Anet, please respond to this. I understand there are hundreds of crying threads out there per class, especially with the Ranger, but we really need some confirmation on what to expect.
It has been over a year and we are still barely viable. I will leave WVW and PVP talk for other forum members if they so wish, but im mainly focusing on PVE right now. PVE is where MOST player start, and its kind of sad when in map chat queensdale new players are being told not to play Ranger because youre not wanted in any dungeon and youre even more worthless beyond PVE.

Can we get ANY kind of word on what the direction is on this class??? The majority of us have given up on thinking pets will be worth anything on any level of the game. Will we ever have decent Melee? Why is the GS on other classes so much more powerful than with us Rangers???? I know its our “defensive” weapon, but Warrior GS is 2 -3x stronger and it has a whirlwind evade, and gets out of combat/direct damage much better than us…

I understand youve seen this all before. I get it, we all get it, but we dont get why we cant get any kind of answer. Our new heal is the worst thing ive ever (seen besides the Ranger axe main hand anyway) and im not sure if you can even fix that or if anyone cares too.

Your company is starting to receive a real bad name for not caring about the player base and its sad because we know (we do, we really do) that you care about this game and its fans. A friend of mine (cough cough) plays FF14 and the amount of ANET bashing on their because of lack of class balancing is amazing. (This same friend came back to GW2 just to let you know, hes a great guy and you should toss him a precursor).

Please give us any kind of response, even if its a “kitten out of luck” so I know whether or not I should put more gold into this class or go back to my Warrior or Mesmer.

Please, some kind of word that there is ANY kind of direction towards the Ranger coming. If you guys cannot see that we are bootleg Warriors right now than I dont know what to do or say. A Warrior with a 1 silver Ember is better than us in every way. I hate to keep comparing us to Warriors I really do, but we have similar mechanics and are just worse in every single way.

Arenanet listens more to the playerbase than any other company i saw.
But im glad they dont take all the whiners that dont even know their class seriously.
We are still number 4 on the ranking for advanced dungeon groups, thats better than half the classes in the game.

Adding to the fact they know the issues, they just have a very odd way of balancing a class that needs more and instead actually give it less. If that’s not screwed up I dunno what is and I would love an Anet explanation of the logic behind the decisions.

Example
Guardian greatsword Skill 1 Strike : Damage: 296
Ranger greatsword – Skill 1 – Slash Damage: 203

Considering Guardian has heavy armor, better healing and better base DPS, where is the balance and where if ranged DPS is lower than melee, why is ranger melee also under par ?
Its not a case of whiners not knowing the class, its the class causing so called " whiners" in the first place. The only real option just now for Rangers is the old tired regen builds, thats what makes us welcome but comes at a heavy cost. Rangers want lootbags too, you dont get lootbags for being the support nor a team medic.

What kind of logic is that. guard gs auto has a bigger number than ranger gs auto so guard has more dps? wtf.. You do know gs/sword is the main dps weapon for guards? GS for rangers is… not. Maybe the dps from auto is slightly lower because we have a freakin evade build in? On top of that we even do more damage with greatsword because we have that pet-thing most seem to forget which hits for nice numbers with perma high might and we have some very nice dps boosting utilitys guards not possess and lets not forget all the invul.
Now using a shortbow or sword..
I mean guards are great and all, i know, but please, please do not live under the illusion they do more damage. They simply dont.
And eles are nice but rangers are a bit better. Thiefs on the other hand are the worst class of all… if there should be someone whining it should be them.

Youre saying that the Ranger is better than Elementalist? Im not sure what you mean by “better” but if you mean higher dungeon DPS/Use than you need to put your burger down and walk away.

Thief is better than Ranger almost everywhere in every situation.

Well what they could actualy do is scale pet critical damage with the ranger critical damage or at least scale the pet power with the ranger power so to make a power build viable to beast mastery having pet score serious hits. BM ranger always did heavy damage in GW 1 so why the hell is my pet dealing less damage then everyone else for uh? Maybe Anet could up the duration of the active effect of signet of the wild to make it actualy work longuer time

Biggest problems with Ranger are pet deaths from unavoidable boss mechanics since the pet is unresponsive and unable to mitigate damage.
You’re asking for the Official Stance of Anet but we already heard it; they won’t fix pet AI. Also, with a dead pet we ARE the most useless profession in the game.
This is exactly why I don’t even want to log on anymore. This game has no balancing anyway, they are so lost with what needs to be done that they never do enough.

exactly what Nica said is what many, many players say. Its disturbing to be honest. While I dont feel Useless on my Ranger at all, I can hold it down better than most Warriors, Im also using an unbelievable amount of skill to do things that are simple on other classes and they can prob do it better or just the same. We all know the Pets have serious issues, we need a rework on all of our weapons first because the pet is just an after thought. I dont consider it anything special since I can use embers on all of my classes and they are far far better than any pet

The strange thing about pets and ANet is when they worked, and worked well in World-versus-World, they get gutted.

That guard, stealthed cat, critical-hit combination was epic . . . devastating . . . and then it was nerfed like crazy. So, yes, pets do work, but it almost seems like ANet doesn’t want them to.

Another example, the Hyena and Spirits-combination was THE spec in PvP during beta. The hyena could summon an equal-level companion, and the healing combination from the spirits was also devastating.

You know what happened. Hyena’s damage was reduced as was the companion’s. Spirits got gutted too. And that spec became obsolete.

So, I’m not buying this ‘we have no idea’ excuse about pets. The trend is whenever something does work or is powerful for ranger, it gets gutted . . . hard.

Bleed-spec? Gutted. Longbow bug with frenzy? Nerfed with record speed. And on and on.

I call BS. They know. How shameful is it to admit you don’t know how to fix an issue in your own game rather than to actually admit you don’t want it to be fixed instead?

The developer who used to speak for rangers on these boards quit in a huff for a reason.

My fix for the ranger in PvE is to scale pet stats in PvP in the same manner that gear stats are scaled/limited in PvP and then buff the ranger coefficients across all game types. Then in PvE we end up with pets at the same strength that they are now and weapon skills that will actually scale decently with berserker stats.

We won’t ever be able to get the devs to balance PvE. If we want to be good in PvE, we’re going to have to push for PvP balance changes that just happen to benefit us in PvE.

The truth is, all our ‘fixes’ are based around events and effects in PvP or WvW. When the player-base starts to complain, especially when rangers manage to kill players, it gets addressed.

I often wonder, if they really removed the pool at the bottom of the Temple of the Silent Storm map because rangers were powerful underwater.

I’ll admit, that’s my own conspiracy theory. But, I do wonder about it.

Regardless, I believe Killsmith makes a valid point.

Its not that we dont understand these things man, we all know what tools we have its not that we cant read or play, its that our tools are viable and thats it. Nothing spectacular, nothing great, they just work.

If you want enjoyable and/or competitive play as a ranger archetype, the only option is to play another game. The class will never be fixed because this game’s vendor honestly believes the class to not be weak or broken. Complaining to the vendor here is like trying to argue with someone in the middle of a schizophrenic episode. It doesn’t matter how constructively, patiently, or logically the issues are presented, the vendor is too disassociated from reality for any of it to compute.

Pfft the GS doesn’t even hold a candle to the sword even as a defensive weapon, let alone other class’ defensive weapons.

Ease of Use: GS

This weapon really needs some buff. Even if a dmg boost is impossible, I can settle for Jon Peters’ proposal of the Whirl Finisher on auto PLUS Blast Finisher on Maul so we can do some srs comboing. \o/

Sword is a much better defensive weapon especialy with dagger off hand than GS could ever be. Sword just has a powerful auto attack with a horrible root issue (thats not an issue). now tell me, if GS had the swords AA damage and sword had GS auto attack damage, which would you consider the defensive weapon?

I’d love to see what the dev means by better. Are we gonna die faster/better? Are gonna have our attacks reduced better? Are we gonna have our spirit’s abilities reduced better? Is the long bow gonna be better reduced in damage output? Basically, you get what I’m saying. Is the ranger going to have an even “better”/greater gap in lack of performance than it already has?

Maul on GS actually does get some pretty high numbers, I dont know that I totally agree there. I’ve never played guardian, or warrior so I cant compare though.

The thing I dont like is if we want to go for high survival it seems we need to rely on our pets or conditions for any damage, not the best options for wvw. I’d like to see more survival options for a power ranger, like a better regen on signet of wild.

If you want a comparison on maul and the guardian hammer’s #2 skill, maul has a 1.6 coefficient, 3/4 cast time, and 6 second recharge. Guardian hammer #2 has a 1.75 coefficient, 3/4 cast time, and 5 second recharge. It’s also a 300 range leap and has a blast finisher.

Maul on GS actually does get some pretty high numbers, I dont know that I totally agree there. I’ve never played guardian, or warrior so I cant compare though.

The thing I dont like is if we want to go for high survival it seems we need to rely on our pets or conditions for any damage, not the best options for wvw. I’d like to see more survival options for a power ranger, like a better regen on signet of wild.

A huge thing about this though is that maul its pretty hard, but then we are stuck in GS and it is what it is. I think Rangers would benefit GREATLY from faster swap like Warriors have, kitten cooldown between swapping weapons. Or atleast let Rangers swap between 3 different sets, something. We have the proper tools that just dont work correctly
