Sword Auto Attack Animation
Flip side to your argument is we shouldn’t be talking about skill if you couldn’t dodge in time using the old animation.
Person a: stupid argument
Person b: people in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones
Person a: repeat stupid argument
You sure showed me.

Old behavior you couldn’t dodge by reaction (in time), only by prediction since you were locked in the animation (with aa on autocast enabled).
That’s the point, AA is not beneficial at all outside if pve due to the amount of counter conditions thrown around. Like, when I say skill I don’t mean pve.
That said for other modes what we have now is a vastly inferior weapon to what we had before. All in the name of AA prevented dodging when good players weren’t using it to begin with.
So yes, I’d like my dps and tracking back as I know when to stop attacking.

By your logic, auto-attack shouldn’t ever be implemented into the game and can be removed completely for PvP – because “good” players weren’t using it (ever? you can’t be serious).
If you ask me – it’s easier even for good players to turn auto-attack off when Confusion bombed momentarily rather than annihilate your keyboard by pressing it every time you want to pressure anyone (which should be often, btw).
The very standard idea about auto-attack being pointless (/not effective enough to be set on auto-cast) as the only class (if I’m wrong here I’m sorry, but I really don’t know about any other classes with this problem) was a bad design.
And that only proves their change was needed – but they broke X other things such as DPS itself by doing so.
The problem is that they gave us something that should have been made ever since the start. And they were brave enough to stealth-nerf us while at that.
Yes, I think AA as a pressure mechanic is stupid. Other classes pressure through burst or conditions, which have the advantage of being able to be timed.
I’m not going to AA with my bow until I see confusion, retaliation, reflect, etc. pop up because then it is too late. LB it’s far easier to turn the auto off and know I’m not going to fire extra shots. Same with MH axe.
The only weapon AA is critical on is also our worst….SB.
All this applies to the old MH sword. Super fast 3 chain attacks until you needed to stop, then you stop and dodge.

Which might still be a nice 0,6 second delay. That is far more than plain crucial in a PvP game. And yet, we are still talking about needing to stop.
Which is ridiculous. How come other classes do not have to? They hit harder, they are reliable and provide nice stuff. So it seems I have to repeat that the only problem is that we hit like a wet noodle and their stealth-nerf in aftercasts didn’t help. The change of the mechanics was needed and we asked for it. Full stop.
Going in circles is not going to drag the discussion anywhere.

What on earth am I reading here? The best two burst classes at the moment are Rev and thief, both with very powerful autos that they definitely use and contribute to how good they are. All current condi builds apply a good amount of condi through their autos to pressure the enemy.
Any half decent player is going to get at most 1 (maybe 2 depending on what weapon you are using) ticks from Confusion before they realize and respond and retal is only really a problem with multi hit attacks. Hardly some massive problem that needs you to stop using all your autos just in case.

Don’t forget that we are also the only profession that uses a main-hand sword that: a) cannot cleave up to 3 targets on all hits, and b) have longer initial cast times.
I just want the standard sword animations everyone else has and the Thief sword cast and after casts on every profession that uses main-hand sword.
Would be a bit dull on the animation-side of things, but I’m leaning towards performance now. We have enough things that look nice and under-perform.
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
