Signet rangers?
Most likely standard zerker build
everyone should fear becoming mentally clouded and obsessed with one small section of truth.
If we had a signet heal and elite, they would be a great build, but I find that there is not a lot of synergy with our traits and signets or runes because of their long CD.
The cd isn’t really a problem as you are in 1 to 2 engagements pet minute.
Singet of the hunt use mainly for the speed boost ( you can make this up with weapon sets) Rarely used for the damage bonus.
Sos = give zerker the extra need toughness but more than that 6 sec of invulnerability
SoR = much needed condi cleanse but its not going to save you on its own.
Soth= The passive is laughable but does stack with with other regen and can’t be ripped. The active boost damage to you and your pet granting a speed boost making making it possible for a zerker to not only down a target quickly but allowing you to finish him with the use of stability. Making a 2v3 a lot more winnable.
When on a team with a lot of power rangers the outcome is often decided by how well the rangers finish, downing alone doenst mean anything.

If i roam i use hunt and stone. Because of the number of thieves and mesmers i use sick em
Just the WvW

If we got a signet heal and an elite signet, then we could have a really nice signet build, like we will with Survival/Trap/shout skills after the patch, but they provide little synergy when you take 3 of them. If you could have 4 or 5, it would be a lot better.
Honestly, I wish they would just dump Water/Nature spirit and make them
Water Signet; Passive: You and your pet are healed for X health when you attack. Active: You and your pet are healed for X health. Xs CD
Nature Signet; Passive: Your pet gains +X to all attributes. Active: You and your allies are healed for X and gain Xs of Resistance per second. Xs duration. Xs CD.
Edit: I’ll make a new topic about that…

Yeah I figure Stone is usually a given in zerker builds, and hunt is used a lot for WvW. I use a mix of hunt and stone when I roam in WvW, but usually swap hunt out for something else right before I engage in combat.
But I think taking up the last slot with another signet is a bit too much, and even if you run signet mastery, I feel there are better options out there. Which is why I found it so confusing to see people running with 3 signets in sPvP, WvW and in PvE!
From random people in the PvP lobby, to even the Anet Dev doing dungeons. I’m just wondering if they had some sort of special build made around signets that they found worked better than the meta builds.
Signet frontline WvW ranger
Frontline waterfield lasts 10sec!!
Roots split up enemies for damage spikes or RaO for long stability
Stability, invulnerability, group-condi-cleanse on signets active
evade/burst/leap/block/stun on gs
might/frost/blast on a/h
poison field (murrelow) and blast (riverdrake) as pet
tanky armor (soldier/knight/berserk) but still good damage (frontline AOE)
In my opinion this build has the same support, damage and survival as a meta-warrior or meta-guard. I know that eles supply the waterfield in meta. But they too often get too busy surviving to provide a proper waterfield. The frontline ranger can provide and blast it right where it is needed.
How I love people in WvW underestimating rangers and think in their little boxes about the guy with the longbow ^^

@Oak da Vite
Currently, Frontline Ranger does not have the damage in addition to the support you mentioned (unlike guardians or Eles).
Also, they are awful at recovering back up (unlike guardians or Eles).
That of course is going to change in HoT.
But at the moment of speaking, we are a weak derivation of their function(ality).
i run triple signet in PvE and often in WvW. Signet of the Hunt is for the speed boost, though ill sometimes use it if im in the middle of the battle since there really isnt a reason not to use it (you dont get the speed boost when you’re in combat, and pets keep you in combat). Signet of Stone is for the 6 seconds of invuln, not much else to say here. Signet of Renewal is for those pesky conditions that always seem to be nearby. Its the only way to get rid of them with my build. Also take Heal as One and Rampage as One. I will sometimes replace SoR with sic em if thieves are especially pesky in WvW. In PvP, i drop the SotH for sic em because most maps are too small to need to run really fast in.
I use soldier LB (force/accuracy) with 4 soldier armor pieces and 2 assassin armor pieces (Pack runes). Trinkets are 1 soldier ring, 1 zerk ring, zerk backpiece, soldier amulet and i want to say 2 soldier accessories but i cant really remember for sure on those. I will likely change my force sigil to Air since my crit rate went up by 10 when i changed from the scrub build i was using before to a 66002 that im using now.
I doubt it sounds impressive or anything, but it does what i want it to and i can survive most of what i encounter.

SotH does give you a speed boost even in combat, it’s just offset by the movement penalty. Without SotH you run even slower.
Without +25% the game just feels so SLOW. I wish they would remove all the +25% passives and give +25% base to every class, then only have swiftness and superspeed as the speed buffs.
If I remember right, they intended combat speed to be the default speed setting, but players said it was too slow when walking around, like from waypoint to waypoint. So now we have out-of-combat.
Wow, that would be terrible. I’m all for them just giving +25% to everyone and removing all the traits/skills.
I run three signets in PvP, almost always with some sort of beastmaster build. Wild for stability, huge beast damage buff (my direct damage isn’t anything special) and the speed boost to run away when needed. Hunt for me and the pet (you can time the active hunt for certain pets too) and stone for obvious reasons
Not sure, 3 signets seems a bit of an overkill. I think Wild is a must have for most builds. Required for stomping and those clutch moments when you need stability and small dmg burst.

Actually, it’s the most comfortable build for WvW.
You get access to Movement (key mechanic), to survivability and possible burst/ AoE condi cleanse.
Those are not wrong choices at all.
Sacrificing a utility slot for signet is a big deal. You might as well want to squeeze everything from it if possible and build accordingly.
I can never justify taking the 3rd signet over LR, then since I have Entangle and LR, I want SoTF, so I end up dropping SoTH for MT and having only SoTW. Then I can’t justify having a signet trait for a single skill… lol.
After the changes, I think I’ll be running TU, LR, SoTW, SoS, Entangle with SoTF and BMight.

I ran this in pvp the last 2 weeks :
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fNAQNAsXRjMqUxaDL+rw1aA/AZZjAtvFrmzqBLY1B-TJBBwAAOFA12focZAIPBAA
its a melee build, i had a lot of fun with it. The main combo i used was this :
pop signet of the wild(25% damage boost plus might), axe 4 to pull enemy, greatsword 5 to daze and give pet extra damage boost, Pet(bird) F2 and Greatsword 2 skill.
Ppl didnt seem to expect this combo, so i got some very funny moments with this.
THe mobility makes you very survivable aswell.
I didnt do any math and i dont know its really any good, but i had fun with it.
SoTW, Entangle, PoS, Hilt Bash, Maul is a crazy good combo if you can pull it off. But with the Strength Runes, RaO is better in that slot. Nice build though, looks good and fun to play.

To each his own, you can certainly make it work. With this, one must find another method to clear conditions, break cc, reposition, etc.

Three sigs also works well with the Nature Magic power ranger.
Umm, survival power ranger, that is.

How is it survival without survival skills? Maybe after the patch, but that will still only be TU and Entangle.

Both Signet of Renewal and Signet of Stone are clear survival signets. I don’t really see your point. Empathic bond still works well, just as off-hand training and Shared Anguish.
I don’t see a single problem with Survival Signet Ranger here.
slotting 3 signets never made sense to me. as a general rule, when I see a ranger with 3 signets, I know hes a bad (or new player). so don’t do it.
for both condi and power builds, LR is better than a third signet due to its low CD. running with only one stun breaker is no fun. also on power builds, SoTW isn’t as important. you already do enough damage and while the stab is nice, LR is still better. ive learned to play without SoS and only slot it as an exception, e.g. when there are two good thieves and a medi guard on a team.
as a general guideline:
condi: SoR, SoTW, LR (SoS instead of SoTW in rare situations)
power: SoS, SoR, LR
again, the main reason u want LR is you need two stun breakers. in the expansion, LR and TU will be even stronger when we pick up Wilderness Knowledge, and along with the mandatory entangle, we’ll have virtually unlimited condi cleansing and fury.

Signets are signets and survival skills are survival skills. When referring to a survival Ranger, its pretty well accepted that you mean survival skills. Use some other term, like sustain to describe other skills otherwise it just creates problematic semantics.
Nothing wrong with using signets and EB. Works just fine.
BTW: Just found out today reading Dulfy that fury on survival skills will be baseline and not part of WK.

I meant the 626 build that includes a longbow, not the “survival” set of skills. Contrast with the 662 or 60260 power ranger builds.
A friend I often duo roam with in WvW has been running 62600 with Longbow/Greatsword for as long as I’ve known her. It’s a solid build in good hands.

Ahh, copy that, understood!

Disagree.
I run 3 signets in a melee ranger build like so in pvp:-

This build was first introduced to me by Potato on Twitch.
I swap signet of stone for lightning reflexes in WVW.
The build works. Does a crap tonne of damage, has a lot of sustain and with Emphatic Bond, condis usually aren’t an issue.
Here’s the same build in action in WVW by potato himself. His other video’s explain the build.
You can potentially 1-shot glassy low hp classes with Longbow AA if you pop SoH and SotW for your first shot.
Its more of a gimmicky fun build
Doesn’t every “meta” ranger build run at least 2 signets?
Am I good?… I’m good.
I’ve never seen anything wrong with Signet builds. I’ve just never felt inclined to play one. I think there was a build posted with a gameplay video in the past week or so of a dual melee ranger that was using a Might-stacking Signet build in WvW to good effect. I apologize for not being able to remember more than that though :-( … I think it was posted during part of a discussion about OH Axe and people disagreeing on how good/bad Path of Scars is.

That would have been GW Fox on YouTube
sPvP I run an all signet build, and I’ve not seen anyone else with a build similar—granted, you can’t inspect builds, so can’t be sure.
Anyway, the build provides solid speed, excellent toughness, good regeneration with an option to condi. cleanse, and medium damage output. Hence, it’s great for running point to point, surviving some heavy damage, rezzing in the thick of it, and putting some pressure on targets in a group fight.
Signet of the hunt, Signet of the wild/Signet of renewal, Signet of stone.
The signets give speed, 150% damage once (nice for Maul), perma regen, stability, toughness and invincibility.

Pure Heart, you can inspect builds in sPvP.
Be an observer and click on someone in sPvP. You can then bring up their weapons, sigils, runes, trait points, and amulet … everything you see when you are setting your own PvP build.
