Anyone with a warrior/mes/guardian alt will tell you awful the current state of ranger is. It’s a joke.

The joke it’s people who use LB and brown bear and stay at max range without mooving.
I do 4k AA with my sword, a little less than 2k with my SB, some people do more because they run a more optimal build than me, but you have to learn how to play and dodge, it’s not like warrior wich you can make mistake and nobody notice, it’s not like mesmer wich you can make portal and pink bubble and everybody is happy, you bring precision to your groupe, you bring about 10%+ dmg 70% of the time, and nobody notices it because they have all in mind ranger= LB + brown bear and that sucks. They’re right, but because of people like that, other players can’t see how ranger is, and how good he could be with the person who can master it.

Part of the problem is that people are wedded to a notion of what a ranger should be, not what it is. The problem is that if you accept the play style of what a ranger currently is then you realise that practically every other class can do that a lot better than you can.

Absolutely THIS up here. When I read that people say how they want more DPS than a warrior, then please by all means make a warrior because that’s the class that’s doing high DPS all the time. But remember that a ranger can easily defeat a warrior in terms of combat mechanics not DPS, and has assets which are useful if used correctly. If you are indeed struggling to see your ranger top off other players then it would be a good time to consider your build or attack strategy. It’s a good time to take a step back, work on improving what you are doing, in order to make 5 steps forward. Now when your friend warriors DPS more than you, just remember, he also fails at things that you clearly will handle with much more ease than a warrior can.

Actually I think most people just want DPS to be higher than a ranger; there is a lot of room for improvement.

I think I’d be able to match my warrior’s dps in PVE with a full zerker build if the pet was able to attack the entire time. It might take some good might stacking on the ranger too though. My warrior doesn’t have much trouble getting above 20 stacks of might. The equivalent trait on the ranger only puts the might on the pet.

I’d really like an effect that makes pets really durable in PVE as long as they don’t top the aggro table. Basing it off of aggro would prevent them from being invincible tanks and ressers.

Nope, I’ve done just this. My warrior in Knights gear pulls out far higher dps than my fully berserker ranger. I can pull of 20K + in 3-4 seconds (with no might) on the Ranger. Thing is, my warrior in knights gear can do the same thing; in berserker gear, I can obviously pull out far higher. I havn’t tested kill shot though.

The thing is, Ranger’s aren’t bad, and they aren’t great (compared to other classes), but they are good in the hands of those who know how to play them. The pet being the #1 crutch. Your pet is either dead or being pulled out of battle to survive which immediately takes away 20-40% of the dps. No other class needs to worry about that. If you’ve spec’d into Beastmastery, then your drastically hurting your own dps at the expense of keeping your pet alive.

I’ve tested all the builds with all different types of gear, and the highest sustained dps with survivability actually falls with a Berserker Ranger carrying a LB. This is based on WvW, as I don’t do dungeons. How viable this would be in a dungeon, I don’t know, but it’s by far the best in WvW.

that build has very little survivability and the cd on the burst is extremely long but yes you get a lot of dmg with one attack, you need to wait over a min to do it again if you fail to connect or if you get blocked

ok lets stop this arguing for a sec and come to a consensus on one thing, Longbow is still a subpar weapon in all aspects of the game in it’s current rendition and lets get back to encouraging them to combine some of it’s skills and add some new ones to make it a lot better in PvE and PvP as well as WvW. The best builds we have don’t even use bows right now which is kind of sad I would like to see one of our bow builds be on top or be an equal option. I still use a long bow even though it is sub par because I like the bow/pet style gameplay not because I wanna be a bad as… even though I look like one…

SotH buff won’t get used up if the attack doesn’t connect. Also, that first big hit is more spike damage than DPS. Lastly, in PvE, survivability comes from being at 1200-1500 range. It’s much easier to keep out of red circles when you’re that far away. WvW is a different beast altogether.

“All” aspects of the game is a sweeping generalization. It has it’s uses during tower sieges/defense. Other than that, I will agree that it does need improvements. Mostly with arrow speed. I will have no issues with it if it can hit even more reliably at 1200 range and requires a bit more from the enemy than just moving left and right rapidly to dodge arrows. . The last arrow speed buff definitely helped, but it still feels lacking.

If we can get more options for snaring built in to the LB, I’d be very happy. Right now, all we have is either Sigil of Ice (for 2 seconds of frozen, 10s cd), or Predator’s Instinct (3 seconds of cripple when target is hit with less than 25% hp, 15s cd). Both comes at a cost that is not worth the trade off. Sigil of Ice procs the sigil cooldown, and is taking the slot for much better damage Sigils like Fire or Air, and Predator’s Instinct takes the slot for much, much better Marksmanship Adept traits.

More scaling to power would be nice to help out power builds, but I think the damage right now is workable, especially with the after cast buffs.

Not my build. Rangers have the ability to output great dmg. They just have to be played the way they are designed to play.

Chopps, dude, stop it. You are, frankly, not as good as you set yourself out to be. Nor is every single other player as bad as you claim. Rangers are in a bad place – not as bad as a month ago, but still, not good.

I used to main a ranger, and I still won’t bring one into a group for dungeons/fotm, unless they’re a guildy. I know exactly what rangers are capable of, and frankly there’s absolutely nothing that other classes don’t do at least as well, if not better.

You’re doing the community no good at all by pretending otherwise.

In the first 2 Betas, the Greatsword did quite a bit more damage and recieved a hefty nerf.

If ANET were to buff the Greatsword auto damage for us a bit again, this would allow for some decent melee damage while allowing us to pick the required 30/10 (Surv/Nat)to be tanky enough to survive in melee.

My second thought is that traits that are similar for sword and greatsword could be combined and +5% damage should be +10%.

eg.Trait for 10% damage with Greatsword now works for sword too. Cooldown for Greatsword now works for Sword too.
