My understanding of “Increased Monement Speed” is that it does just that: it increases your movement speed. This is identical to “Swiftness” but significantly different to “Quickness” which doubles the speed of all abilities.

Signet of the Hunt’s passive effect is +25% Increased Movement Speed.

I feel obliged to use this in WvW, simply because everyone else is using something similar on top of thei Swiftness (which is simply the same thing). It’s no surprise to see many other Rangers using this Signet.

But I am seeing Rangers equipping this Signet everywhere in PvE. Both in open world and in dungeons. The other night, while running AC on my Guard, I asked why both the Rangers in the group were using it, after both of them got wtfpwnt by Poison. I got no answer from them… because they were the mute types that only say anything when they die. I got an answer from a guild-mate, though, who told me that it increases their damage. This is true – it increases the damage of the pet’s next attack when it is activated but that’s simply not worth a Utility slot. The problem with this is that I never see Rangers activating it. Ever. When I told him that he said that the passive effect increases attack speed. That was news to me. That’s what Quickening Zephyr is for.

Does Signet of the Hunt increase attack speed, or is it simply a misunderstanding on the part of, apparently, nearly every Ranger I’ve seen lately?

I find it difficult to believe that so many Rangers are ignorant, which is probably wishful thinking… Despite the fact most of our skills are borked in one way or another, we do have useful ones. I can only assume that someone started a rumour that it was bugged and that’s why people use it.

It’s no wonder people don’t want Rangers in dungeons. On top of everything else there are Rangers that are actively making themselves worse by using this Signet instead of something useful.

It depends on WHEN you’re using the Signet. If you’re using it to run across fields to help explore them faster, or for running down those spots where you’re trying to reach certain spots while running from mobs in dungeons, it’s a good choice. But if you’re fighting a boss or going to be fighting a large group of enemies, you better be changing that out for something useful.

You can kite alot of bosses and champions using it without them being snared, I know its saved my bacon a few times being able to outrun stuff while pet and others hacked away at it. Plus once you use it for awhile you just feel like a turtle without it, and honestly, if you’re a BM build what other utilities are you going to use? The shouts have huge cd and you’re probably already running the signet of the wild/stone. So I guess you could throw in a random trap or something for your last one but without being specd for them it wouldn’t make much difference. All depends on your gear and spec I suppose.

Odds are that they forgot to swap it out for the dungeon (I’ve done that) and didn’t really notice because unless you’ve traited traps the viable options are almost non-existant.

While I understand other professions find themselves thinking “ kitten I wish I had more utility slots!” For a lot of ranger builds it’s more like “Sigh… I guess I’ll take that?”

Signets: Actives are all pet centric. Pets + Dungeons = Bad times.
Traps: Traited or useless in a Dungeon
Spirits: Hahahaha… No.
Shouts: Hahahaha… No.
Survival: Muddy Terrain is not that useful most of the time. QZ is alright. If you need LR you probably failed at something and if you aren’t condition specced Sharpening Stone is just going to kitten off the condition specced players in a group.

The fact is most of our utilities just aren’t worth a slot in a dungeon and for some builds none of them are really worth a slot in most situations period. We just have 3 slots we have to fill so we do.

Although if they were dying to poison they probably should have had Signet of Renewal slotted but that was already there, well there’s nothing else to be done. Also activating SoR is generally a bad idea because of the 60 second CD. If you get a condition more than once in 60 seconds you want the passive instead.

BM spec here<—- signet of the wild, quickening zephyr, (and sic’em if it wasnt bugged) swapped for flame trap, not speced for flame trap but low cd + high condi ticks = nice damage as a temp replacement..

i can see how signet of the hunt can help kite, apart from that it’s pretty useless..

but if it’s saving your life more often then not, then it’s a hidden gem thats over looked by the “this doesn’t do max dps” type of player.. a dead ranger does 0 dps

They were just nubs – that signet is great in open pve and wvw, a wasted slot in instanced content – except skipping parts of a dungeon, but any sensible person swaps weapons/skills on each room depending on the needs… bads keep the same skill and weapon ( mostly longbow 1500 range ) and afk autoattack everything while watching tv

This is what I thought.

nope it increases your speed all the time, in and out of combat.. thats what makes it useful for kiting.

Signet of the Hunt increases movement speed of both the Ranger and the pet. Since Anet hasn’t fully fixed the issue with melee pets missing moving targets, giving them a speed boost ensures that they’ll land more hits to mobile targets.

I use SoH when in PvE because of that, plus I can roam the maps faster.
