Violette Glory [Warrior]
Bala Rama [Herald]
I’ve been willing to try the Ranger for a while now, though I’m a little discouraged by people saying it’s the worst class, and it’s severely lacking in general
I mainly like to play WvW [zering] and some basic PvE (Daily dungeons and world bosses), how do you think the Ranger fairs in these situations?
Also, whats your opinion on this build? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FK-am_tZ0K0
Looks like the playstyle I’ve been looking for, but I have no indication on how good is this build, since I’m completely new to Ranger [Been playing for over a year now, have most classes at 80]
Thanks in advance
Ranger isn’t the worst class nor the ‘best’ class out there, but it’s a class that’s rather fun to play.
Pro’s :
- great combo’s of ranged and melee weapons, plenty of choices
- pets : deal a significant amout of dmg and can act as tanks or debuffers or buffers
(condi clean, giving might,…etc)
- lots of trait choices according to build : tank/dmg dealer/surivival build/…
- ranged. Best part about it really.
Cons :
-not asked a lot on dungeon runs
-can be a bit of a pain in survivability in certain instances (full zerk, lower hp)
-pets cannot be completely disabled
As a zerk ranger you’ll deal plenty of damage and will mostly take mobs down before they reach you. If in melee range you can always weaponswap (like in the video).
They do pretty well in WvW (depending on build), but can also easily be taken out if they’re not aware of their surroundings.
They’re also pretty good on world bosses because of their range and their healing spring (just take a look at Jormag/Teq positionings)
I think you will find a ranger a challenge but quite easy to play once you’re used to it.
Have fun.
Ranger is fine, for me – it’s the most comfort-zoned class with insane range on traited longbow. True what is said above, in dungeons people rarely accept rangers (that’s because 90% of ranger-players are simply bad.) In zergs you’ll basically stick to your longbow, perhaps you’ll like the axe, in mainhand, to tag enemies for bags. ;D
As for the build you’ve link, that’s the “glass” one, with defense mechanism being your own reaction time and knowledge of other classes. Pve and pvp needs to get used to as ranger, if you atleast want to survive the encounters.
