Okay, played warrior and now A-Net, please stop giving us the spiked Kool-Aid. Someone who has played both the Warrior and Ranger (and leveled them to 80), tell me how we are even remotely on par with a Warrior. I L2P on the Ranger for well over a year (since Beta) and now that I am playing a Ranger, I feel like someone switched the Easy Mode. Here is my beef:

Flip the Actives on the signets. Activating Signets should work on us and then trait to work on pets. There, problem solved. The trait can even be a lower one since it would not be as useful.

While we are on the matter of Ranged vs. Melee, why can’t Piercing Arrows be an automatic feature of all Ranged Attacks vs. being a traited one?

Also, I have seen many people talk about how to make Ranger have permanent Fury. I just did a test with my warrior and and did it with 1/10th the ease. Please give us longer Fury or better skills to do it with. I miss the Longbow Fury bug.

The ranger is actually very strong, however it may not feel like it due to several reasons i will not bother to repeat.

The signets should affect us AND pet. Shouldn’t have to trait for it to work one way or the other. Ranger Signets is a massive joke.
Spotter or Piercing arrows should be made Master Minor. Pets should automatically gain the ability to apply Opening Strike. Spotter, Piercing Arrows and Eagle Eye are all VERY good traits, all situated in the SAME tier. This ruins the whole traitline.

I can’t agree more with this, although i don’t think it should be Piercing Arrows as the master minor since that’d make the trait only useful for 2 of our weapons instead of all of them.

Our signets are just so….lame… without beast masters signet…

My only concern with ANet handling trait changes at this stage in the game is I’m worried what they’d replace them with. We’d probably end up in a worse place than we currently are now.

Have they even added traits since the game launched? It seems like the most we could hope for is reshuffling of things.

Think ANet should make active signets apply to player and pet by default. Signet of beastmaster should apply passive effects to nearyby allies.

There’s a million things I’d like to change about rangers, some good ones here I agree with another would be a recent thought that crossed me is our shouts should be group focused rather than pet focused in a solo situation they would still affect pets (and us) but let’s us offer more utility for a group, sic ’em for example how neat would it be to have that skill work for your entire party? sure the damage boost would have to be brought down but I think it could work as a great boon to a group without nerfing it for us in a solo situation given that it would also affect the ranger aswell as his pet.

I like Prysins suggestions^^

They probably dont change signets because 3 of them see a lot of play even without actives, and SoS (the one which isnt used much without SoB) would basicly just be a better version of Protect Me.. so then theyd have to rework that too, and thats just far to much work for ANet.

I personally would love this, or make Signet of the Beastmaster cause an AoE boon depending on the signet, Wild = Fury, Hunt = Swiftness, Renewal = Regen, Stone = Protection, the boon would for the most part be more of a “help the party” sorta thing rather than a “buff the ranger!” sorta thing but still…

That or add “Antidote Signet” as a Grandmaster trait ( i think NM would be a good place for it but that’s just me…) that makes it so using a signet removes 1 or 2 conditions

Flip actives on signets? No, just make them always affect us and our pets.

Piercing arrows either shouldn’t exist or should be merged without quickdraw while staying in the same traitline and tier.

The Marks line is just in desperate need of consolidation. There are too many good options and we can’t take them all because of traits that should arguably be in effect by default i.e Piercing Arrows, Signet of the Beastmaster

Actives should affect us by default and SotB can be scrapped, or if Anet doesn’t want to go that far they could just merge it with Signet Mastery. This way you could make signets effective without going 30 points into Marks, instead only 10 points deep in the line would open room for a signet in alot more builds.

To replace SotB something like this is perfect:

That or add “Antidote Signet” as a Grandmaster trait ( i think NM would be a good place for it but that’s just me…) that makes it so using a signet removes 1 or 2 conditions

Or simply something like what eles have in Written in Stone: Maintain the passive effects of signets when you activate them.

Piercing arrows isn’t really baseline material, it’s a really strong trait, and I think it’s a good thing that so many marksman traits are good , the point of traits is to have tough, but meaningful choices to make for your build, if only 3 traits were good they’ve failed with their traits….

Honestly, Remorseless should be combined into the Grandmaster minor slot, and Eagle Eye should affect the shortbow and be moved up to the Grandmaster tier. Signet of the Beastmaster shouldn’t even exist, and signet actives should be affecting both the player and the pet inherently. This would open up another Grandmaster slot for x trait.

Probably the best way to move forward.

That’s what I was thinking, especially since they said they want SB range trait to be a grandmaster trait, and let’s be honest, if you’re using a LB and using piercing arrows you’re going to go the full 30 for EE too.

Exactly. Then with the Master tier, people only have to choose between Piercing Arrows or Spotter, which is a reasonable selection to have to make; more single target damage, or hitting more targets.

There’s also Beastmasters Might (an extremely good trait for some builds)and then whatever other one they add, but at least they wouldn’t be stepping on each other’s toes. And I’d consider Spotter more of a support trait than a damage boost (it’s both but you know what I mean).

The issue with multiple “good choices” isnt limited to Marks Master Tier, but also adept tier. Both Keen Edge, Steady Focus and Predators Instinct are good adept traits. Simply put, the whole line, in and of itself is riddled with too many good options, and none of them is better then the other.
It is good to have a decent selection, but opening up for some more interesting play would be very appreciated.

We could go as far as to combine all the current Minor traits into the adept minor. Then make Eagle Eye Grandmaster, Signet of the Beastmaster into Master Minor (proper place for it, if Anet doesnt want to get rid of it), Spotter into GM minor.

I also strongly believe that Skirmishing should have a minor or major trait that improves movement speed while wielding bows.

I think it’s a really good thing that there’s so many good choices, there should NOT be a “this trait is better than the rest” it should always be a difficult choice like it is in the marks (and with some builds skirmishing) that makes build diversity BETTER and makes playing the way you want ( to an extent) a lot more realistic approach and more interesting.

I mean seriously if they weren’t all relatively the same strength why even have traits when some would clearly be better than others?

the problem arises when you got X number of really good traits and Y number of really crap traits.

In the case of marks, the number of Y traits is the majority, and especially the minor traits.
