Add another smokescale that has smoke field F2! Wouldn’t even need the unrelenting assault to be honest. Doesn’t even matter what it is. Just a smoke field!

This solution would make both camps happy, but it’s unlikely given certain programming issues I’ve heard about with ANet. Still, it is a good suggestion.

I was thinking that smokescale could be the “new” pet that has the smoke field and low damage and the current smokecale could be just copied over for the new pet called XYZscale (couldn’t come up with a name in 3 days).

There are times where smoke assault is amazing on the F2. There are times when smoke cloud is amazing not on the F2. That being said, it’s more amazing to have smoke cloud on the F2. I just SOO wish we could control all of our pet skills.

This. Although I don’t think there is a real need to control the AA or skill #2. Some pets would need the #2 & #3 swapped around though. Cannot see why F1 is not a flip that also performs the function of F3, then F3 would be available to control a pet skill.

Skelks! They exist in core Tyria, they’re tamable according to lore (there was that Char heart quest thing). And they also vanish in stealth. They could totally make them drop a smokefield. The fact that they also teleport is a bonus.

Yeah, I know hoping for a second pet is dreaming, but it seems more plausible than them going around to fix ranger pet UI that they’ve ignored for the past x years. Also changing UI takes more work than adding a new pet, and at this point things might’ve changed to the point that they can’t mess with it anymore.

A Skelk with a smoke field would be great.

Also, a group of bats like the Nightfury animation would be pretty epic. Also, Pocket Raptors.

I’d love this, perhaps different colourings/subspecies of smokescales, like the drakes?

I really like having the attack on f2, since you can control what to burst down with it. But at the same time having a controllable smoke field is awesome as well.

If there WERE a variant of the Smokescale, 99% chance it wouldn’t just swap one of the active and passive skills of the pet. Would be out of line with every other pet in the game. Instead, what we’d likely get is one that still has Smoke Field as a passive ability, and then loses Smoke Assault for something else altogether.

Unless they removed Smoke Field from the passive abilities, gave both pets a new passive family ability, and gave Smoke Field as the F2 for a new pet.

Either way, someone is going to lose something in the process if they keep the pets in line with all other families in the game.

Didn’t see this thread, but suggested something similar in the other one.

In order to have a smokescale family, there would need to be a 3rd familial skill added to the two varieties of smokescale. Based on the skills available to the smokescale mob, Shadowstep would make an obvious choice for the 3rd family skill. Alternatively, if they were to be rebranded the Smoke Skale, then regeneration would make the most sense.

e.g.
- Rename the pet to XXX Smokescale (where XXX is a sub type)
- Restore Smoke Cloud to F2
- Remove Smoke Assault skill and replace it with Shadow Step
- Add some damage or cc to the pulses of the Smoke Cloud
- XXX Smokescale now has Bite, Takedown, Shadow Step and Smoke Cloud
- Add a new YYY Smokescale family pet (where YYY is a sub type)
- Put Smoke Assault on F2
- YYY Smokescale has Bite, Takedown, Shadow Step and Smoke Assault
