To ranger or not to ranger?
I personally would never boost anything, but I like to enjoy games rather than just blow past the content.
Just ask yourself if you want to take your time with the game or if leveling and exploring is boring you. Do you want to get right to raids and WvW? Use the boost.

I do not exactly mind the leveling, I will probably make him/her something else than human just so I can start in a different zone. However, my question was mainly because I’ve recently leveled another toon but I see what you mean. Thank you for the quick reply.
Many games would make you clear the “home” area before exploring other regions, fortunately with Guild Wars 2 you can simply use the Asura Gate in your race’s home city to travel to Lion’s Arch and from there make your way to the region you want to explore first.
You’re hardly forced to play Sylvari because you want to explore Caledon Forest first.
That said I don’t think you get anything extra for popping the item on a character that is already level 80. I could be mistaken.

It’s not extra, but you do get the same semi-useful stuff like sharpening stones, food, gem store consumables, exotics, etc. Clogged up my inventory.
I would do it, you have to go through the content anyway, unless you just eant to get to a specific area.

A full set of exotics…which might be handy if you are strapped for gold/mats.
I’d probably level a ranger and save the boost for a class that’s a little more frustrating to get going.
The thing about ranger is you’ll probably want to explore the world to find your pets anyway, so you may as well level up while doing it rather than doing it all while you’re already at 80 (is how I’d see it).

There’s a lot of truth to this. I got a ton of map completion done on my ranger by going out to collect my pets. It’s a very travel-friendly class.
Travel-friendliness is a huge consideration IMO. You might want to save the boost for a toon that doesn’t have any permanent passive run speed increases, like guardian.
I would personally use a level 80 boost on either Revenant or Engineer, as those 2 have been the most tedious leveling experiences I’ve had. Revenant because they only get their speed boost with Herald at level 80, and engineer because of how the class functions it isn’t fun to level at all. (in retrospect, if I hadn’t been in a hurry to level up my engi, it might’ve been a bit more fun taking it casually)
Regardless, I think Ranger might just be the worst class to pick for the 80 boost, as looking for pets is a big part of rangering, and that goes conveniently during leveling. So take your time!
Sonya for females. (necro,rev,ranger,mes,engi)
All classes lvl 80.
On a new account, I did use the boost on a ranger. because
1. i like the class. in my top 3 of most fun. so i don’t mind using him to complete high level content.
2. i want to start the masteries ASAP to get the glider and other tracks (e.g. pact mentor).
3. being 80, you can go almost anywhere. that means you can get the pets you want (with few exceptions). especially the HOT pets are in level 80 zones.

I used the level boost on my Mesmer, simply because I had the remaining classes at 80 by doing it the normal way, and couldn’t be bothered to do it (again) on the Mesmer.
That being said, I enjoyed leveling my Ranger the classic way, while picking the occational pet on your travel through the zones. 25% movement signet never left my bar before I reached the the Druid talent.
What I found good on the 80 boost was the bags you get (if you haven’t crafted so far, or can’t afford the better bags on BLTP). The Strength, Vit, Toughness exotics, etc are better than nothing but certainly not something most would use out of free choice (even for “dedicated” Open World [Solo] builds, ignoring the “everything works” mantra)
