To begin with, I have been playing Ranger for nearly 2 years. I’ve experimented with every pet and have settled on my favorites, the Pink Moa being one of them. It has saved my life countless times from being CC chained in WvW and I appreciate the cast time of it’s special ability when compared to the Wolf’s fear.

I have a question however; How often does the Moa cast Harmonic Cry and what exactly does it look like when it casts this ability so I know when to get near it?

I’m often too absorbed in combat paying attention to combo fields, my footing, cooldowns and whether my pet is nearly dead or not to notice exactly what my pet is doing at the time. So despite playing a lot of Ranger, I’m still not very educated with this pet skill and I would like to be!

So if anyone can explain any details they have about this pet skill to me I would really appreciate it. I’d like to start being within range to receive that heal as it’s a rather significant number.

Moas tend to use Harmonic Cry when you or the Moa falls below 75% health. The animation looks similar to their F2 screeches, but without the visual wind-up and cone.

There is an old Ranger trick referred to as, “Pocket Moa” where you would swap to a Moa pet when below the health threshold for an on-demand Harmonic Cry. Hope this helps.

Huh, I did not know this, thanks!

I hope they will differ the animation from the screeches so we can tell the difference in combat.

simply changing the Harmonic cry so the MoA screeches + flaps its wings to signal the start of the Harmonic so other players can see it and react to get closer to gain the heal when we Swap to a MoA while we are under 75% hp.

its hardly noticable right now.

They could just make the range bigger, if they changed the animation to make it longer, it would be a big DPS loss, imo, they should just make the radius 600.

Moans deal damage ??? I always thought they dealt low base damage , were easily kitted, and don’t crit often. Unlike other avians that can one shot full glass thieves.

Have fun. Be Alive. K Thnx Bye.

Are you suggesting that the other birds can deal 10k+ damage in 1 hit? Also, are you suggesting that a Moa not attacking is not a loss of damage? I don’t get what the point of that post was.

na , not make the animation longer , just make it so the Moa flaps its wings while Screeching to show its using Harmonic cry and not the f2.

The lack of the animation is why I don’t use the moa, the one pet whose 2nd ability we can’t easily control. It’s unfortunate because it is one of the stronger skills.

Pretty much. But we are rangers, we can’t have nice things, and having the moa actually show, clearly, when it’s using harmonic cry would ofc be waaay op…

I know it’s not going to happen but I keep hoping the changes to ranger will include being able to control your pets other skills….. But judging by the necro changes druid will probably be something like “We thought it would look really cool if the ranger literally planted himself in 1 spot and slowly grew plants and vines to attack his foe. We understand the combat in this game is based heavily around movement and dodging but just look how cool this looks!”

Lol they would do that. I am half expecting that we will be able to control our pets 2nd ability with druid specialization. I think that would mean I would never use it considering we can already control pets through skill cancelling, such a thing would hopefully be baseline.

I remember it was possible for the cat to hit for 11K with BM build. I’d say birds might be able to do just the same.
About the loss of damage, it’s hardly noticeable with Moas. Heimskarl would be right in here. Moas are never picked for damage but for Healing/Defensive/Utility purposes. I’d trade the damage for more reliable heal anyday.
