Q:

So I am leveling my Ranger atm and wanted to know what his state in stuff like dungones etc is. My pet seems to end up pretty dead when I try to do bigger events or fight enemys with AoE spamming F3 on the wind-up of AoE helps but still besides the bear everything seems to just melt. Does this carry over into dungones? Or do Rangers get some nice utlity/ dmg output done in dungones?

Blub.

It depends on your build and how often you swap. If you build with a heavy investment in Beastmastery (especially if you run to 30 and get Natural Healing), run with Signet of the Wild and use Companion’s Defense in the Wilderness Survival tree (grants Protection to you and your pet when you roll), even squishy cats and birds can survive quite a punishment. In addition, know when to hit the “return to me” button to have them retreat out of melee range. If you see the boss is about to hit a stomp or something like that, back out of melee and bring your pet with you.

But most importantly, swap and swap often. They come back with full health and you can abuse the 2 second quickness buff from Beastmaster 5.

Do they still die to heavy damage bosses with heavy AoE’s? Yes, but what wouldn’t if it didn’t know how to dodge?

You have to know what pets work for what encounters. If you’re clearing trash, you can swap to heavy damage melee pets and be fine. If you’re going up against a boss that you know will wipe out most melee pets, swap to dual devourers or spiders or bears.

The situations not great, but pets can be built to survive if you know how to micro them and you build right.
