Pets don’t scale with ascended gear (10% bonus stats, pets are designed around exotic gear baselines). Pets can’t achieve the 220% crit damage bonus players themselves can, even with the trait on (they only gain a pitiful 300 ferocity) BM. Pets don’t benefit from runes or sigils, or food or potions.

Pets don’t share in on the master’s boon unless we pay a traitline for it. It’s absurd. A warrior doesn’t have to be forced into a traitline just so that a percentage of his damage benefits from boons.

Pets lose boons on pet swap, which makes all these on pet swap traits garbage because in order to gain a benefit you are gimping your own damage by swapping pets as your new pet loses those 25 might stacks that another class gets to keep.

A % of ranger damage, for which a ranger pays a tax on all his power-based weapons, simply do not scale like other classes.

A warrior in full zerker benefits from 100% of his gear, food, runes, and sigils.

That 220% crit damage bonus on a warrior applies to the entirety of his damage. This does not work for rangers.

This is why ranger DPS builds simply aren’t competitive.

We have the greatsword autoattack doing about 1/4-1/5 the damage of a thief’s autoattack damage.

A thief’s autoattack on staff does 12k damage without might stacks. Our autoattack on mainhand sword does like 3k at best.

A maul is critting for 6kish without might stacks, that’s about the crit damage of a revenant’s autoattack, on a skill with a cooldown and an obvious telegraph and delay. Hell, compare Maul to Gravedigger (and power necromancers are bad already).

Pet’s are hitting for like 1.3k autoattacks on average. They don’t even come close to closing the DPS gap a power ranger has compared to other power based builds, the only class worse off being mesmer.

Pets have remained in a miserable state for pretty obvious reason: PvP. PvP people have always hated losing to pet specs.

So if you won’t buff pets to make rangers competitive in PvE DPS, you NEED to buff the ranger base damage and cofficients on the greatsword and sword. Their DPS is truly pitiful.

That’s not including our dreadful weapon traits. Greatsword training is a miserable 3 second fury on a 10 sec cd. For comparison, warrior’s greatsword trait gives them an average 15+ stacks of might without cooldown on 100 blades, which has the same cooldown as Maul but hits for 3-4 times the damage (which is what matters in PvE, mobs don’t dodge 100 blades or Vault).

We’re still stuck with dreadful minors like Opening Strike, which will NEVER trigger more than once in a boss fight or raid/dungeon encounter without investing on a Grandmaster trait.

Please do something about ranger DPS and their incredibly weak weapons other than the longbow. I also don’t understand why mesmer greatsword and ranger longbow have range limitations for their optimal damage when my revenant gets a ranged DPS weapon that crits for 6-7k, pierces baseline, and Coalesce of Ruin hits for 12-13k on a fraction of the cd of a Rapid Fire or Illusionary Berserker cooldown.

So many outdated weapons and traits, forgotten pet balance passes to make anything more than cats and dogs viable pets, because all we received with this expansion was a healbot spec and Grace of the Land.

The rest is mediocre, as it has been for 3+ years.

Yay another tl;dr pet thread.
Or is it really another xclass-does-more-dps thread?
