Hey guys, I’ve been a thief main since beta, but I’ve really taken a liking to the way ranger feels and looks and I think the playstyle is a bit different than most classes. Anyway, I noticed really early on that the sword feels clunky, and it roots you in a way into the animation. I turned the auto cast off for the auto, and it helps, but how do I work around it? The built in leap also rubberbands me off of people quite often as if it is two leaps instead of one. Do any veteran rangers use sword for PvP/WvW? Any tricks on how to use it correctly?

Practice. The only real advice any real pro can give.

You are not really supposed to use sword auto as a primary source of dmg. I mostly use it as a kiting weapon. Mastering #2 is the key here. If you want to be fancy, you can alwars auto attack with no target to get 2 leaps. It helps to create distances.

Just remember: sword is more a utility weapon rather than a damaging one in pvp.

there’s nothing much to teach. you can chain your #2 with LR to travel about 1200. you should also know that casting #2 will get you killed often due to its slow animation. it also has a bad aftercast. spamming #1 will also get you killed because you cant cancel the animations, so use only to secure a kill.

The irony is the high DPS.

This makes it the ideal choice in PvE. However, the static mobs make the autopilot seem more like a penalty than a feature.

In PvP/WvW, it’s meant for aggressive chasing, yet things like teleport, stealth and clones can mess it up really fast.

I mean, I guess it is really good for taking out downed people.
