigil or any food buffs. And I have decent attack (including the 5% damage boost because I have pets) and armor almost as good as my guardian’s…
I think the table on the link I’m going to provide will provide some information that you are looking for. I hope it helps: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Critical

Knight isn’t even close to berserker in output. Are you sure you’re not confusing knight for Cavalier?
Crit dmg stacking is extremely effective. There’s a reason warriors stack it.

Thats because they have ungodly utilities for might and fury upkeep. Signet if Rage is OP, its our RaO but on a 60s cooldown.
Well, since I guess it wasn’t as helpful just to post a link to a table, I’ll offer an explanation. Assuming you have an equal crit chance and crit damage, lowering the crit damage and increasing you crit chance by the amount you lowered the damage was always result in a higher damage.
For example:
50% chance, 50% damage. The chart shows 50% more damage.
55% chance, 45% damage. The chart shows 52.3% more damage.
The damage amount is calculated (I’m assuming) over a long period of time, ideally as it goes to infinite to get the best measurement possible. There is no circumstance where what I’ve said above was not the case, as long as the amount added to chance and the amount subtracted from damage are equal.
Note: The damage calculation is a damage over time (or damage output), not damage per hit. If you want bigger numbers, this isn’t necessarily the way to go.
