I know there’s a lot already but how about adding a few more for some “new” fun? Green Moa, Gold Moa and many other animals about the lands are pretty but can’t be tamed. Wouldn’t have to give them “new” powers or abilities necessarily but for color variety and what not it’d be nice.
Could also make the polar bear and eagle look…better. The polar bear, when tamed, has that not so nice looking stripes on its top part. The eagle looks always like a baby with no white head.
I love playing the ranger but feel a touch limited in color choices in some of the animals and wish some animals looked a touch different.

Well maybe they can make pet reskins and sell them in the gemshop.

I think that would be a great idea. Nice way to earn some revenue from people who want new skins, won’t change gameplay at all.

I would love to see more variety myself. Personally, I like the idea of taming pets, not trying to steal from other games…. But either way, I would like to see the ability to get almost any mob (that would make sense) as a pet. In other words, you can’t tame a Pirate, or Teq… But I would also love to see more exclusive and rare skins on pets. Either gated behind a series of missions, or just rare spawns throughout the world. Maybe a system that “evolves” your pet after you have played with them for so long. Pets can be a pain, and too much emphasis could lead to people feeling like it is the only spec for Rangers, but after all, a pet is the best companion a Ranger has.

I liked the system they had in GW1. There was only one way to tame a white moa. You’d have to enter and leave a city until a group of White Moas spawned, because they didn’t spawn every time. Then you had to run after and tame them. This wasnt difficult, but still not easy. And I was happy when i finally had my white moa … i called her Kormir.

Or the Jingle Bear! This christmas pet was only obtainable if you completed the wintersday story in EotN.

Still want a boa constrictor with strangulation on F2 called The Eye Popper.

They should have put them in the game for you to catch, with many different skins, some rare spawns, some hard to catch, some spawn from an event, some you get inside a dungeon, get in a raid or fractals and so on. Collecting such special pets is great fun. More fun than many of the events and it can keep a person busy for a while. It is exactly these kind of activities (also think about mini’s, toys and skins) that the games misses or replaces by currency-grind.

But I don’t see them putting it in, maybe they would put in a few more skins or put them in the gem-store. But that has no game-value, just some more grind.

But really putting it ingame in a way that is also fun to collect them I don’t think is going to happen any time soon. Anet fails to see the importance of that type of content, or simply is not able to implement it because they monetize that part of the game.

Exactly the same can be and should be done with mounts (Let’s say we would get them in the next expansion ). But I doubt they will implement mounts in that way. Looking how Anet did implement things before it’s more likely you will be getting your first mount easy and most other mounts you will be able to buy from the gem-store. What is a boring mechanic. Of course you can hope for an interesting fun implementation. But based on the track-record…

Yeah indeed, I spend lots of time in some other MMO collecting ranger pets. Some you could easily get but of course you did go for the special ones that required special ways to get them. Lots of fun. Now that is how you keep people busy during a ‘content drought’.

First and foremost I would like ANet to address the unsatisfactory state that core pets are in… everyone and their mum’s brown dog chooses the HoT pets over them for obvious powercreep and a lot of the core animations are so obvious/slow/underwhelming…

Secondly, I’m all down for pet reskins and stuff. Like the wolf have 3 different skins.. snow, black and maybe a woodland/desert color if that’s what you meant? At least it gives more personal aesthetics; variety is good!

I was sad when the Smogscales in Draconis Mons didn’t turn out to be tameable.

its not like they dont add new pers with expacs but sure if they can add more skins for pets and earn money that way then sure

New expansion = new pets. I mean why the ranger would get new pets that affect its gameplay while other classes would stay with the same stuff ?
I mean then Engis should have new turrets, mesmer new clones and so on.

How about more USEFUL ranger pets. Only a pinch of their pets are remotely useful & it’s disgusting. Why even have a hyena? it has a buddy. that’s it. Don’t even bother with underwater pets since underwater combat will NEVER be expanded upon. The pets you get don’t even progress as far as their growth like in GW1 where you could have either an epic dire wolf or a cowardly hound depending on what you did in battle; it even would grow in size!. GW1 had alot of better elements that GW2 didn’t follow which is a huge waste & shame.
I’d rather have a bucket full of pets that were useful than new pets that are just an aesthetic to a ranger that will never be used in combat.

Exactly, the majority of rangers are running the same pet as each other. Hands up any level 80 ranger whose primary pet when out and about is not a drake or a wyvern. Collecting all pets is almost pointless except as a collection itself.

After they added the Reef Drake in Southsun Cove, I was pretty much expecting each map to bring a new pet, but was sorely disappointed

Rework pets by families and give 1 of each to the ranger level 1. And let us choose the active from a selection defined by family. in F2

It would be good to be able to choose also a second F skill with a list of “utilities” based on the family, combo fields, knockbacks… in F3

attack my target should become a switch to rotate between attack my target and return to me, when hold should show a ground target to make the pet Guard that area. in F1

And the rest how it is now. I think if we as players could have this way more control over the pet such as path (using the guard function), or being able to call the knockbacks when needed would make them bearable.

But this has been said for hundred times from before even HoT and no changes were done.

Accept it or not but fashion wars 2 is kinda end game of gw2. For moas or other pets i would agree with OP that new skins would cool and a Petreskin function for PvE would be sweet. But i would like to see skaal, skelk, windriders and the basilisk (as a drake) as new pets on the game.

More pets equals more balance issues when we start talking about any form of different or unique attack. If they went with some form of common attack or buff then it could be possible.

If nothing else, how about granting us the annoying but wondering pack of pocket raptors That is what I’m after. Or give us a trap that we can lay, that is a small crate and when triggered BAM – little guys attack.

I accept that I personally don’t give 2 kitty Katts about Skins.

If I did care about the fashion of a game, changing the color alone or a simple “Skin Change” wouldn’t do it for me.

Just a swarm of pocket raptors as the actual pet would be great! Counting as a single pet of course, and very glass cannon.

Honestly I don’t really care about new skins, it would be better to make the pets look more realistic. Have you seen the wolf? It has an overbite, wolves don’t have overbites, makes them look stupid. I’m ok with them making more pets, but they should work a bit harder on them.
