Q:
To Melee Power Rangers
My thoughts:
- For a pure power build you have too little power so its not worth going pure power. Instead, you could get much better results adding some more crit chance and crit damage in there.
- Dwayna Runes Seem Redundant if you are going to use guard for perma regen. I know you are trying to hit Healing Power Breakpoints and the regen duration/proc on heal are nice but I think another rune set would be better for you. There are other ways you can make up on some healing per second.
- I feel the axe is still kinda blah. a skilled opponent can dodge or avoid path of scars to easily as its flight speed is too kitten slow. Its like watching paint dry…..better off with another offhand. I personally went with dagger because I felt I needed more CC to keep opponents in range.
If having guard is a must (I have moved away from it already for the most part) here is what I would try:
Make sure you get bloodlust stacks with this build as the power is below the 2k mark base. I personally would drop the dolyak runes for the runes of the forge since regen builds have to be carefull of heavy spike. The nature’s protection change may be enough for some but for others maybe not. Up to you.
Muddy terrain mixed with dagger offhand and hydromancy sigils are critical for keeping in melee range. It can be hard with just GS and Sword staying in damage range against skilled opponents (especially other rangers). These additions will help. The sigil change also fixes the problem you had of having two weapon swap sigil on the same weapon set. Only one sigil would have been active.
I think healing spring is the better heal. For kitten’s sake you have two leap finishers to use in it, it can clear conditions, and ping some regen. Always remember to double penetrate (jump from start of field and all the way through the field) the healing spring with the greatsword for a double leap finisher heal bonus. Added with the sword leap finisher that makes three total. With cleaver positioning and/or CC you can still damage your opponent with the leaps while healing.
So if my math is right you should have: 328 health/sec if you can keep guard up constantly.
If you don’t agree with the drop in healing power (even with runes of the doly helping with the healing per second) then feel free to try something else. However, you just won’t get the damage you need. In fact, I feel power regen builds just don’t cut it for damage output. I have tried and tried to get something I like but cannot come up with one I feel is very good. You will struggle against well played stealth professions. You will not be able to do enough damage quickly enough. That’s why I am working on other builds as I don’t think regen direct damage builds are worth it.
I was a ranger before shortbow had 1200m range AND after it didn’t…

For WvW this is approximately what I am aiming for:
http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-H;5Fku-g2ZDV-0;9;5OTE;204-39A5;9;0QitaQita20FwkH75;2VPVUWZXdYj3p_7T0PV4L09;9;9;9;9;9;9VRk3j
So in short:
High armor.
High power, 40% crit chance and a little above 50% crit damage.
A little over 500 healing power.
The traits are not set in stone, I often change them but I always keep 30 in Nature and I try to keep at least 20 in skirmishing for the precision and crit damage.
I still miss 2 ascended trinkets and the Valkyrie weapons.
I currently use Zerker weapons.
I am still not sure what sigils I’ll pick.
Now you have to know I just made a comeback to the game so I am not a pro at all.
GUFF thank you for your comments. We basically posted at the same time so I had not seen them yet.
Sigil of hydromancy seems a good option, especially since I was killed by a bow ranger just last night.
I did not knew a single leap skill could trigger 2 combos, I have to switch back to healing spring.
(Disclaimer: I will use the alternative names for secondary attributes, deal with it, they sound way better)
I don’t play WvW so I may be wrong. But Soldiers with a little Clerics seems bad. In my experience Compassion only works if you stack a great deal of it. Let’s say for power full clerics. In that gear you’ll survive, but won’t hit for much. For rangers Compassion works best together with Malice. I’d say for power you’d might be better of in a berserker+knights setup.
