Over the screams of my enemies as my Jaguar rips them to shreds. So they nerfed maul on cats and jags F2. Who cares my pet still perma crits in stealth and maul is once every 20 secs. I didnt have any problem killing 2 thiefs at once last night and 1v1s were still a pushover (the patch didnt magically make people good).
All the patch did is exactly what the first patch did to elementalist when they tried to nerf bunkers. Slap on the hand on their suposed target build while doing more damage to the other less viable builds. Before the patch we had more options on our pets. Now our only option for dps is cats since birds got neutered hard and drakes got hit with an A-Bomb.
Ill be suprised if this is the end of the nerfing to BM builds.
Edit: In case you are wondering im still running my BM Hybrid 0/15/20/15/20 Cleric Power Build. Pretty much the same thing as in my last video.

Very offensive indeed. Basically you are saying that the many voices on the ranger forum are all delusional unskilled players who just happen to be cry babies. Good job making yourself look so pro. Is it your intention to make the rangers stay in the weak state they are in right now, compared to other classes? Do you even main as a ranger?
I dont think thats what he is saying at all. he was just letting people that were previously playing a BM bunker that it is still a viable choice.
this patch has the ranger community in an uproar..and in all reality..it took me 20min to discover a new build that is even better then pre patch.
for those who have a Chub for Short Bow, this is a small setback. so its time to think outside the box. find new ways to close and open gaps..new ways to snare and root..pull..push ect.
We can figure this out..together!

Hey Jaxx, I would love to agree with you. And while you were able to search for your perfect build, can you tell me with all honestly that rangers weren’t hit hard by this patch? You are not disappointed at all in some of our traits that go unnoticed? I mean, what kind of purpose would a trait that creates a healing spring on death have? If my pet is my other half of my damage… why the uncompensated nerf? Why did the vigor regeneration trait be moved to a grand master trait?
Puandro, I know you like your clerics but you should seriously consider getting a few knight’s pieces, maintenance oil and adding 5points in skirmishing to pick up companion’s might, this trait totally kicks kitten now, try it I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised just how good it now is.
yeah…i feel you on all the “on death” stuff…it seems to me that some kittened dev thought it would be great to have a class that has a ton of “downed utility”…
But alas..the only downs i see is the down syndrome from the Ranger dev in these regards.
lol hopefully that crap gets removed and changed soon…because im in complete agreement in this regard..
“You guys are whining because you are not pros like me. My build is awesome and the way you guys like to play is bad, and you should feel bad”
In the light of the explanations posted after my post, I’m editing it.
Alright, I get what you meant, now. It’s good that you found an alternative. I’m not changing my build right now because I’m afraid of spending even more money on new equipment just to have yet another build nerfed in the future, though.

Don’t give a flying fark about pvp and WvW. PVE and Dungeons are all about DPS. We got an overall reduction in our DpS. I really wish they would have buffed our base stats so my team wouldn’t have to carry me if I bring my ranger into a dungeon.
Thy really really need to split EVERYTHING from pvp, WvW, and PVE.
I can see the rage still strong with most people here (and rightly so). All im saying is that if you ran some sort BM build its still viable, you just have less pet options which sucks. I dont use SB but my friend who played Ranger since Beta uses it and while the range nerf sucks he is still killing ppl NP solo. He had to swap to cats from birds though.
As for cookie cutter build, no i dont run one but if i did i dont care i play whats fun regardless of what other people play.
If you like the ranger its still fun and competitive but now you have less options, welcome to the nerf club along with elementalists.
I like running dungeons and I like running a ranger. Unfortunately those two don’t go together very well.

Yah they havent since Beta. Apperently they are afraid of making Ranger pets OP in dungeons while they let guards mesmers and warriors run the Meta.

My only option is to go lower than 20 points in wilderness and im not willing to drop my sword cooldowns for 4-5 stacks of might on average. Maybe less.

Nah, he is saying that in anet’s effort to nerf BM builds, they ended up hurting non BM builds more than they did BM due to the fact that non BM builds generally have very little or no points in Beastmastery, meaning that some of the pets nerfs or more apparent in pets when you have no points in BM.

It’s just a tip that the trait is pretty darn good seeing that you are boonstacking your pet already this would only increase your damage by alot at the cost of a tiny fraction in regen and of course your sword cd I suppose.
The trait has no internal cd you stack it alot higher than 4-5 in most cases, warhorn for example makes it work just like a little version of RaO etc, I find it’s well worth it and my cat is doing more damage than ever but then I am not running double swords like you so I can see why you want that.

This post is a little poorly phrased, Puandro :p I don’t think you’re bringing the message across that you intended to. That aside, your videos are what got me into WvW roaming on my ranger and I love the mobile playstyle. I haven’t had the chance to test it yet since the update, so I’m glad it still works =) Are you going to try 30 NM for the shout trait?

Old one had ICD so i assumed they kept buy. TBH i didnt get much time to test everything yesterday. Tested cats drakes birds. Had to make a new warrior PvE build. Had to update my excel sheet with all the traits and changes from the patch also and i was low on time so i went out to WvW for an hour or so.
Ill have to look at it but i have to drop 5 points from somewhere. Cant go below 15 NM. If i drop my sword CD its going to suck. I had 25 BM for extra power but the sword CD actually makes it easier to kill ppl due to higher uptime on Poison and gap closers. I would prob drop some BM but that would lower my damage, how much i dont know since im not on my computer to plug in the numbers.

I dont run speed signet and i have perma swiftness for me and my pet as it is. About 85%-90% uptime on Regen.

I can’t imagine the old one had an icd that would be madness seeing it was only a 1s buff then, regardless you can always go to the mists just to see how it stacks up and so, even if you don’t change anything in your normal spec now.

Rampagers amulet. Max crit chance and using axe #5. ICD was 1 second it seemed. I have 11% crit chance and perma fury so 31%. 5 more points into skimishing thats 2.5% crit chance. Add crit pot instead of power and i should be touching 40%. Maybe that high it would be worth using omnom pies instead of mango.
Like i said earlier though i just dont want to give up sword CDs due to the gap closers and uptime on poison and i dont see myself giving up shout cds for sic em since its down to 32 secs which syncs up with stealth on jag at 30 secs. Also i still run Masters Bond as much as people think it sucks :p.

Not making excuses for them. I said they are going down the same path as elementalist when they keep trying to nerf the bunker build but instead they keep nerfing other builds more than the bunkers because their ability to nerf something without affecting another is freaking crap, they seem to have their head up their kitten .

I use circle of life in havoc because I’m the healer. I try to get aggro and I try to take pressure off my team mates in our small roaming squad. In the event I get focused down, I still heal my allies. By the way, the extra healing spring appears when you down not when you die. So it’s actually really good. In small fights—especially tpvp—downing a player is only half the battle. Stomping and resurrection plays a huge part in the meta.
How many professions immediately penalize your team for downing them? Circle of life, hakuna matata, it’s a wonderful phrase.
Expand your mind, consider the team dynamic. You’re a ranger but you don’t have to be alone anymore. Rangers got a massive buff and a few more excellent builds to work with. The wilderness survival/beastmastery ball and chain is gone. Now bears are something worth taking (they got no damage nerf at all). ANET dealt with several problems at once using traits that already exist while giving us a new grandmaster that’s also obscene for wvw in nature’s voice in havoc. No need to waste air fields or blasts anymore, save them for battle.
Finally: natural vigor is still 5 points in WS and still one of the best 5 point traits in the game. Engi’s have to spend 30 and take a grandmaster for the exact same thing. I’m pretty sure you’re thinking of zephyr’s speed.
(edited by Chopps.5047)
I’m leaving the class because I can’t be the Beast Master that I always loved to be…
I don’t want to command spirits to heal and buff allies, I want to command my pets to rip my enemies faces off!!!
I always hated this Spirit concept, I can’t stand it! I want to be the Pet Ranger who walks in the forests killing from afar while my pet hold the enemies with his fangs!!!
And I don’t give a kitten about PvP, seriously… I love PvE

Is it 1s? perhaps you’re right, I was thinking none cause I have racked up 20+ mightstacks with hunter’s call and sword alone so I assumed there was none
I can definetly see you wanting the sword cd though, I first thought you had 25bm though cause I was looking at your video and was thinking dropping those 5 for skirmishing, thought it seemed worthy to point out seeing you already have the setup for it with only a few alterations if you decide to try a higher crit spec later it’s defiently a must have I can say that.
Masters bond is fantastic even though I don’t use it, but it’s actually gained in value now as I see it because there’s no longer any reason to petswap for quickness burst with a fresh cat so I think I will actually take it now that you reminded me of it.

Yes it was 1 second, was never able to get more than 1 might on pet. Also sword gives might to pet, 1 per target hit so keep that in mind when testing.
Edit: Yes i used to be 25 BM but after the vid i dropped to 20 to pick up 20 WS to get my sword CD reduction.

I read this and I can’t help but think “Chopps is obviously thinking from a WvW/PVP point of view. That is the only reason that he could possibly not see the overall damage nerf with the Ranger. Or he is just the eternal optimist and refuses to see anything that he precieves as negative.” Cause when DPS is king in 99.99% of PVE/Dungeons, this patch was not a good thing. I really see it the made other things better by brining something’s down.

Try 30/25/0/15/0 for fortifying bond or else 30/30/0/0/10 for master’s bond. Of course, 20/20/0/0/30 is even stronger pet-wise but don’t take master’s bond with that setup. I’m also primarily a pve ranger fwiw.

Ranger DPS is higher in dungeons now due to:
1) piercing arrows
2) insane buff to companion’s might that we got
3) high crit chance
Which leads to almost instant 25 stack might on pets. I think maneck described it as always on rampage as one for the pet. And it basically is. It’s sick. I’m still use drake and that drake is now a cold blooded killer. Have you lightening breathed a boss with 25 stack might from crit’ing adds? You can visually see the health bar drop faster. It’s nuts.
See my Mighty Ranger High Level FOTM thread for more information.

Expand my mind? I thank you for trying to clarify my blindness regarding the recent nerf for the ranger, and Im all for trying new things. However, you need to keep in mind that not all rangers are alike. Some like to fight with some weapons more than others. My style may be completely different than yours, and still doesn’t mean Im any less professional at my class than you are. I spent many days just figuring out MY perfect build. I wanted to depend on my pet, waaay before I even knew what the term “bunker build” meant. So it affects me, and others, more than to you.
Can you in all seriousness say that this was an actual buff instead of a break? I already know the healing spring activates on down, not dead, but makes little to no difference. There are traits in there that are practically useless in PVE, even you must recognize that. While the ranger skill level must be high in order to use them effectively (that doesn’t bother me) it makes me real mad that it takes half the effort for other classes to actually succeed and be useful in a party T_T.

Puandro, I know you like your clerics but you should seriously consider getting a few knight’s pieces, maintenance oil and adding 5points in skirmishing to pick up companion’s might, this trait totally kicks kitten now, try it I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised just how good it now is.
My only option is to go lower than 20 points in wilderness and im not willing to drop my sword cooldowns for 4-5 stacks of might on average. Maybe less.
I can’t imagine the old one had an icd that would be madness seeing it was only a 1s nuff then, regardless you can always go to the mists just to see how it stacks up and so, even if you don’t change anything in your normal spec now.
Is it 1s? perhaps you’re right, I was thinking none cause I have racked up 20+ mightstacks with hunter’s call and sword alone so I assumed there was none
More than 1might per second you mean right? I know sword also gives btw it was still 20+ stacks and I don’t think sword can give more than 3-4 on it’s own.
Edit: I just tested it on a golem using nothing but hunter’s call companion’s might absolutely does not have an icd now.

Cool, will check it out once im home.
I’m finding that Birds are outdamaging Cats by quite a bit.
Bird double hit for almost 2k, Cats are hitting for less then 800 on his auto attack (i’m 99% sure that they nerfed the Cat Auto attack, it use to hit much harder from what I remember)
Yeah, definitely. I was testing a Jag combo and getting around 2400 crit on a specific move. After the patch, I was getting about 1800 crit on that same move, so it seems to be around a 25% nerf give or take.
I think its Bite or something that still hits fairly hard, but Maul and the Auto Attack are just awful.
This is the most insulting thread in the entire forums.
Here is what you sound like
“So what if if they did massive nerfs to the weakest class in the game and killed all of our builds while only adding tidbits here and there, stop being cry babies and be pro like me and only play PvP/WvWvW with this cookie cutter build that is even more cookie cutter because you no longer have a pet choice’.
WEAKEST CLASS IN THE GAME??? Umm… have you met engineers, thieves, necromancer and hell even eles? And weak in what context exactly? Here are the aspects of the game,
Open World PvE: Ranger have always owned this playing field. I can do stuff on my ranger that I can only dream off on my engi, thief, ele, necro. None of the changes will make rangers any less effective in open world PvE. Including shortbow range nerf.
Dungeon PvE: Rangers have some issues but please go ask a thief how much love they get in dungeons or even a necro or engineer.
WvW: I just spent the last hour and a half (on engi and necro) watching rangers still own in WvW. So you will not convince me one bit that rangers somehow are no longer viable in WvW
sPvP/tPvP: I don’t sPvP much so I don’t know what the scene is like but I do know that I saw ZERO warriors during the Twitch TV broadcast of the tPvP tournaments a while back. But there were some rangers. Maybe the changes will bring more ranger or less rangers, I don’t know. But I very much doubt rangers are going to disappear from sPvP.
In conclusion, weakest class in-game my kitten The title of kick-kitten class will always belong to Guardians who do well in open world PvE, dungeons, WvW and sPvP. But rangers are far, FAR from the weakest class in any aspect of the game.
I think its Bite or something that still hits fairly hard, but Maul and the Auto Attack are just awful.
Cat Auto hits as hard as it used to be. I dont eyeball damage i actually wrote down the coefficient. Bird Auto hits twice every 2.6 seconds. Cat Auto hits once every 1.2 seconds. They do the same dps over time.
When cats use Bite their DPS goes up.
When birds use swoop their dps goes down since it does less damage then their auto attack now.
Cats Maul got nerfed but its still better than their Auto.
When birds use their swiftness they stand still for far too long and let the enemy move away too easy. Birds overall do less dps than cats.
You can keep believing birds are better by eyeballing damage but you are mistaken.

The damage feels less on their auto… I remember fairly consistent 2k hits with auto attack on crit.
But yea, Bird Swoop still is as lame as ever.
I just know I’ve been hitting for a bout 1.9k on their auto attack on crits (that’s per hit) and the Cat isn’t getting anywhere near that. But yea…I can see Birds doing less damage over time just cause of swoop alone.

Cats auto damage hasnt changed. You play Ranger much longer than me but i use cats exclusively and i know from a “feel” point of view and from a testing point of view its exactly the same.

Just stop watched a couple pets to get an idea on it.
Cats do kill quicker then Birds entirely because of Swoop, Otherwise i’m pretty sure they’d kill at equal speeds (birds hit harder, but cats hit faster) Course this has always been the case cause Swoop is awful.
Dogs/Spiders/Drakes kill at about the same speed.
Pigs kill a bit slower, Devourer’s are just awful….Even slower then pigs, I didn’t even bother with Moa’s/Bears

I actually haven’t even tried bird now, they must be better than before though that’s for sure, I still doubt I could take all the downtime they have flippin and floppin.
Cat’s auto is exactly the same for me, bout 1200crit on the heavy golem without any extra buffs unless my memory fails me now.

I still like devourers best in water though, they do more consistent damage especially on moving targets something the shark and other pets do not plus they have good F2s there, shame they just did a flat 20% damage nerf of them because of how they behave in water (faster attack speed) the logical way would be to reduce water attack speed to match that on land to me cause this way it just makes them totally unusable on land.
@Puandro
Care to post the math on the DPS? And a video if you can. So we can finally get some solid evidence that Feline based BM builds aren’t dead.

Definetly not dead but one thing though, it’s way harder to finish some people off in spvp petswap quickness gone and maul nerf was huge for that but it still works though it’s not like that was everything but some classes that used to be fairly easy to finish fast this way like thieves can be increadibly annoying now (even more now if that is possible when it comes to thieves)
(edited by Manekk.6981)
I dont think thats what he is saying at all. he was just letting people that were previously playing a BM bunker that it is still a viable choice.
this patch has the ranger community in an uproar..and in all reality..it took me 20min to discover a new build that is even better then pre patch.
for those who have a Chub for Short Bow, this is a small setback. so its time to think outside the box. find new ways to close and open gaps..new ways to snare and root..pull..push ect.
We can figure this out..together!
Jaxx
Hey Jaxx, I would love to agree with you. And while you were able to search for your perfect build, can you tell me with all honestly that rangers weren’t hit hard by this patch? You are not disappointed at all in some of our traits that go unnoticed? I mean, what kind of purpose would a trait that creates a healing spring on death have? If my pet is my other half of my damage… why the uncompensated nerf? Why did the vigor regeneration trait be moved to a grand master trait?
Ranger DPS is higher in dungeons now due to:
1) piercing arrows
2) insane buff to companion’s might that we got
3) high crit chanceWhich leads to almost instant 25 stack might on pets.
I don’t want to play a Beastmaster. I want to play a ranger. A DPS ranger at that. It’s sad that the highest DPS build I have used is built around buffing the crap out of cats. When my main damage source relies on a broken AI that is a red flag to me. Sadly, I didn’t read up before I picked the class and just have into the hope that eventually the pet would be able to be perma-stowed and ranger buffed. Sadly, I’ve given up that hope. It takes a lot longer to kill things with my bows than my swords. Can’t call the pet back to a safe distance if I’m right there meleeing. I’m tired of working around a broken mechanic (and until it can dodge an aoe attack it will remain in the broken status). Why should I have to work twice to four times as kitten my ranger than I do on my warrior to get the same reward? It will always be this way until the PVE/dungeon mechanic of DPS is king is no longer the core.
One thing is true: RNG loves my ranger. Two precursors in two months from the forge? Nah. I will keep him as long as the same RNG machine is running. Right now I’m on my ranger maybe 30% of the time, if that.
thunder…. thunder….. thundercats!!!!
@Puandro

I will post my pet damage calculator when im done with it, much easier. ATM they only nerfed maul which the pet used once every 20 seconds. Cats still do same dps with auto and with Bite, we lost our 2 sec quickness but it was garbage after the quickness nerf also i didnt pet swap. BM isn’t dead, you just have less pet options.
I don’t know if you guys noticed but I ran a power/beastmaster hybrid tonight in SOAC amatuer tourney and it worked well. The cat’s aren’t out of the picture by any means. All that happened is every pet became more viable lest porcine perhaps. If you think about what has changed—look at everything as a whole—you see that we have so many more options than we did before and we’re just as effective. I’m now thoroughly convinced that this was a PVE buff, spvp balance, and wvw buff all in one patch.
The balance team did incredible work and should be applauded. The naysayers will see once they get used to the new ways of being powerful.
Very offensive indeed. Basically you are saying that the many voices on the ranger forum are all delusional unskilled players who just happen to be cry babies. Good job making yourself look so pro. Is it your intention to make the rangers stay in the weak state they are in right now, compared to other classes? Do you even main as a ranger?
sadly to tell that – but they are.
that’s the reason why after firt visit here I laughed hard and go away.
and I am ranger on the main – also guardian on the alt and you know what?
while playing guardian I passively copy most of my ranger tactics, move style of fight….
also my regen BM after this patch didn’t really noticed the change.
we (rangers) aren’t weak…
we can survive most things that other cannot – and that’s our first advantage right now….
Tested Companions Might.
Might lasts 5 seconds.
69% Crit Chance
Warhorn #4 manages to do on average of 10 might stacks for the duration of the hits, not bad.
Sword Auto was managing 7 stacks + 3 from Chain for 10 total
Axe #5 was doing 7 Might stacks average per channel.
SB Auto was doing 6 Stacks
GS Auto was doing 4 Stacks
at 39% crit chance, something i would be able to achieve with full cleric with Fury.
Axe #5 4 stacks
Warhorn #4 7 Stacks
Sword Auto 4 Stacks
SB Auto 3 stacks
GS Auto 2 stacks
Im looking at an average of 4 might extra if i took the trait, 140 power….. Meh not worth it for anything i will lose.
The trait is a must for PvE for sure though.
