TPvP - Spirit Meta Builds

I’m glad to see Sword/Torch and Axe/Dagger instead of other way around :P
To kind of add to what Sol posted, I think it’d be worth looking into Rune of the Forge as an alternative to Undead for the “Shaman Spirit’s – Home Point Bunker” option. You’ll lose out on like 250-300 condition damage, but you gain a massive boost in defense via much higher toughness and high protection uptime along with 20% increased duration burns (which are pretty nasty as well).

I normally run Axe/Dagger – Sword/Horn and now depending on whom we are facing Runes of Melandru, very effect vs the current Warrior meta.
Something allot of ranger’s are not aware of is duration is worth more then condition damage. If you watched the vVv Tourney today, I ran my own version with very odd rune setup and I had my reason.

Duration is one of those grey areas. Mathematically, it seems much more effective a lot of the time, but against someone who removes conditions all the time, it seems kind of a moot point if you’ve got one of those builds that stacks them almost constantly anyways. Still, it’s all circumstantial. Like you, I swap depending on who the opponent is. Things would be so much easier if one glove fit every hand, eh?
Good thing. Easy is boring.

Keep seeing storm spirit in these pvp builds – is the swiftness on attack that necessary or is it for the call lightening?

I haven’t seen anybody use a rabid build, and I can only assume it’s awful due to testing around with rampagers/crit procs. Carrion’s okay, I used it in the PAX qualifier, mainly about the teamfighting, plus it has pretty good 1v1 potential. Shamans you can also run 10 points in beastmaster for reduced cdr on pet f2s which is fairly effective with spiders/wolf/drakehound especially. Overall now however spirit ranger isn’t too effective at home bunkering, its strengths (ranger strength in general) was being able to 1v1 while being sustain/tanky. Nowadays you might aswell run a warrior in all honesty, spirit res being the only reason imo that spirit rangers are ran anymore.
i run a soldier spirit build with fighter runes to buff damage. this is much effective because it takes faster to kill someone rather than relying on condition damage the whole time.
u can run beastmaster as well . Tis true
Particularly, I (not being a part of an organized team and have really only kept up with current info due to lack of interest until a reward revamp) would say that on the Shamans build, the Stone Spirit can be traded for a different option. Personally, I’ve found use in both Signet of Renewal and Signet of the Wild.
They all have their pros and cons.
In general, Stone Spirit becomes more valuable either based on whether or not you are running Carrion, and how often you are joining teamfights (giving your whole team protection is a huge benefit).
Rabid is probably the most underestimated of the options, which is a real shame.

Yeah the build’s I posted are the Meta Builds. I currently use my own version of Spirit Builds based on my roll. I don’t use Spirit build on backpoint anymore, there is a Warrior whom can beat me most of the time which you can’t have as your backpoint you need high % chance of winning. This isn’t due to lack of skill its due to his build just counters me to hard and I have to base beating him on chance he messes up which is to much of a risk.
I don’t recommend Carrion Spirit build to anyone. It’s a commonly used build but its our weakest version of Spirit’s. It’s only good vs Team’s who are full conditions which gets destroyed in this meta and I’ve not see condition heavy team in TPvP win in so long now.
I’ll explain why in a few simple words, Shaman’s beats it on backpoint and rabid beats it in team fights. I know it might sound a bit blunt, but after playing ranger for past year you end up finding all the pro’s and con’s of each version of Spirit Build.
Rabid user will tank just as much as a Carrion user in team fight’s. Also Rabid stacks bleeds so much faster and does just as much direct damage.
I also recommend every Spirit build takes HS and Sword/Horn, team support is just to strong.
There is so much I would love to share, but best way is to find out on your own and this is why I posted common Spirit Builds, so new player’s could play them find there roots with the builds and turn them into there own version which fits into there roll.

Yeah, true.
The thread is definitely a good reference point. With the lack of a resource like GW1’s PvXwiki, it’s definitely a good place for players looking to get into PvP to see the most popular meta builds.

Um Eura I don’t see LB/GS in that build, lol hopefully after your display of the Epic Power ranger in the tourney Anet might start improving the build.
