I’m surprised this topic hasn’t come up before, and I’m sure many of you have probably tried a build like this at least once.

This build is actually really solid. It’s not meant for anything serious, like competitive PvP. But it’ll do you well for general pvp and roaming. For the most part, it’s fun and rewarding if done right.

Don’t underestimate its stunning capabilities. Two and a half second stuns on sb and gs with 20 second cooldowns. Wolf fear lasts three seconds in addition to his knockdown. Boar F2 is actually really good. It gives you a 5 1/4 second stun with a bone drop, 4 second daze with a rock drop, and a 7 1/2 fear with the skull (has a 120 second cooldown, however). The boar also has a 3 second knockdown which rarely hits but is great when it does.

To those boar naysayers, his F2 is not unreliable at all. Its on you to call it in when you know you’re in the position to pick up his item. Just be aware of the cool down on the skull. If you do get one on cooldown, then just drop it. Also, the bone he drops is unfairly spammable. No matter how many times it is blocked or evaded, it won’t go away until it hits someone.

You actually have decent evasion capability as well, especially if you are capable of “tagging” the greatsword (you strike the first two auto’s, then purposely miss the third so you can cast it twice, granting you two seconds of evasion for every auto chain).

Its been mentioned quite a few times, but deemed unreliable due to RNG. Furthermore, your skill bar sometimes glitches while picking the items up.

There are better alternatives for rangers to stun lock with.

On a semi-related note, the next balance update will give Hilt Bash a 1.5s daze. With Moment of Clarity this becomes 3s. With Rune of the Mesmer (+33% daze duration) this should give Hilt Bash a 4s daze.

The only RNG is boar F2. But it works fine for the most part.

Sadly, Asuras are the best race for it. Technobabble for 6s daze is quite OP.

Also, why not runes of nightmare?

I just tested moment of clarity with rune of the mesmer, either anet doesnt allow rune of the mesmer to work on ranger skills or rune of mesmer and moment of clarity dont stack because when i put both together its only 2 seconds of stun when it should be more. Maybe anet needs to look into this

Ill just make a thread about it cause sigil of paralyzation isnt working on the weapon skills either

You’re right, asuras are the best, but not everyone has one.

You can use runes of the nightmare if you want. I prefer ranger runes simply for the huge damage boost they give.

I think I read somewhere that there’s a +100% limit to control effect durations. If true, Moment of Clarity gives you the full +100%, so nothing else will stack with it.

(Incidentally, even if they did stack, MoC would give +100%, Rune of Mesmer +33%, for a total +133%, making a 1.5s daze just 3.5s, not 4s.)

The only RNG is boar F2. But it works fine for the most part.

What Rym said, I’ve been using technobabble with nightmare runes. This means you can go for the jungle spider instead of boar/warthog. I think its better to have some immobs in case people start stabilitying.

Also, since entangle is getting its CD reduced, sunless runes is worth slotting. Immobilize, bleed, fear, while flanking with crossfire will be delicious~

The boar also has a 3 second knockdown which rarely hits but is great when it does.

The thing that drives me nuts about the pig family, is not only does that attack miss, the pig completely removes himself from the fight when he misses. Its a cute animation, but sheesh.

That’s because Runes of the Mesmer buffs only daze not stuns.

It doesnt effect the daze either…

Conditions can’t be increased past 100%. Moment of clarity already caps Daze and Stun effects. Mesmer runes, sigil of paralysis, etc. will not increase the duration further.
