Guys, it is rare for a representative of the company to give us any kind of information about what may be coming up as far as changes, tweaks , buffs and nerfs. This is why. People set expectations way to high and begin frothing at the mouth (or I guess the fingers) when what comes to pass falls shy of those expectations.
After the full blown meltdown some people seem to have had, why would they ever want to slip us tidbits of info again? You were given some vague information and some hints of things to come and expanded on it significantly. This is why it is rare to see communication from community reps that give you any direct information. We have behaved ridiculously here. I will honestly be surprise if anyone tries to slip us anything other than ‘good things are coming EVENTUALLY’ based on the over the top reaction already exhibited here.

We don’t want tidbits of information, we want to know why there are 2 people working on class balances and why Warriors and Engineers and nearly every other class got some significant changes while all we got was Harpoon damage increased by 50%.
My expectations of them fixing our utility skills was NOT a 10% increase in chance for a 100hp spirit to give me 2 seconds of +10% damage.

He didn’t slip any tid bits of info. He basically said in response of weeks and thousands of posts we have a big update for you guys coming.
Its only logic that you think oh really finally our input has been heard and they are addressing issues with our class…..
Instead we get a whole bunch of pretty much useless underwater skill changes. And NONE of the changes we really needed….. oh right spirits have more hp now and can move if you trait into a worthless tree 30 points…. news flash they still get one shot lol…
They didn’t address any real issues that make this class bad.
-pets cant move and attack
-arrows can be dodged
- weapon damage in general is just horrible for ranged
What happened to the bit about changing the pacing and feel of some weapons? Oh right they made changes to underwater weapon skills….. /facepalm

More information not less would have solved the problem.
They gave little to no idea of their intent and progress, leaving it up to hope and speculation.
Giving an idea of where they stand and where they are on achieving it would have stopped any shock by this patch.
Making people sit here waiting for something to happen, because they don’t like playing a class as is, then having implied some mysterious big change is coming addressing everything they see wrong with the class… which quite obviously builds up hope… only to be terribly let down, is the road to bad relations…
It doesn’t mean that there should be less communication, in actuallity it should be a yell out that there should be a lil more.
So many people latched on to this game before launch because the devs seemed willing to speak about what they were doing and why, that has quite literally in every sense disappeared.
If their changes make any lick of sense, intelligent forum go’ers will pick up on it, point it out and odds say if anything legitimate criticism will form, making forums more than a place to whine (but tragically I’m see’ing less people come here to actually promote any intelligent discussion… so it honestly might be a lil too late)

Poof! Someone called and I am here. We made some ranger changes this patch, but had to go back on them because of risk factor. There are some bugs being fixed and quality of life improvements coming in the next patch, as well as some other significant ranger improvements. I would Literally tell you but I think it would be considered a bit of a spoiler so you will have to be patient.
While we work hard to keep updates going on all professions, not very build us going to contain fixes for everyone due to the nature of software development. One problem with rangers is the lack of build diversity created by a number of sub par utility skills. Many signets, a shout or two, and spirits are all a bit lackluster. That is the first place to expect improvements. Second is trying to improve the feel/ pacing on some weapons.
Ok I can’t type more with tiny phone finger keypad. See you in game!
Do tell how the wording in this representative’s message does anything BUT raise expectations.
The main issue with them not giving detailed info on the upcoming changes is that they won’t get any feedback beforehand.
Imagine they said last week that they were going to buff underwater damage. What would they receive – yes, feedback, that instead of fixing what is not broken, they should deal with pets instead.
They’re introducing changes, yes – but that’s not the changes people need really. So they’re wasting those poor 2 guys time on irrelevant garbage instead of fixing real problems.
He lied and is now trying to back pedal. So if I was to advertise I was selling a corvette online for 500 and you showed up to pick it up and it was a pinto should you just take your pinto and smile saying “oh that’s ok I know you meant well” ?
His new excuse is 2 devs working around the clock and they just didn’t have time … they sure had time to buff classes that were in a much better position then rangers.
It the complete lack of respect for the community, if they want respect and to be given praise then maybe they shouldn’t treat the ranger community like a bunch of morons that will believe any amount of BS they spew.
“Hey guys, we realise Rangers are just on not the competitive level compared to basically ever other profession and have decided to even out the playing field”
Oh yeah, that’s not going to get people’s hopes up. The underwater “buff” is a spit in the face more than anything, we rangers were already perfectly fine underwater. To rub salt in the wound, warrior receiving a damage buff to longbow just sticks out like a sore thumb..
Check out the Elementalist forum complaining about not being able to get 25 stacks of might + massive AOE heals up with unintended blast finishers in combo fields on every dodge.
Or the part where they complain the bug fix where they were unintentionally able to get stability from Tornado and then just cancel the transform – now that it has been fixed has the same functionality as the Avatar of Melandru ..
ANET is getting rich as hell of gw2 and cannot afford to hire some kitten de-buggers? I don’t buy his sob story. I think Rangers and Necromancers have gotten the short end of the stick since the beginning of this game, while the other classes have steadily increased in their utility and power. I am sick of waiting for anet to wake up and fix bugs. I have 0 motivation to do their stupid new content when my class is ridiculously kittened. I will not spend a single coin more on this company until they actually address issues. As for rangers, I deleted mine. I dont even want to think about going back to it.

This, every class apart from Ranger has been slowly improved, while the weakest from release was slowly getting worse. I had high hopes for this patch because for once, they actually where open with us and it becomes into a nerf instead. Good grief.

Not that I don’t feel your pain but Engineers got nothing but tooltip fixes and nerfs. Not sure why you envy us exactly.

To be fair, this is also after we received 0 updates last round and were told that they were coming in full this time around.
It’s like dejavu all over again. Anyone who has played this type of game has seen this scenario repeat itself over and over.
Patch is on the way. Fanbase makes post after post of what they think is going to be changed and improved. Hype overdrive.
Patch is installed …and everyone is upset, underwhelmed and threatening to quit.

Lies.
Every class has been getting hit in some way lately.
We just were the worst off to start and had quite literally nothing buffed.
(read the patch notes… tank eles got hit hard, mesmer phantasms got hit, theif S/D got hit HARD, bunker guards got a few bugs fixed (nerfs) and protection nerfed… just off the top of my head)

This.
Rangers has not gotten their fix at all, but there has bin nerfs and dissadvantage bug fixes for almost all the other proffessions. Why Anet advertise huge improvements on Ranger and fail to give anything is another matter.
Also, the underwater fix, it seems this was planned already for all proffessions, so I understand why we got it as well. The pain here is that Anet seems to have the wrong focus on what to take care of first. Warrior gets more and more buffs improvements, good for them, but they didnt needed it now, they are not frustrated, Rangers however needs ALOT of re-doings, fixes and bug removals and received nothing of importains.
This will be the greatest threat to this game, the common frustration will increase alot from now on, it makes me sad, cause the forum seems to become a fighting arena with no winners at all.

They were honest with the nerf none of this ‘its a fix’ crap or spam 1 is not fun hand wave. I envy that kind of here is the nerf deal with it honesty.

I think the patch is a joke

Tragic. Absolutely tragic patch.
As to the original poster: the community was not overhyping this patch and they were not setting expectations too high. They were hoping that the words spoken by Jon Peters would be remotely true. Read deeper in the the plethora of threads and you will find that a huge majority of us were hoping for just a sliver of goodness. We were not hoping for a complete overhaul of the class. Many of us were just hoping for one or two of the major issues with the Ranger profession to be fixed or improved.
ArenaNet couldn’t even deliver on that, in fact, they slap us across the face, tell us our two big weapons “are in a good place” (I.E. sword and longbow) and then BUFF the Warrior’s LONGBOW! The LONGBOW! The weapon that most of us identify as The Premiere Ranger Weapon was buffed by the class that wears heavy armor and can use a gun!
ArenaNet sickens me more than any other MMO developer to date.

I’m sorry, but it is NOT the player’s fault that Jon came to us before a big patch was supposed to hit, telling us that we were getting significant changes, only to find that when the patch hit, that the changes were… not significant at all. He and his team has to shoulder some kind of blame for working us up like that.
I’m just taking this whole thing in stride, maybe with a bit of gallows humor, but other than complain or re-post “changes I/we/you want to see threads” What can we do? Maybe organize a mass ranger-only meet up/downed fest in the middle of water somewhere. Imagine all the floating rangers just disrupting the scenic views.

Stop saying every other class got significant changes as if they were positive. There were nerfs in those notes as well.

ALL ranged weapon damage is bad, if you want to go balls to the wall with damage YOU DONT USE RANGED, for ALL profs ranged =/= best damage, for ranger you’d probably want shortsword+ torch if you’re going for the most damage you can pump out.
once again ALL arrows can be dodged, Anet have said that ranged is supposed to be better then ranged in damage/utility blah blah blah, but ranged would be more survivable because hey, things wont be able to hit you a lot of the time, especially if you’re using a traited longbow because you’ll be standing at 1500 range, which is the longest range ANY RANGED WEAPON can have.
And this “worthless” 30 point tree is what i spend 30 of my points in and NEWS FLASH!! they are amazing! You just need to be smarter then the average tree and place them somewhere strategic, unless you have natures vengeance like me and are going for the “Kill the spirit so i can get 2 of their actives off in rapid succession!” approach, you know…. seeing as how after the spirit dies you still can benefit from their effect for another 10 seconds, in that 10 seconds all my skills have a 50% chance of giving me protection for 1.5 seconds, and swiftness for 8 seconds…. yeah, soooooooo bad…
Guys, it is rare for a representative of the company to give us any kind of information about what may be coming up as far as changes, tweaks , buffs and nerfs.
No… this is absolutely INCORRECT. All I can guess is you’ve never played an MMO before. ANY and EVERY game that has PvP has learned (some sooner than others) that all tweaks and changes MUST be communicated to the player base, otherwise they have this sort of foaming-at-the-mouth crap. As a primarily PvE player I don’t notice so much, but the PvP’ers are just SO freaking sensitive to any sort of change…
This is why the better MMOs put up a test server, and then put proposed changes up well in advance of actual implementation into the general population – with players testing for them and gathering stats, outright bad idea changes can be nipped in the bud, and others, which just need adjustment, can be adjusted before impacting the population at large. I’m sure they’ll figure this out sooner or later. by then, the more “sensitive” PvPers will have gone elsewhere (maybe… possibly…) but hopefully they have a certain degree of attrition baked into the business model until then…

Well yes, so be happy you’re not a Mesmer or an Elementalist, and enjoy your – if small – buffs.

Here Here and Well said.

That proposes a real problem for ArenaNet, considering how much they pushed marketing about becoming a serious eSport MMO experience. BioWare did it on accident with SWTOR. They created an MMO with a PvP experience many hardcore players thoroughly enjoyed. In patch 1.2, they did sweeping “class balances” and destroyed the magic they unwittingly created. Many of those players, like the beloved Taugrim, came here to Guild Wars 2. (Surprise! He plays a Warrior and a Mesmer!)
Driving away hardcore PvPers would destroy what ArenaNet set out to do with this game.
