Sword mainhand issues
I just created a ranger today to test some things in SPvP and…wtf is up with sword slot 1 attack? The animations for the kick and pounce attacks prevent my character from using other actions that should interrupt them. Like dodge, if I have slot 1 on auto attack and start hitting a dummy, I literally can’t dodge at all while spamming the dodge key. I have to move out of range or break the animation cycle in some way before I can actually dodge.
The whole chain sequence is extremely clunky, and makes mainhand sword unplayable. Is this a known bug? Is there a way to fix it (some settings I can change)?
Disable the auto-attack and manually use sword 1.
It’s a inherited effect from the previous version of the skill chain which involved actually knocking back and then pouncing on your foe. When they updated the skill to give it a different effect they either forgot, or didn’t care to remove the root from these previous actions and its what causes this. It isn’t a bug, it was just an oversight and/or lazy skill alterations. You can disable the AA but you still get rooted when you do manually attack. Since it’s just the Ranger however there is no rush to fix it. Welcome to the club my friend^.^
So why do we choose to ignore it?
Known issue. Likely will be fixed in an upcoming patch within the next couple weeks.
Yeah, after I posted I noticed the issue was in the stickied bug list, so at least it has some visibility with the devs. It’s unfortunate, because Sword/Dagger looks like a really fun combination to play, but this issue makes it completely unplayable for me. I did try disabling auto attack, which helped slightly. But dodge rolls still won’t interrupt an animation in progress (like it should), and the pounce attack sends me flying way past my target sometimes. Very poorly implemented.
I already have a lvl 80 warrior and guardian, because I especially like playing the melee classes in this game. I was going to start working on a ranger next, because I like the pet system, and just feel dirty when I play a thief…With those other melee classes, I’ve never seen any issues with animations and dodging. They have always felt very responsive and fluid. Playing mainhand sword on the ranger though feels like playing in mud. Hope they can get some of these ranger issues fixed pronto.
i like sword (albeit it i got rid of the chain lock by disabling auto attack). it allows me to be somewhat lazy and completely stick onto the person i’m targeting. it’s a great culling weapon when your intercepting fleeing people from a zerg because of the built in AoE cripple.
switch to your short bow and shoot off a 4 or 5, hit them 3-4 times and move on to the next person. it’s pretty easy to rack up “kills” this way.
it’s hard for me to get used to another second set (Sword+WH) because i love the dodging and evading mobility it provides it can be used in fast paced play but i like to think of it as a fencing weapon meant for parrying and dodging.
MH sword doesn’t root you so much as have two built in lunge attacks. While it would be nice to have dodge override everything, I’d rather have the auto attack as is if the only other option is to lose the built in lunges.
