The sad state of Rangers
If that’s the sort of statement they make I wouldn’t want to join anyway.
However it does make me feel really bad about my 1437 hours and 52 minutes over the last 399 days I’ve played this Ranger, my only character.

I wouldn’t want to be a part of their ball vs ball spamfest anyways.

Sounds like a fun and exciting guild.

Give me a break. Someone needs to go outside a little more.
~ Ranger
That’s not the ‘sad state of rangers’. That’s the ‘sad state of elitists in the GW2 community’.
Main: Caeimhe – Sylvari Ranger
Alts: Charr Guardian, Asura Elementalist, Human Thief, Norn Necromancer
Not surprised. When you’re trying to design an organized GvG or WvW group, why would you take a class that doesn’t provide anything? Or to be more fair to this class… you don’t provide anything better than anyone else?
This is how I wanted to play my Ranger and also about as effective as ANet has made them :/
(edited by Atherakhia.4086)
Summary: We don’t want any classes that require skill to play.
Can’t really blame them, the ranger has no place in organized WvW. We’re just a passable roaming class at best.
Yes everyone is already well aware of the WvW melee train meta and how it doesn’t just omit rangers, but thieves and engineers as well. In fact, medium armor has little to no reason to participate in GvG right now, which is fine, as I don’t participate in GvG anyway.
What is hilarious is a lot of these “GvG” guilds lose to simple-meta practitioners all the time which is basically 12 warriors, 4 guardians, 4 ele’s as they can’t even grasp the more complex meta which is 8 warriors, 4 guardians, 2 ele’s, 2 necro, 2 mesmer let alone apply it in practice.
In short, we already know that medium armor professions are shunned in most GvG guilds, but thankfully it’s not, nor ever will be, an actual game mode.
Also note, and this deserves it’s own post, that he is mainly asking for warriors/guardians/ele’s.
Just another GvG sheep guild that might last one month or so before it disbands or gets absorbed by an actual guild with principles.
Best counter to thief in game once the patch hits?
Am I good?… I’m good.
Best counter to thief in game once the patch hits?
All depends how it works. If it’s single target or relies on the pet to hit before putting revealed? Or if it’s only 4 seconds of reveal? Probably not worth slotting ourselves, let alone worth bringing a ranger into organized pvp for.
Best counter to thief in game once the patch hits?
pretty sure engis will still be better.
Anyway at OP: This game is designed and balanced around small scale pvp, one look at the skills and traits of every class shows that. Because rangers are not strong in one facet of the game, doesn’t mean they’re in a “sad state”.
really bad engineer
Even the trashiest guilds on my server (Gunner’s Hold) aren’t that colorblind. I don’t PvP a lot but my past MMO experience as limited as it might be shows that such guilds that embrace the meta as tight as these fools come to a point where they fail to addapt and get spanked on a regular basis by more creative groups.
Yeah Rangers are in a bad spot, no use denying it in tpvp and dps-crap-pve, but in a game where all classes are so mind-bogglingly trivial the difference isn’t as big as most of us make it sound.
I’ll wait the 15th to see if the balance patch will be any good. I’m already playing very very little, so if the oh-so-expected patch is just another disappointment I’ll just switch games again until nostalgia kicks in (I quit the game every other month for 1-2 months).
more deadly than any that walks this earth. Put aside the Ranger.
Become who you were born to be. I give hope to men. I keep none for myself.

You know, there is ONCE, although only ONCE, my guild ask me to switch to my ranger for raid since both our ele and engi is offline.

Ranger: you would have to convince me there is actually value in having a ranger in guild
I would love to get into the “GvG” scene just to understand why this all is. I think ranger could be highly effective in back lines rezzing and shutting down thieves and such. I also don’t get why engineers are there when coming from a pvp standpoint a group of engineers and rangers should be able to massacre everything with spam (granted retal is gonna suck on them nades).

Part of the problem is when a Ranger is focused, he’s dropped. On top of this, they don’t provide the kind of pressure a group wants. They either want burst damage to pressure a single target down or they want AE pressure to keep the enemy low. With no real burst to speak of and most condition application being either single target or trap/field with long cooldowns, it’s hard to achieve any real pressure.
GvG isn’t like sPvP where fewer than 5 people attack from a point and don’t want to leave. 5+ will come for you.
I can’t imagine a ranger dying easy when focused. Any decent ranger has enough evade to survive for a long time. We also bring a really nice rez elite. Though I do get the whole no aoe thing with such large numbers.
Am I good?… I’m good.
I don’t get why you people say rangers are bad right now. I have fought plenty rangers in wvw 1v1 or in group fight and they were pretty tough to take down. Just yesterday before the patch I fought this spirit ranger, dude murdered me. Even if I killed his spiris he just brought them back. He also healed like a mother with that troll heal thing.
Maybe rangers who say they are bad just need to learn to play.

Depends on the goals of the guild, if the guild is a WvWvW guild, then the Ranger is pretty useless, unless you’re guild runs around in 2’s and 3’s. But, in Zerg Work, Keep Work, large group work Rangers are at the bottom of the need list, we don’t do much group support or enough dps.

They have a pet mechanic that doesn’t work.
That same pet mechanic is justifcation for why their damage is below everyone else’s.
That alone is reason enough.

I’m not really part of the whole Zerg vs Zerg (I apologize but to me, GvG is an 8v8 game mode from guild wars 1 that doesn’t exist in guild wars 2) scene, but I imagine if rangers were to be used for a particular role, the main components of a build would be either to abuse piercing arrows or to abuse traps, or to frontline with a 1h sword or greatsword.
That being said, ZvZ players generally prefer heavies on the frontlines, and necromancers can take care of everything trap rangers can do at a farther range. The other thing I can imagine being a problem is retaliation absolutely destroying people trying to use piercing arrows for cleaved ranged support.
All of that being said, I don’t see the ranger as unviable. Just currently, the meta favors abusing tactics and mechanics like having near permanent stability, retal, and protection, which makes the whole gameplay of this player created game mode very exclusive for people that aren’t Warriors/Guardians/Eles/Necros.
At least that’s my perception of it. I’m still waiting for VoTF to prove me wrong and video themselves running a class other than the 4 I’ve mentioned.

Amusing.
I got that a lot too. And then, over time, I keep getting asked to join guilds after proving a player can make the different no matter the class. No bragging, but I will say you have to prove otherwise to the overall community.
Besides, you don’t want to join a guild like that anyway.
The guild leader wants you to stroke his ego . . . and maybe something else while you’re at it.
