I did a similar topic about the Thief in the thief section, if you know something about thief please help
Okay I’m looking for a new character to play since I got bored with my two previous ones, my Elementalist and my Guardian. I thinking of Thief, but Ranger is also an option. The thing I know about ranger’s is that everyone complains about them being the weakest class of the game. Idk because I’ve never played one. About build the same as the Theif, everyone full damage.

Any advices? Any way to play beside full damage? Is it possible to play Crit build witha shortbow? Or it is better to stick with condition damage if I play with this weapon?

Well, for WvW if you’re looking to Thief and Ranger you’re basically asking for a roamer. In that case just pick the Thief, and yes, you can go power-crit with Shortbow, it’s actually easier to use the Thief shortbow for direct damage than condition. For open world PvE the Ranger is a better choice, but the Thief will do fine so it’s not a deal breaker. For dungeons the Thief is better, unless you’re bad at avoiding damage and end up spending so much time on the floor that a Ranger would do more damage than you just because he stays alive longer, but that’s hardly possible.

Rangers don’t really excel at any one thing, which is why no one wants them for a party. They do decent at roaming and havoc squads and sPvP, but their mediocre in zergs, and garbage in dungeons. You’ll also find longbow extremely underwhelming, which is quite a disappointment given that you’d expect it to be the ranger’s strong suit.

If you’re going for pure damage ranger is not an option at all on W3(and I mean it).
