Now that Druid has been revealed and Astral form introduced, wisps have also been introduced with a few skills. Why not change Spirits to Wisps. Make them immune to all damage like Warriors Banners. Also, revert them back to movable of course. A Ranger in Astral form, could make use of Sun Spirit for example. Burn enemy’s while you heal.
You can even go as far as treating Spirits like Glyphs. When in Astral form, your Spirit is swapped to a Wisp with new abilities etc.
making the spirits change to wisps while in astral form + allowing them to move , so when you come out of astral form you can repostion them.

At this point, just make them mobile instead.
That would be so aweseome. When you enter astral form they kinda “fly” to you while transforming into wisps in different colours that circle you. Their passives radius is calculated around you, same goes for the actives for which you are the center. When astral form ends, the active effect resolves and if you’re in range of the former position they return there and if you’re out of range they spawn next to you.

That’s interesting. I hadn’t really thought of Spirits/Wisps working like that. Either way, Druid opens up a lot of doors for different opportunity’s for Irenio and Anet.

While I like the idea, it will bring much needed synergy between ranger and druid, I think spirits in general could use a total over all. They die really fast, in fact on at least 70% of boss encounters they will die within the first 5 to 10 seconds of being placed.

there is a lot of support for this. ive actually been suggesting this for almost 3 years (feel free to look in my post history lol).
- keep Spirit of Nature a spirit tree. greatly decrease his cooldown, OR greatly increase its utility and RANGE if CD is kept the same. otherwise, he is cool. however….
- convert spirits into wisps that orbit the ranger. passively, they are invulnerably and they imbue weapons with certain effects (fire —> burning, frost --> chill, etc.). this would make autoattack spam weapons with high RoF like SB quite strong.
- when used actively, wisps are shot out by the ranger to a certain location and they have two functions: they create a field with or without any damage (fire, lighting, water, etc.), and they give the ranger a boon OR stunbreak OR cleanse a few condis.
this is simple to implement and would forever solve the issue of spirits.
please support this thread if you want spirits to be usable. with the terrible buffs they will receive on Tuesday, players will continue to ignore them. not sure about you guys, but we don’t need another 6 months of testing to convince ourselves how horribad spirits are.

would love to see Irenio comment to this when he has a bit more time.
I don’t see why they need to become wisps to become immune to damage, and I’d much rather have tree spirits than wisps personally.
Also, as cool as the ideas of spirits playing off celestial form in some way are, they’d be highly out of line with any of the other elite specs in the game (elite specs don’t change core utilities), and set a rather bad precedent of requiring an elite spec for a core utility set to function.
the idea is you have both , while in astral form the spirits become wisps (immune to damage) as astral form is Limited in time it will grant immunity for the spirits buffs (though doing so means you give up the Actives, condensing the nature energy if you will to protect the spirits)
then when you leave astral form they return to the normal state , also don’t forget Spirits Are effect by heals+regen so by the time you come out of astral form the spirit will be healed , this fixes the issue of them being killed fast and allowing them to be Repostionable.
though again its alot of new coding to be added.
Why not just have spirits be wisps all the time? Tiny glowing Oakhearts are getting kind of old.
This defeats the unknown reason they nerfed them in the first place.
well the buffs they provide with the Natures trait would be overpowering if they were not able to die as you;d just re-summon them into a state of immunity.
nothing that gives that many buffs should be immune indefinitely.
with other changes or tweeks i;d rather not suggest things that will push things into a Overpower or Over tuned Category to the point our core traits or utilities are again held back , atleast this way it recovers the lost mechanics of moving spirits and solves the quick death issues before you can activate them.
and if they do become wisp’s and you still have the ability to use the actives you could use Storm spirits active on your own location as a extra chunk of damage+daze while you move around the battle field healing.
it has clear visual effects a Blue wisp with lighting charging up , people will see this and know that the Daze is comming , 3 birds one stone.

Mm, have you seen Herald? It isn’t that much different. I’m sure a lot of people (enemies) would accept this type of buff just to have the body blocking go away and general clutter.
I like this concept.
My suggestion: remove the boons and aoe increase from the GM trait, but add a CD reduction and the ability for spirits to have 2 actives before being destroyed (spirits would not take damage but would still die with active activation). Adjust CDs and spirit durations accordingly. Also add a really obvious animation for the elite active for counterplay. Makes base spirits decent but also makes taking the GM trait over Protective ward worth traiting for.
