They said it was intended after lying about the animation bug. They said spamming “1” wasn’t their idea of fun. I’d be content with a projectile speed increase, but the attack speed needs to go back to what it was and they need to address the issue of QZ + Crossfire shooting like molasses, though they’ve been quiet since they introduced the nerf in the first place, so who knows. The other abilities need a damage boost, that was one of the broken promises, bringing the other abilities up to par with crossfire. We’ll see how that turns out.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
What are your thoughts regarding the general viability of the shortbow at it’s current stage? Reckon it will be buffed? or remain the same on the 14th patch? I’m starting to think that the animation nerf was intended and hence will not be compensated with extra dps due to the last patch.
Would like the see the general opinion of the gw2 community.
Why would it be buffed? From my personal experience, it’s the best weapon a ranger has.
I’m perfectly fine with the shortbow – it’s viable and fun to use in my opinion.
Haven’t played it before the “nerf”, though.
Shortbow is great, but i agree it shouldn’t miss at all against moving targets…so some projectile speed would be great.
I find the Shortbow’s #1 skill to have the exact opposite issue as the longbow; it is too kitten fast. The first skill spams at such a ridiculous rate that it does enough damage to make the other four skills it has completely redundant. When I play Ranger, I force myself not to use the shortbow because I feel it makes the class a mindless overpowered spamfest. I think it requires a nerf as soon as possible. An added bonus from nerfing the shortbow is that doing so would hamper the viability of about 90% of the game’s bots :p.

Duhh , the autoattack isn’t too strong, just the other’s skills have too weak damage output.
Also,
I think shortbow’s fine. It really shines when you have piercing arrows in tight enemy groups, as the fact that it doesn’t need to be at range like the longbow does means you can get into skewering positions a lot easier.
Shortbow is a great dueling-control weapon for single point damage.
2 is basically the only AoE of the weapon. but it’s pretty weak and is best used as a scatter shot shotgun, 3 is a dodge, 4 is to slow, and 5 is to stun. the design of the weapon is that it’s mainly supposed to do damage with auto-attack (which i’m perfectly fine with). imho the shortbow was nerfed because it was too good of a weapon for bots.
as it is right now though, the shortbow isn’t overpowered and i like how it’s used. only issue is projectile speed, but that’s also an issue with longbows.
It seems to me the issue with shortbow is all the other skills suck rather than 1 being overpowered. The 2 skill has horrible damage, the 3 is a very situational dodge too hard to time correctly, 4 is too slow and north worth using (the cripple may be useful in pvp), Only the 5 skill (daze) is admittedly decent for interrupting.
I say if we buff at least the 2 skill, it will be much better.
