Trap Detonation
Good Idea. Just another key binding process and it would work.

Take the trapper’s experiese trait and chuck it at your target. That works well enough.
They way I see this is it would create more co-ordination and timing. Just throwing your trap at the target with no co-ordination with your team is not great for an efficient combo field.

Part of the problem with just throwing traps is that many times I don’t want to get that close, or I can’t because there is stuff in the way. The trap throwing range isn’t that far compared to your range if you are using a bow, especially if you have an increased range longbow.
I guess it could take more coordination and timing, but that seems a bit much just for setting up a combo field. I am condition/trap specc’d so I have the trapper’s expertise trait. But, like Iggy said, the range isn’t all that great. If we’ve got a plenty of DPS near the target, why shouldn’t I just be able to lay down a combo field for the sake of being support if there are multiple people playing a ranged character. Like I say, it’s just a thought. I don’t see how it’d make the mechanics much different and it wouldn’t be OP. If anything I see it being more of a support function.
It just involves more teamwork with a detonation setup.
You wouldn’t just expect people to know that your going to detonate your trap and let them take a hint that its a combo field.
No. You have to communicate and that’s where co-ordination and timing becomes important.

I’ve always want to do that so I could use the combo field with long bow as of right now traps and max out longbow shots at 1500 ft doesnt work well bring in long bow to 600 ft losses are the extra damage you would have gotten from combo .
I like the idea of detonating traps at will. Could work similar to spirits, just click the trap icon again after you placed it to detonate it.
Traps are not mines, so detonating them “remotely” would be really strange IMO. Even the idea of just plain setting them off by your own character stepping on the trigger or whatever would be odd because you’d imagine that whoever triggers it is going to get hurt, as is the nature of a trap.
Would it be useful? Certainly. But it wouldn’t make much sense with them being traps, that you’d be able to trigger them like that. They’re supposed to be traps, not mobile combo field generators.
ElectroEven the idea of just plain setting them off by your own character stepping on the trigger or whatever would be odd because you’d imagine that whoever triggers it is going to get hurt, as is the nature of a trap.
This is a game. Realism would be silly and it’d make the game more difficult than it needs to be.

I have to agree with yumcha. I do see the argument the other person is trying to make but then again, we have to remember this is a fantasy game. If realism were an issue this game would be much much different.
I haven’t played other classes so please excuse me if I’m way off and correct me. But doesn’t the warrior or ele get some kind of combo field that they throw down? I know, they aren’t “traps” but what about that guy that’s using the long bow. You’re telling me he has to run into the battle, lay the trap and then run back to optimal distance in order to just try and set up a combo field? That would be completely inefficient.
You set off a combo field at any distance but long bow doesn’t get maximum damage to your at about 1200 ft. The further you’re in the less damage you will cause . So any extra damage you would have got from the combo field would be lost at 300 -600 ft. Traps on the other hand if you trait them for ground base have a 600 ft or with out any training trap are place at you location. So a long bow trapper doesn’t work if you looking to put out maximum damage and who doesn’t want that.
