Fix it.
Fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it.
I’m loving dueling with a sword and warhorn. Personally, I find it to be one of the best 1v1 weapon/profession combinations I’ve used so far. Although Mesmers and Thieves pose an obvious advantage, the built in evades and general flipping and hopping all over the place nature of the sword makes it a very desirable dueling weapon. But that immobilize animation… Getting locked in place while the #1 ability is in it’s chain has gotten me, or nearly gotten me killed so many times… Fix it.
Fix it, vfix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it, fix it.
If you hit esc. while in the chain it overrides the chain and stops the combo allowing you to dodge.
if you hit esc 2x you can press: log out and create a new char that fits you better
just kidding. practice is all you need. enjoy the ranger class.
Can people PLEASE stop making these threads, there is already more then a few hundred dozens threads about this topic. And how, when and why you should use a sword has been explained in about a million threads by now, some of those threads can be found under the “New to Rangers, Look here” sticky.
Read up on something and try learn how to use it before you come crying here. There is enough complaints here as is.
@Prysin
There are new players just coming to realize the suckiness/contortion like requirements of the sword AUTO ATTACK …..sheesh….anyhoo, they have a right to vent too lol.
I think the sword auto attack is amazing. Is it perfect? No. Could it be redesigned better? Probably. But if you actually deal with the skill curve and learn how to use it, the weapon is one of the best melee weapons in the game.
People can ask for it to be changed all they want, but at the end of the day, the weapon is going to have to be neutered, and by the time it does what people want it to do, it will either no longer do the same damage it currently does, or it won’t have the same unique mechanic that makes it so good (being able to stick to your target and lock them down is invaluable). What people are asking for the sword to do just isn’t feasible without changing either the skill delay (lowering the DPS overall) or the mechanic.
Why would it have to be neutered? Outside of spirits we die in spvp once the evade frames are on cooldown. Too much survivability? lol.
ctrl + 1 = no more chain

Would be nice if the 2 skill didn’t do damage and instead instantly evaded back when used though, I think this alone would be enough to stop the complaints about the sword “root”
@ People who are saying this is an L2P issue- if you’ve ever played a thief, imagine the Heartseeker attack locked you in to place for a second and a half and you were unable to do anything else until the animation was completely finished. It’s your primary attack but it is also now the attack that leaves you most vulnerable.
I understand that it may take additional practice to compensate for this issue, but that shouldn’t be the case is what I’m trying to say.. Why should players have to learn to cope with something that creates a large frame of vulnerability when it’s obviously unintentional. We should be able to move freely around our targets while chaining our attacks. As someone who plays like a thief (even though I do not like the thief profession), I’m constantly circling my targets, evading, countering and confusing them. But when being rooted… Just that small gap of time is long enough for them to slap me off of them.
But hey, as long as people are defending this issue I suppose I will have to L2P, with a broken mechanic.
Also, I don’t care if there are a bunch of other threads about the same subject. Don’t like it don’t read it, you’re not a dev why’s it matter? And since this profession is so neglected, I think it’s only logical to keep repeating our problems until someone notices the patterns.
Well you seem like a nice reasonable person.
FYI they have noticed peoples dislike of it and have already said they are looking into fixing it, although its not as simple as you make it out to be. It you actually took the time to think and read before spamming the forums you’d know that without annoying others and we could all live happily ever after.
Also another random aside.. Just because you like playing a certain way on your thief doesnt mean the ranger should be able to play the exact same way. Like you I dislike the AA on the sword, but none-the-less is does have some clear unique advantages to it, so ruining that for people who like how it is just because you want to be like your thief on your ranger is pretty selfish.
What I love to do with the 1H sword is jump into a crowd of 3 enemies in WvW and literally jump between them (jump to one stabby stabby, use the 2nd attack in the chain to then jump to the other, etc.) It’s run watching them try to land AoEs and other skills when you are jumping around like a crazy man (or in my case Norn). Learn the strengths of the sword and then work around the perceived weaknesses. The end result is always fun.
Quoted for great justice!
The other option is turn off auto-attack. I personally love how I stick to opponents and cripple them so my pet can stick to them. I guess I use it more for a “burn phase” if you would.
Sword in PvP is good, but awful in pve
It’s not awful, it’s extremly strong with a high dps. Aslong as you do not chain it automaticly you can escape and dodge perfectly with a roll, 2 and 3. It has great mobiliy and combinations like 2 + axe 4 or 2 + swap to axe mainhand / swap to range pet and 2 again.
It is just as good as you are.
