Natures Ninja and Pain Inverter – Ranger PvP movies

I decided to run around with it, I actually fought very few thieves 1v1… This is probably cause SBI is currently fighting SoR and SoS… So not many travel solo….My main thing I wanted to test was if Reveal was a stackable debuff, Meaning if I popped Sic’Em right after they attacked from stealth would it be a 7 second buff (8 second SPvP) or would it simply Overwrite it.
I learn that it wasn’t stackable as far as a debuff, I think it may overwrite though but its really hard to tell in a fight.
My Suggestion would be, don’t use Sic’Em while the Thief has Reveal on himself, as you’ll probably waste it.
I did however run into quite a few fights where thieves were trolling people with D/P and such….in this case…Sic’Em is actually very very lame to have used on you if you’re a Thief.
Most D/P Thieves are fairly squishy, So if you time it right, you’ll cause their death pretty easily.. I know i ended quite a few engagements by trolling Thieves with it.
A lot of them simply don’t expect it either..Which is the hilarious part.
So if you’re a Bear Ranger, make yourself useful and slot this ability and learn to troll with it.
Beastmaster Rangers i wouldn’t recommend the ability unless you’re running Traveler Runes and can afford to drop Signet of the Hunt. You want SoR and Signet of the Wild Period….. But i could see Sic’Em being used as an alternative ability to Lightning Reflex, I recommend Spiders with it as well.. As they’re fairly good about hitting the target as well and thus making good use of the damage portion of it.
But yea, Not a huge game changer, Makes us more able to Troll Thieves though, which is always amusing.
A few thieves used this on me tonight. No big deal. They died. Then again, I don’t use the scrub permastealth build.
I just played it for trolling on my ranger for while …
it’s pretty decent on those kitteny thiefs who run in a pack of ppl and think they can escape with stealth.
ps : that also go with Mesmer or Engi who has stealth as trump card escaping too
(edited by Punny.9210)
It’s nothing really game changing, so it won’t effect the meta.
IF it were to be buffed to like a 8 second reveal it might have an effect (I mean the skill does have a 40 second cool down and all, 32s if traited; which would still provide the thief with like 24-32 second window of setting up. They would just have to get the ranger to blow the debuff early on, kite for a few seconds, stealth and then bam…)
Ranger’s can be a bit more useful in groups now when dealing with thieves.
Its not a game changer, but you can be annoying with it.
I actually laughed pretty hard tonight, I saw a Thief pop on a fellow Ranger, and this Ranger also seemed to be running Sic’em…So She popped him with it, and he tried to get some distance, and soon as it ran out I hit him with it again, and he died before he could stealth.
I imagine he was raging pretty hard about that.
Still not useful enough
had fun with it too. 5 thiefes were camping our bl spawn. we were 3 ppl killing one after another.

this is outrageous !
if they have reveal debuff on them because they came out back stabby stabby, and I put sick’em on them it should stack duration
:( I was one of the many Thieves who fell victim to it tonight. It reeks of shoddy game design and it’s just so ridiculous that I can still hardly believe that Anet actually listened to the QQing and created an unavoidable stealth counter rather than just encouraging players to learn the already existing counters.
Sounds like a niche skill you’d swap to as and when you need it, rather than having it on all the time.

I’m so sorry to hear that. Where can I send the flowers to?

I think the idea is that being revealed is a temporary state, with a timer based on when the thief entered that state.
If you make it stack in duration, then it’s acting more like a condition. And people could argue that it should be removable like a condition.

It’s just encouragement for you to learn the already existing methods of staying alive in combat when you’re low on hp that all the other (non-stealth) classes have to use.
Always have a plan B. If your plan A (stealth) was so good that you never had to develop a plan B, that means plan A was OP.
Do you need a target to proc it or does it work like an aoe shout?
You need a target.
the promised support buffs for the ranger did not occur. or rather, they were pathetic. wvw is all about support. if you want to 1v1, just go to spvp. Sic em has absolutely no purpose in WvW because larger engagements do not revolve around 1v1’ing thieves/mesmers. no good wvw ranger will be using this crap outside of trolling as you said.

As a thief I think this is great. Perhaps it will purge the scrub perma stealth thieves who abuse game mechanics and give our class a horrible reputation. I enjoyed the fights last night. Bring it on!
Finally took down 2 mesmer with sic em. No more stealth! I will come for thief next while farming my badges. =)
i haven’t tested it properly yet. but when i read the patch notes i though that it was going good for what the OP said is was good for.
4s it not long enough to kill a troll thief solo, but it is long enough to kill a troll thief that is attack a small group trying to take a camp or something.
if it where to much longer it would take the advantage of stealth out of the game (that would be kinda nice) and be pretty over powered
I was running BM last night with sic’em. I caused more than a few thieves deaths. It was a lot of fun screwing with the scrub d/p thieves who think they are good by going 100% glass cannon and relying only on stealth.
Good thieves know how to survive still, bad ones die instantly.
1v1 it isn’t very handy, as the pet can’t really land any attacks on a thief anyways, and the thief can’t kill my ranger, as I am WAY too tanky.
It’s look like UAV on BF or CoD.
Spot enemy target and a lot of bloody thristy buddy go to murder it.
And last night is very nice to test it good.
I used it for about half an hour yesterday. I felt it didn’t add anything to my playstyle at all. All I was using it for was to pick off Thieves after a zerg was wiped to ensure they couldn’t stealth. Worse still is I wasn’t even the one killing them. It was just my job to make sure the 1 guy didn’t stealth so everyone else could finish them off.
While it’s great that this class has a reveal now, I’m not sure it has any legitimate value. It felt more like trolling :/
It definitely is a trolling fix. It was a shoddy addition to stop a perma stealth build that A-net doesn’t know how to fix. As it is, I will still use it, as I setup my BM build to have the extra utility to be able to slow sic’em (though it is fairly useless as a skill, as the pet has innate flaws landing attacks most of the time).
I tried it for a while in spvp last night, started to notice the thieves would stealth and leave the area if I was around. :p
It’s pretty minor in sPvP, i treid it out briefly, wasn’t impressed and dropped it, if it were either a longer duration, or an AoE, or better yet made your pets attacks apply cripple… that’d be great!

I can still hardly believe Anet created a degenerate, unremovable stealth mechanic on a class with no attack cooldowns rather than just encouraging players to learn how to play the game.
I don’t get it. Wouldn’t it be better to apply 3 seconds of daze with technobabble than 4 seconds of reveal?

Reveal’s not a condition and can’t be removed or shortened as such.
Still not useful enough
QFT to little to late
I don’t play as much as you all, but I was able to stop a thief from stealthing to get his free stomp, and he just stood there for a moment while my pet pounded him (obviously confused). He tried to get away, but enough people came up to finish him fast.
I like the skill. :-)
used it against thieves. Not impressed . They can just teleport out .

The smart ones can. The perma stealth Easy Mode thieves will die far too easily.
I’m still using it along with Lightning Reflex (My Pet keeps being out of range of SoR active which annoys the kitten out of me, Its much easier with Melee Pet then Range Pet)
I’ve found that while its not super amazing for other classes, It’s not super bad either…and completely ruining a Thief’s day by dumping Spider Conditions + Mine (Malicious Training on Spider is still just silly, I can stack bloody 30 seconds of Cripple on someone in seconds) Then popping them with Sic’EM when they hit half life, Chances are they’ll pop Last Refuge on themselves giving them even more reveal and making them cry inside.
It would be better if SicEm actually forces them out of stealth, EG when the thief cast shadow refuge, using SicEm after he has casted gives the revealed aoe debuff. Awesome way to mitigate shadow refuge res or stealth stacking.
The animation and cast time for SR is too short to use SicEm as it is now since it will only work if you have a target.

You can use wolf for that situation fear them !
Lol, I was trolling some thieves really hard with TB build today.
whenever i’d run into a thief i’d swap out SoR for Sic’Em
Open with Shortbow stun soon as they went to stealth, then i’d TB them.. which is 5 seconds of daze, and then they’d be low enough and go to stealth i’d pop them with Sic’Em ..
Couple of them stayed completely unstealthed the entire fight because I kept screwing with them.
