I have found Strider’s Defense to be deeply disappointing and I have a suggestion for how it can be improved:
GM trait (skirmishing line)
Strider: When wielding a sword you have a 30% chance to gain retaliation on hit for 4 seconds (icd: 10 seconds), when you evade an attack, grant might to your pet, deal 5% more damage with sword

…Yeah, I am still trying to figure out what Precision and Critical damage have to do with traps. Strider’s defense is there to give you better survivability in zerg fights (I think?). Most of the time you will be using GS is zergball.

Think of it like an added evasion to the GS which has a 33% (feels more like 40%) chance to “auto-evade”. The problem is that it appears to be in the wrong trait line. To survive in melle range, I run some form of 30/0/30/x/x. with GS and Axe torch. Don’t see how to get 30 in skirmishing and stay alive, so I don’t know how to use this new ability. Anyone have any thoughts?

actually, i’d rather have it this way;
20% chance to reflect projectiles back at the attacker.
1 second ICD to prevent “too many proc’s pr attack chain” (IE; sword AA with quickness…. that would be OP against any ranged attacker)

This way, you can go full DPS and actually have a DPS+Defense in one.

It seems you havents tested it enough!

It procs when you stomp someone, when you revive someone, everywhere where there is channeling time and you wield melee!

I cant count the number of time i blocked the engi/warrior #2 in downed state when stomping

I cant count the number of time i blocked the engi/warrior #2 in downed state when stomping

i get that it works, i understand that it can be handy. But spending 6 of 14 points to get a 15% chance to NOT get interrupted, stunned, knocked back, shot to pieces, kill-shot or otherwise hit by a million pointy things, does not make up for the cost.

Even if they made it have only 15% chance to reflect a incoming projectile, i would take it. Because that one lucky kill-shot reflection, or that one lucky KBS reflection would be worth it. But a simple block – no.

The problem is that 15% to destroy one projectile is so limited and so RNG based. Having to go 6 points in for something that should be a master trait is the problem. My suggestion was based around reducing the RNG nature, making it something that is more actively used (evades grant might to pet) and more valuable for 6 points. Also, my suggestion was made with the idea that it might open up new build options that use melee and beast-master, two things that rangers have had many problems with in the past. A small chance to block projectiles is less fun than being able to actively work on buffing your pet through evades. As for the stomping, I have found the trait Shared Anguish to be plenty effective at negating interrupts for stomps and revives (as well as the trait Hide in Plain Sight)

Also I want to make the trait highly rewarding to more skilled players. The trait is set such that the Ranger (through his pet) grows stronger and stronger throughout the fight as might is stacked up on the pet. This makes it so that the longer the Ranger stays in the fight and the more effectively he uses his evades the stronger he becomes.

Seems silly to take a grandmaster trait just to finish someone you already beat. Not to mention you can just hide behind your pet to avoid the interrupt while you stomp.
