Skipping in Dungeons
Did you ever play a “Taxi” Assassin or Dervish in GW1? …or atleast a Running-Warrior?
IMO, Ranger is closer to those than Guardian ever will be for running…
My Guardian (atleast in Arah)‘s only real advantage in Running is being able to Drop a reflect wall while moving. That’s about it IMO. Stand your Ground doesn’t last as long as R.A.O. and having to stop to cycle Renew, just gives them more time to catch up. …. with Ranger though, if your pet’s traited 30% faster you can actually use it run ahead of you and take aggro first if you have “perfect micro skills” (or we could if Anet just gave us a stupid GoTo command that doesn’t require a Util slot, and actually worked EVERY time)
.
It could also just be a Team Synergy issue. IMO, there’s nothing in this game yet that a Guardian and Ranger working together shouldn’t be able to run past…. this includes that part in Path3 that you usually need to get behind the Golem for.

actually my build does have it in skirmish, i usually go for bleeding on crit, but the idea to send pet ahead does sound a good one, switch pet’s near death, rinse repeat… maybe a couple of bears or devours…
cool thanks
PS: btw i even used ranger to do a few runs, nothing like “professional taxi to Droknar” but just to say, a couple skills in expertise plus storm chaser… yeah good times, somehow i’m not really couping with that on gw2.

Gotta know when to anticipate the Dodges forward by reading the “delay” of the projectiles coming from behind you … again, something that staying calm under mass aggro in GW1 running helped tons with. :\
Kinda wish he had a rear view mirror @ times like this, lol

You can bind a key to “Look Behind” for an instant rear view.
I don’t have much direct experience with Guardian per se’.
But of the classes I have played generally speaking there seems to be different defensive styles. There are classes and specs that can square their shoulders, lower their heads and plod forward at a steady pace cloaked in an armor of buffs or shrugging off the pain with blocks, cleanses and stunbreakers. Then there’s the classes and specs that are nimble, focusing on position and avoidance and either leaving the battlefield a hornet’s nest of angry mobs behind their flapping coattails with nary a scratch, or making the gauntlet of mobs in front of them knee deep in a particle effects soup so thick attacks or attackers are kept at bay.
So I guess I’m saying; Less Quarterback, More Ninja/Manipulator.
Going Ninja for a Ranger requires staying ahead of the pack and avoiding the combat state entirely with good dodging, good blocking, and good use of evade skills along with timing your leaps to propel you past clusters of mobs (instead of towards them) before they technically strike you. Going Manipulator for Ranger involves voluntarily going into combat and works best when you’re being proactive on the AOE snares, and pet distraction tactics. Meshing the two styles together has mixed results, so my general advice to you would be to choose one way and go whole hog with it.
