Should rangers move faster than others?
while it would be nice to just have a 33% speed SoH, I dont like the idea of rangers being faster.. anet even said thief is meant to be the most mobile class(sadly) while i think rangers need better positioning skills. like.. Longbow 4 as a knock down should cause the ranger to roll back (mini dodge?) to further themselves from their foe. things like that.
“i cant win in this fight, so i need to run away faster” is not the profession i want to play in guild wars 2
As a passionate ranger, I would say no to that.
Give ranger a bit more options to disengage the fight is fine, but a plain higher move speed wouldn’t be either fair or really that useful.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
The risk of higher mobility is that the ranger kites with no effort while the pet attacks . It sounds unlikely given the state of pets but it has to be an influence in the design.
Ok, I can admit to a harebrained idea.
I do like the notion that rangers should be more positional.
The issue with being a ranger (or a lot of classes frankly) is that it is way too easy for melee to engage without ever having taken damage on “the way in”.
Thoughts on what might work?
I disagree with being faster than other professions, the mechanics as they are now don’t take much away from the ranger in terms of movement. I would however like more synergy between what is currently out there, right now there is a lot of disparity and take away between ranger builds. For example if ANet is going to emphasize so much on spirits, I would like to see how they allow spirits to better interact with existing builds. I hate the idea that rangers are supposed to be ‘jack of all trades’ yet, we are forced to specialize with a build. The problem is that, the way the ranger is now it only allows for a few builds to be viable and sacrifices, rather than options, is what happens when you try to make a ranger build that works as a jack of all trades. So why not live up to that? Spirits under-traited should allow for ranger-defensive mechanics, while spirits traited should allow for ranger-aoe support mechanics. That is a jack of all trades idea right there.

Actually yeah we should, by that I mean we should have 25%speed without signet or runes.
Im not so sure Rangers should be able to move faster than others, but their pets sure naturally should.
They shouldn’t need sic’em. There is no reason why someone with or without a swiftness buff should be able to outrun a wolf or feline.. or bird for that matter. It’s just plain stupid.

I think atleast some pets should have a sprint cd and not swiftness but a 40% speedboost for 10s like sic em on a 20s cd or something similar, would make sense for non tank melee pets to have this.
I remember anet mentioning something about the impossibility of going over swiftness’ speed bonus.
Anyway, I think the speed should be a fixed trait or just give rangers 10-15% faster movement speed than other classes. It would definitely make ranger “special”
EDIT: Even if it’s only in combat speed boost

We already have S/x-GS warriors for that anyway.
Rangers just need faster weapon switching and better kiting utilities. For a class that is supposed to excel in ranged combat (which needs kiting to function), it’s sad that warriors/thieves/engies/mesmers have better options in those areas when it comes to ranged combat.
