Signet of the Wild improvement?
https://twitter.com/TalathionEQ2
Would like to mention a LOT of ranger use SotW strictly for the passive. Why? It scales well with healing power giving a nice pseudo regen to you and a strong regen to your pet. Few rangers use it for the active because the cooldown is extreme, you can’t stomp targets while in it if you have it traited, and pets still get aoe bombed and cc’d too easily. Personally would like to see the passive stay the same (maybe add granting your pet an additional 90 power?) and the active cd reduced to 60s, add the ability for players to stomp with it active (seriously, one of our two sources of stability and we can’t use it to stomp), and increase the damage buff on it by another 5% (it seems to give 25% bonus so that would mean I would like to see it give 30%).

I think it should still be improved, rangers need a pet survivability love.

While I don’t like the huge recharge, SotW is one of our better signets. It’s part of the reason bunker Rangers are so good right now.
For me to use the active effect of this signet, the cd would have to be lower than 30 seconds. Heck, it would have to be lower than 15 seconds…
I could probably count the number of rangers that use this signet for its active ability on one hand…
It would make sense to get buffed, particularly if boon removal will become as prominant in the meta as a lot of people are expecting. Because now it will be difficult to keep the actual regen boon up is the thought. Let the meta evolve, see where it goes I guess.
Yes, the signets should be buffed a bit just because you won’t have as much regeneration or protection because of boon stealing/punishment.
You will be taking more damage because of all the boons too.

For me the active portion of the signets should always apply to the Ranger; and not the pet. Then have a Master trait that allows active effects to apply to the pet as well.
Also, in my humble opinion the cooldowns on several of our signets should be lowered significantly as they only provide benefits for 40% of our class (that liability we call a pet) and require a 30 point investment in order to affect the actual Ranger.

If your only using it for the passive ablities then your missing out. This signet with sic’em and SotW and traited with signet of beastmaster can result in 23k damage in 3 seconds between you and your pet. The only fix i would make is interaction object while traited.
everyone should fear becoming mentally clouded and obsessed with one small section of truth.
Since all signets are getting buffed, I think Signet of the Wild should get double its healing as well, otherwise it will never find a slot compared to the other options.
It would be a joke if they did not improve the passive healing. Although that tends to be the competency levle of anet..a joke.
I love this, it’s a really good regen for your pet and a decent one for you I never use it’s active not worth it for me to loose the pet survivability for so long for a short burst, maybe I’ll change my mind after this next patch though depending on how much health and armor is given to pets.

Someone asked about that in the SOTG interview and the devs said signet actives are intended to be powerful and used sparingly (situationally), if that helps explain the CD? In any case, I use the active ability more than occasionally. It’s like that extra boost of acceleration you get in your car when you try to pass someone. Ya know what I mean? Popping that is like stepping on the gas.

Powerful passive, the active should be an emergency thing more or less. Heh.

Its only the stats that are gettin buffed.

Yes, please do not get your hopes up.
They specifically said the signets getting a buff are the ones that augment a single stat. So you won’t get double the health back on this. Just like it’d be kitten if Signet of the Hunt granting 50% runspeed, it’s equally reaching to expect SotW to get more HP.
Reduce the cooldowns of SoTW and SoS and SoR to 50-60 seconds.

They said statistics, which could mean healing as well.
Signet of the Hunt already got improved by more then double.

Healing is not a stat. Healing power is a stat, but that signet doesn’t improve that.
To figure otherwise is simply speculation until they clarify. I’d prefer to expect the change to only affect stats and be pleasantly surprised it works on some other non-stat signets rather than expect this signet to heal twice as much and later find out it won’t.
Healing is as close to a stat as Run Speed and I don’t expect them to make all Run speed signets faster than the swiftness boon.
It’s a decent regen right now, It’s not as powerful as say the Thief one in stealth or the Warrior Ones..(Both have higher amount healed) But BM bunker is already pretty powerful, so not sure I could support a buff for SOTW, maybe after the patch i’ll change my mind.. but right now it doesn’t need a passive buff (Its active though needs to allow stomp)

Bunker is getting nerfed because your boons can get stolen/with boon hate you will take more damage.
https://twitter.com/TalathionEQ2
What boons are going to get stolen from me?
My Regen that lasts 5 seconds?
My Protection that lasts 2 seconds when I dodge, Good luck stealing that.
Maybe you could steal my vigor, but I have so much of that it doesn’t matter.
Ranger is probably the only bunker in the game that doesn’t actually rely on Boons all that much.
We’re not like Elementalist and Guardian who stack the crap out of every boon to silly levels.

Ranger is the bunker least reliant on boons though. They have abundant sources or regen + non-boon regen, high passive endurance recover and use evades, mobility and traps to pretty much negate the enemy and their damage.
I think the only boons they might use is protection on dodge and regen…dunno though, I don’t play bunker ranger.
[edit] shouldn’t have went to reheat my coffee >_>

Do we have anything that would count? The toughness one maybe other than that none I can think of.
Toughness one is it, and unless you go 30 in Marksman, you won’t use it.

But I like Ranger signets
Even if they aren’t getting a buff, they are like the only class so far with signets I like to use. The only exception is Warrior’s Signet of Rage pretty much on auto use and Mesmer’s Signet of Inspiration (don’t care about the passive, I just use it on guardian/ele heavy groups) and Signet of Illusions because it’s borked (seriously, 200% illusion HP?…).
For Rangers, I guess I mainly like the actives…take all my conditions, make my pet grow…but some of the passives are good too. I actually didn’t pick up the SotB until 80 which I only did for Signet of Stone.

They just need to make marksman 30 major baseline for ranger signets and have the signets affect both the ranger and pet. As a replacement the new final trait could increase the duration of signet effects or make it so passives are not lost when signets are activated like the elementalist written in stone trait.

I like your thinking and support this idea
Changing the final trait to one that increases signet duration and/or allows the passive to always be up, while the signet effects both the player and pet as a standard feature, might actually make me think twice about using the signets actives and traiting into marksman again.
Signet of the Wild doesn’t really need an improvement other than having it’s active benefit both the player and pet without traiting into it (might actually justify it’s long cool down). It’s passive is fine as is; I use it for it’s passive all the time (almost feel forced to) in order to improve my pets survivability and I don’t even have any healing power from traits and/or gear….
Signet of Stone could definitely use a buff on it’s passive (current cool down for it’s active it’s pretty close to accurate for what it does).
(edited by Sollith.3502)
I think the only thing that is getting buffed from SOTW is the active, since they said they want people to use the signets active instead of just having it for the passive which is exactly what we rangers do with most signets.
Expect improvements in that area, the passive is strong as is.

I like this suggestion very much.
Changing signets so their active effect will always apply to both Ranger and Pet would validate their (sometimes insane) cooldowns. Then changing ‘Signet of the Beastmaster’ to function like Written in Stone would make it a worthy Grandmaster trait in my opinion.

Since all signets are getting buffed, I think Signet of the Wild should get double its healing as well, otherwise it will never find a slot compared to the other options.
It would be a joke if they did not improve the passive healing. Although that tends to be the competency levle of anet..a joke.
It will be overpowered for regen builds if they improve the passive healing. I’m waiting for this to get a buff and then a quick nerf as soon as ANet realized rangers can stack 700+ regen/sec without help from guardian rejuvenation and elementalist soothing mist.

I love signets, particularly for the passives alone. It’s be a dream come true if they removed the actives and buffed the passives adequately enough to compensate.

Point of interest, i can do 700+ regen on my Thief.
Shadow Rejuvenation from the Shadow Arts line is very nasty with Healing Power, with 800 Healing Power I outheal my Ranger with 1100 Healing power easily.

Yeah it’s pretty good regens on thief, but that’s only while you’re stealthed. You can do this with ranger at all times, even while attacking.

Still running my old RRR build because why not
I am still leveling my ranger, but how much health per second should I expect form this signet when using, say, full exotic clerics gear?
I am debating myself if clerics or knights is the way to go for my build (mainly bow specced for running around in WvW and PVE).

About 150 and i think 160s with life sigil.

Well, stealth doesn’t stop you from attacking. Whatever you lost from sustained attack you more than make up with a backstab crit or a mini unload on mainhand pistol stealth opener.
And TBH it’s pretty shoddy design when an aspect of the class is held back because of the single build that can abuse it.
Increase the baseline, and then nerf the runes increasing regen duration and procs of regen.
Other builds should get some good use of the signet without having to invest heavily into healing power or using runes of dwayna and 10 in NM+30 BM and troll Unguent.
Skills should start universally good, and traits/runes make them better. Not start crap and only become great with heavy gear/trait investment.
About 150 and i think 160s with life sigil.
Thanks! Would it be worth it to go for clerics gear over knights do you think?
- Charles Fort
I prefer cleric over knight if you’re going with a power build for pvp. For pve, knight is obviously better.
The way the ranger’s designed you’ll need some form of regen to compensate for the lack of teleports or immunities or immediate burst. The ranger is more of a backloaded character so stats that let you ramp up your damage by staying alive are better.

Interesting, thanks!
I just test a masterwork cleric set in WvWvW, and I did manage to stay alive a bit longer now than previously. Only level 67 now, but it worked out to 115 regen per second. Just enough to manage to hold out long enough in other AOE fields and with hostile conditions.
Next step I guess I will take the 2 second protection on dodge skill for even more safety.
