What’s humorous is that we’re the only ones that know. Like, it hasn’t even made this weapon a “thing” or a meta yet. That’s how not gamebreaking it is, that nobody has even noticed or complained about it being OP or too strong.
Honestly, that tells you right there where balance is at with our class. Like with Dhuumfire, people knew a few hours after patch how broken it was and called for nerf. Same thing with Healing Signet.
But this?
Nope, no problems, hasn’t shifted the performance of rangers in anybodies minds in the slightest lol.
It’s even funnier to me because, let’s assume with a full pvp zerker build, it’s around 50% chance, 50% damage. That’s a straight up constant 20% damage increase over time from the longbows output, and nobody has even noticed or said anything about our longbow as far as a noticeable difference in performance goes.

A while ago you could exploit a variety of things with Ranger, like stacking 1min+ of regen/fury with pets, or abuse a mechanic to spam pet f2’s by resetting their cooldowns. And even then I didn’t get the sense that Ranger was OP with that kind of stuff factored in. If you want that giddy feeling of brokeness and the ability to wonder “why am I getting away with this?”, just roll a PU Mesmer. Ive seen players facerolling in WvW just running around without armor on with that spec.
Apparently the latest patch has made added another bow bug – the shortbow does popgun damage.
Thread in general, someone said his SB was doing 12-16 against enemies in a lvl 3 zone where the pet was doing 2-300.

I tested LB + eagle eye with zerker for a while yesterday and it doesn’t seems OP, at all.
The dps has improved, but it’s still lower than most Thief/Warrior weapons.
I think Anet should keep it like that and give the same thing to sword/great sword
It’s not really noticeable because Rangers were able to get fury from Rampage as One, Call of the Wild (warhorn 5), Furious Screech (Red Moa F2), Furious Grip (on weapon swap trait) and to some extend, Beastmaster’s Bond (on pet low health)
So with the extra effort Rangers were already able to do this (in bursts), now it’s just permanent and easier by requiring less effort and less investment.

Incoming nerf to ranger proximity. Whenever multiple rangers are close to eachother their dps is divided proportionately to how many rangers there are. “Close” is defined as 10k radius.

So… the Longbow only was popular and powerful for a brief period of time thanks to a bug. And even that way, nearly no one noticed.

you were talking about cooperative developement; and here you have it: the whole ranger-community screams to not fix this!!!! it doesn’t ruin the game, it’s not gamebreaking, it’s just a little bit of some extra-dmg which is pretty much only effective in pve…. and srsly, rangers aren’t in a not good shape concerning dungeongroups and stuff….
listen to us and find a solution… maybe put a cooldown on it, as some of the posters have mentioned…. but in the name of your players: don’t screw us (again!)

But we get the +range..
Still Warriors are getting 20% skill recharge reduction and might stacking without ICD while we get only 20% skill recharge reduction..
But we get 20% to shortbow too..
I will say it again, since its not gamebreaking and its good for Rangers i cant find any reason to not keep it..

What other said, Leave an ICD on it, It actually makes Longbow fairly decent…But I don’t agree that we should be able to Rapid Shot someone and have 21 seconds of fury.

Thank you for handling it about as poorly as it can possibly handled.
Understood that there are certain restrictions about what you can and can’t talk about, but unless you (or somebody who can talk about it) makes some sort of PR move and explains why the current iteration is broken (it may seem obvious, but perception != reality) and where the longbow currently stands from a development perspective and how, if any, improvements or improvement discussions are on the list of things to do, then:
Ranger community meltdown and even more negativity being thrown at the devs than ever before in 3… 2…1.
I think poorly handling it would have been staying quiet, and after its fixed come on the ranger forums and say something like: “Allright all you professions, everyone without Fury on their Longbow autoattack take one step back….. you too Ranger.”
At this point longbow need to stack might on self when attacking so to actualy make it on par with Greatsword. Longbow is a sniping weapon. it deserve sniping damage Longbow should be our second most damaging weapon in the list yet one sword beat it big time and Greatsword overshadow it by far. what in the word R A N G E R does the dev not understand. Longbow marksmanship sniping style was the heavy damage ranger weapon in gw 1 it deserve to get that spot back again.

I’m not saying it wasn’t necessary. I’m saying it’s bad practice to have left it in as long as possible, and then just remove it with nothing but a simple dev confirmation that it’s being removed, without any actual discussion with the ranger community with where they actually think the longbow stands.
Because, if the thread wasn’t apparent enough, there seems to be a very huge disconnect between where the devs think the weapon stands and where ranger players think it stands. It would be nice to get a “Ranger CDI” and have them actually try to bridge the communication gap a little so rangers aren’t always up in arms towards the devs, and the devs feel a little less hostility when they come on the forums.
If there is no follow up to the issue, then even though we all know it wasn’t working as intended, the people who felt that the improvement was a necessity for the weapon to hold it’s ground are going to remain that much more distrusting and unsatisfied with ANet as a developer.
I would just think that in the grand scheme of things, the goal of a developer shouldn’t be to kitten off your players, especially when it could be alleviated with a simple discussion, where in all a dev has to do is either confirm or deny that the weapon is not in the spot it should be, and then if it needs buffs, say “we are looking to buff the longbow in the future to make it a more diverse, interactive, and effective weapon.”
We understand you obviously are in favor of this bug…I mean I would be too on my Ranger. The point is that it was an unintended change and we are obligated to fix it. We were just talking and one thing we do want to do with Ranger is find more places to place Fury. A lot of these posts are just erratic emotional responses filled with tons of hyperbole. The Ranger isn’t going to “go back into being useless” because of this fix, because it’s already strong. Sure it has it’s flaws like all classes but it is one of the top classes in PvP and in PvE it is competitive with top burst damage. It’s got better support than many classes and it has probably the best elite in the game. I mean it’s got an 87% participation rate in the 2v2 tournaments that have been happening every weekend. What that means is that one was on every single team in the tournament except one.
Sorry I don’t have more time to chat but things will be getting better for the Ranger in the future. You can count on it.

Unfortunately that is just why and how ranger was designed and being changed in wrong direction.
You simply can’t judge the balance of a profession only by looking at 1v1 or 2v2 since GW2 is a MMO game……

Firstly, I will say that the Ranger being used in a great number of 2v2 tournaments is irrelevant to the balance of the class. Developers in balance have repeatedly stated that the game is balanced with a 5v5 match-up in mind, and that this includes all of the classes. Unless you are suggesting that this philosophy has changed (which would be very interesting to hear about!), I would argue that the 2v2 remark holds no water. Secondly, as to the PvE remark, you’re correct in that a well-built Sword/WH + Sword/Axe Ranger does burst as well as the rest (if not better), but note that none of this is with the Longbow. If you want to talk strictly the Longbow, where this new Fury was found, none of the competitive PvE specs run it and it could totally use the help from something like great Fury uptime. You’re certainly not wrong in any of the things you say, but there are issues with the weapon sets that keep them from really giving ample diversity to the players of the class, and those things are what drive the erratic emotional responses you’re seeing in this thread.
That said, at least the Ranger isn’t in as bad a position as the Necromancer as far as problems with it unrelated to PvP strength, so that’s something.
