So anet you don`t want to remove the pets ?
pets are totally broken. Everyone knows that.
If you defend the pet system you must be a warrior and not a ranger.
Shame on you man.
ANET FIX RANGER
No such thing as pathing or anything. That’s info out of thin air. The pet might wait a bit before jumping (like wolf), because he’s chanelling a skill (leap). Traiting Agility Training help a whole lot on both WvW and PvP, if you want the pet to be of some kind of help.
The pet pathing is a problem, or an annoyance rahter. Like with all other AI in this game. I personally never cared for the pet as a class mechanic (massive reliance of AIs shouldn’t be a forced class mechanic in the first place imo), but I rarely have any problems with it.
That being said, the very fact that the ranger is the only class in the game where you have to invest traits and do some niche tricks in order to straight out some of the big flaws with the class’ very own mechanic isn’t all that fair.
The pet worked in GW1 because the fights were much more stationary. That isn’t the case in GW2. They should have worked out those problems before even thinking of adding pets to a game revolved around combat movement.
Edit: and they NEED to add some kind of controll to the pets usage of skills. Like being able to disable skills with an annoying animation that doesn’t do you any good. cough quickening screech cough

Wait, because you have to invest in a build to make pets worthwhile, it means that they are broken? But if you aren’t investing into your pet, then you probably don’t care that much for it, and aren’t relying on it other than a little bit of extra DPS, and maybe the F2 skill.
It’s not that pets are broken, it’s just that I don’t see many people taking the time to use them. Most people like the pew pew power ranger build, and will take a couple of pets to hold people down so they can unload with RF.
I started looking at some of the “less popular pets” and have actually found some really cool things they can do. Right now my favorite is the pig. It has a knockdown on auto attack, AND the F2 allows you to find healing items, including an elixer of heroes. (a few seconds of invuln.) Granted anyone can pick those up, but I’ve found in PvP and WvW (small group roaming) that many people don’t even bother looking at those things, let alone pick them up.
No, pets aren’t broke, its just not many people take the time to fully exploit them, and use them to their full potential.
It’s the chain I beat you with until you
recognize my command!”

kitten . Don’t put words in my mouth and then follow up with a wall of text arguing against those words. Jeez, I even started of my comment stating I rarely have any problems with pets.
I never said you need to invest in a build to make the pet worthwhile. I actively use the pet ALL THE TIME. You would be a fool not to. I did however said that it is unfortunate that rangers have to work around some obvious FLAWS with how the pet mechanic works.
It isn’t perfect. The mechanic as a whole needs some work. And it doesn’t feel as fleshed out as it could (and should) have been.

2k total playtime, 1.8 on ranger. Yeah I’m a warrior!
Yeah, I defend the pet system, because I’m not a little crying baby. I log-in and learn how to play instead. Seems hard for many people.
I agree with Kaybosh. The pet is a problem. A problem in many ways. Stands in your line of sight in jumping puzzle. Destroys Achievement or boss mechanics (Scarlet boss fight or marionette). Shows everybody where you are, while in stealth. Slow you by getting involved in fights.
It is a BIG problem all the time. So the minimum must be to stow the pet permanent to evade the problem. We don’t need a buff for this. To stow the pet is in many situations buff enough.
