I’m talking about the ranger pet of course. This unique mechanic to the class is the source of power, as well as weakness.

The Power
Pet stats and attributes are independent of gear.
This is why rangers excel at control or support roles. You can gear for it without sacrificing some important stats. Pet stats are constant and depending only on the type of pet and one trait line.
Pet is independent from me. It can be doing one thing while I am doing another thing. One can be effected by conditions and controls while the other kills you.

The Weakness
Pet stats and attributes are independent of gear.
Every class would feel weak if half their gear were lvl 80 whites. This is how rangers run around. Pets are supposed to be half your dps and stuff, yet you can not upgrade it. I can max out beastmaster, but is it the same as having exotics in all slots? I don’t think so, since you can max it out at lvl 40. Also pets dont benefit from sigils and runes on-hit-effects and such. Also, unless traited for it, my boons don’t effect half of “my character”. No other class needs a trait “boons are 100% effective now”.

TL;DR Pet stats should depend on your gear to make rangers viable beyond just support and control. I think engineers were in a similar situation with kits recently, now its time to fix it on rangers.

Please no. Lack of scaling makes supportive beastmaster builds, like mine, viable. I do not want my pet to have a boatload of healing power, especially not at the expense of other stats.

No. Stupid Idea.

Only Viable build would Be Zerker with some PTV gear for surv and eventually condi build.

Just let them fix pets and it will be fine. stop complaining on one of besr MMO’s in general mechanics – having a pet !

It’s a complicated issue.
Having your stats reflect directly on the pet means that either you have to nerf base pet stats, or you end up with OP pets.

What should be done imho, is give a more deep pet interface, where you can actually either:
- Spend “pet points” to select which stats to boost, or even maybe which attacks to upgrade (not gonna happen, we can’t even have permanent pet names…)
-Give your pets standard gear (no rares or exos because it would become too expensive)
- Equip directly your pets with stat collars, in the same way as medallions work in spvp.

In all honesty, looking at how anet REMOVED features from pet customization in beta because it was too complicated for the average braindead casual player they’d like to appeal to, none of the options is likely to happen. IF we ever get a buff to pets it will most likely be a straightforwards, boring, linear boost with no interaction possible.

No, this would ruin my damage build in sPvP! If my Moa became as glassy and useless at support that I am he’d be useless to my allies on the capture point as I DPS their squishies from a safe distance!

You should choose a pet to -compliment- yourself, not match yourself!

I see people that don’t want it to change utilize a specific build which the current setup favors. However this is pushing the ranger into a certain role with no alternative playstyles. I thought every class should be viable for all playstyles…

You don’t need to be support…. I know my ranger build in sPvP is a glass canon, i -could- bring a jaguar and go for super 1337 DPS, or a bird, but i choose to take a moa instead because it’ll be able to be in the team fight constantly supporting my allies.

That’s -my- decision, i was running the jaguar but thought my group as a whole benefited more from a moa. If i wanted to be a super bunker i’d take a blue moa + a brown bear for prot + condi removal and 2 very very very sturdy pets with 30BM that i can throw infront of me to take a ton of blows for me.

Just because it’s popular to NOT use a pet that wont mimic your play style doesn’t mean you HAVE to do so. We have more options because we can choose to let our pet mimic us or compliment us.
