The Never Ending Repertoire of Ranger Builds
Salt of the Earth {SALT} Crystal Desert© ~~Dragon Rank~~
As some of you know, I enjoy dueling. It is one of the essential ways of getting better. Learning other class tells, alongside making another class and playing it helps the learning process as well.
I’m curious about other Rangers input regarding this setup for after the patch drops.

Longbow will be your main source of damage. The Sword and Dagger setup is strictly for evading while your health regenerates. With the changes to Rapid Fire along with the Intimidation Training changes, you will be able to keep permanent Cripple on your enemy by taking advantage of the short 6 second cooldown of the Hawk and Eagle. Also, if Malicious Training affects the Cripple duration, you will be able to land a 9.75 second Cripple every 6 seconds. Your Swiftness up time will extremely high due to duel Birds as well.
If you time your pet and weapon swaps well, you can maintain 12 stacks of Might.
If you are going up against an MM, Turret Engie or Mesmer, you can swap out Eagle Eye for Piercing Arrows.
This is simply a theorycrafted build. Looking for input/suggestions. Thanks.

When pets were OP I used to run a http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fNAQJATRjEq0xa/Kusw1agDhqdJ8BjArA49WssX9FTsUF-TZBCwAAOEA+2fQcZgLXBgKPAAA and don’t think I really ever lost a 1 v 1.
Now, however I’d probably run 6 into NM instead of WS, I’d probably take intelligence and paralyzation on GS, would have to trait for quickness on pet swap.
The reason I used melandru was to keep the duration of condis down so empathic bond wouldn’t kill my pets before I could swap them, that could me changed now without using empathic bond.
Used double raven because they had the highest burst. Would bait dodges and stunbreaks with gs and lb then would combo muddy terrain + whatever -> F2 -> Wep swap to GS -> swoop -> swap pet -> Hilt bash -> F2 -> Maul.
Would one shot thieves and mesmers but you can still get ravens and stuff to hit for like 5-6k on their F2s.
I used soldiers because clerics left me with too low HP that I could get bursted down pretty easy and I found soldiers to be a nice middle ground (then again this was slightly adjusted to not just be good in 1 v 1 but also be useful in a tPvP settting). Soldiers also gave me a tad bit of dmg that I could still get like 3k rapid fire and solid GS dmg so I would have that little bit more to hit my target with my pets horrible pathing.
In the end, with what you have. I don’t think you will have enough dmg to kill anything with just a pet and a lb. Well, I never could, and I had a soldier ammy and OP pets.
So, what I would do… http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fNAQJATRjEq0xa/Kusw1agDhiVA8uYX2b29Q0CV9FTsUF-TpBCABAcEAo4QAoxFAIm9H6uMQFPAAA
But with the future update in mind, I would highly consider intimidation training like you suggested, I would also consider not using a doom sigil on my lb and instead I would use 30 in WS for poison mastery and not take empathic bond. Would take HS and SoR but that would be enough for me.There are options, but, they will require more skill than just a simple condi BM build. You could always just throw a higher dps ammy onto your build, change dwayna runes, and be fine. Yes, you will have lower sustain but if you swap a/d into say GS then if you LoS well, chain your CC you will have a lot more survivability than you think, especially with the stealth addition on LB which I never had.

Have you even read the post? Intimidation Training is more than 100% uptime on cripple, with frequent re-applications. Only profession which is able to completly ignore your cripple is Thief.
And that’s the main concern. If S/D remains as strong with no changes to #2 on Sword, at least in PvP area duels, he will have nearly on-demand uptime on you, regardless of how much cripple you apply. This build applies 3 conditions total, Cripple will be applied after bleeding I think, so it won’t be covered.
I consider Intimidation Training to be superior to anything on WvWvW or in some new game mode which won’t be Conquest as we know, (from dev interview). But for Tpvp with blinking Thieves (which are pain in the a** for your pet to even hit) and tons of bunkers, I really don’t know…
Well than play smart and use zerk ammy. The range of lb allows to use it, you just have to Keep the enemy away from meele.
Your Tools to do so: hunters shot, point plank, immob from spider x2, fear from doggy+ knockdown+cripple, muddy Terrain, lightning reflexes, gs block+knockback, swoop.
That is usually enough, at least for me.
And Yea, nm with sotf is better than bm for a lb ranger. I use pets for control Not dmg.
Edit: Yea i read his Post. I just think immob is way better than cripple.

even when you take into account extra damage done to crippled opponents?

Bonus Damage to movement hindered opponents which includes cripple/immob and chilled, so i would go for 1 Spider too
I think a glassbow ranger would crush this build. As in zerk rangers will kill you. Their damage will be so much higher from the same range.
The main problem I see with this build is, there is too much Uncertainity.
While crippling the enemy and kiting him from max range sounds goods, there are many gap closers which can both take your opponent close to you or let them escape from your range. Controlling an enemy on range is very kittence you lose your upper hand, there are many builds that can melt you down in a few seconds.
Second problem is condition removal.Signet of Reneval is not enough against condition builds IMO.
And finally, even with all improvements on AI, I don’t trust the pet at all… I think the spirit ranger would be better than this build if the purpose is duelling.
Edit: Yea i read his Post. I just think immob is way better than cripple.

This trait is Not slotted and i think he wont use it because u lose rtw (which is then also +10% dmg)
A proper lb ranger with enough condi removal (sotf) kills spirit rangers.
Here are a couple of general longbow builds that come to mind for the new updates:
This build provides a decent amount of survivability for running Zerker while still outputting a large amount of DPS and can be modified easily for 1v1, tpvp or wvw roaming.
This build is a signet variation with less survivability with the possibility of giant burst dmg potential on the greatsword with signet of the hunt activated and Maul. Also activating signet of the beastmaster for another dmg boost with quickness on petswap for stomps/rapidfire/barrage. Not to mention the pet attacks.. will be huge with full beast line and might on crit. BUT…If you get condis on you or found by a thief you are dead.. lol
